NBA's J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award (1988). His jersey number 2 was retired by the Nuggets (1993). Enshrined in the University of South Carolina, the state of South Carolina and the state of Colorado Halls of Fame. Awarded the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award for Citizenship, the most prestigious honor awarded by the University of South Carolina.

Played for the NBA Milwaukee Bucks (1976-1978), NBA Indiana Pacers (1978-1980), NBA Denver Nuggets (1980-1990), NBA Dallas Mavericks (1990-1991) and Italian League Depi Napoli (1991-1992). All-NBA Second Team (1982, 1983, 1986). NBA's leading scorer in the 1980s (19,682 points). First player in NBA history to score 2,000 points in eight straight seasons. Set 31 Denver Nuggets records in 10 seasons, including points scored (21,645), games played (837), assists (3,679), scoring average (25.9 ppg), most points and highest scoring average in a season (2,414, 29.8 ppg in 1985-1986) and minutes played (29,893).

Played for the University of South Carolina (1972-1976). Two-time All-America selection (1976-1976). Ranks first in South Carolina history in scoring (1,972 points, 17.8 ppg) and third in rebounding (1,064, 9.6 rpg). Played the most minutes (4,113) in school history. Holds records for most field goals attempted (1,590) and made (855). Ranks second all-time in blocked shots (230). USC retired his number 22 jersey.

Denver Nuggets franchise all-time leading scorer (21,645 points) and all-time assists leader (3,679).
