‘Oppenheimer’ and ‘The Bear’ Win At Inaugural Prop Masters Guild Awards

The inaugural Prop Masters Guild MacGuffin Awards celebrated the achievements of the artisans who make Hollywood sets come to life or feel lived in.

Prop work on both film and television projects were honored, including “The Bear,” “Oppenheimer” and “Poor Things.”

Emily Ferry was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her over four decades of dedication to her craft. Her work has spanned over 50 productions, including “The Right Stuff,” “Alien: Resurrection,” “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and “Memoirs of a Geisha.”

The Property Masters Guild handed out its inaugural MacGuffin Awards tonight in Los Angeles, celebrating significant artistic achievements of property masters in film and TV. Winners lauded at the Belasco Theater included Best Picture Oscar winner Oppenheimer and nominee Poor Things, along with Emmy winners The Bear and The Last of Us. See the full list below.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One took the Contemporary Feature Film prize, with Oppenheimer and Poor Things winning for Period and Fantasy/Science Fiction, respectively. Other TV honored by Pmg include Lessons in Chemistry, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, That ‘90s Show and the now-wrapped Perry Mason and A Black Lady Sketch Show.

Pmg’s Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Emily Ferry. A legend in the craft, she was the first female property master in film and television — a pioneer in breaking institutional barriers and paving the way for future generations.

Jamie Lee Curtis will be awarded with an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts by the American Film Institute at the AFI Conservatory’s commencement ceremony Aug. 10 at the Tcl Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

Curtis, who won an Oscar in 2023 for her role in “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” has appeared in plenty of films over her career, including 1978’s “Halloween,” 2018’s “Halloween,” “Freaky Friday,” “My Girl,” “Knives Out” and many more. Her television credits also include “The Bear,” “Scream Queens,” “Anything But Love” and more.

Rian Johnson Receives Visionary Director at Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards

It’s rare for sequels to make a big splash on the awards circuit; only two have ever won best picture — “The Godfather: Part II” and “Lord of the Rings: Return of the King.” But director Rian Johnson’s star-studded feature “Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” is proving to be an exception, with the filmmaker taking home the Visionary Award for his work on the upcoming whodunnit movie at this year’s 12th annual Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards.

Viola Davis and Rian Johnson are among those being honored at the 12th annual Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards.

The awards will be held on Nov. 5 at Avalon Hollywood on Vine and writer, actor and comedian Fortune Feimster will host the ceremony, which pays tribute to the brilliant behind-the-camera talent of the year’s most acclaimed films.

Honorees and presenters are selected from films released during the year and/or that qualified and presented at the Cannes, Toronto or Venice film festivals.

The Hamilton watches team is finalizing the honorees and presenters program for the upcoming 12th Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards presented by Los Angeles Confidential magazine.

Set for Nov. 5 at the Avalon Hollywood and hosted by comedian Fortune Feimster, the ceremony will honor creatives and talent from such films as The Woman King, The Fabelmans, Top Gun: Maverick, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, She Said and Women Talking, among others.

Making Jurassic World Feel Like A Real Theme Park Was A Huge Challenge For The Props Department

"Jurassic Park" is all about illusion. The original film used a mix of groundbreaking CGI and animatronics to create the most realistic dinosaurs ever seen before in a movie. Despite John Hammond (Richard Attenborough) arguing otherwise, the dinosaurs themselves are as much an illusion in the text of the story: man-made facsimiles of creatures long ago vanished from the Earth.

2015's "Jurassic World" had a whole new issue when it came to selling this fantasy. The premise of "Jurassic World" is that the park is open to the public as a SeaWorld-esque tourist destination. According to the film's prop master Guillaume Delouche, the biggest challenge he and his team faced was convincingly portraying Jurassic World as a real-life theme park.
