Began making documentary films in 1987.

An Irish film director and screenwriter living in Dublin.

Connolly made his feature film directorial debut with Flick in 2000. He shot the film in 18 days with no budget.

In 2005, he received two Irish Film and Television Awards nominations for Trouble with Sex. The film was premiered at the Dublin International Film Festival in February 2005.

In 2012 Connolly made Eliot & Me, a children's adventure drama, featuring his daughter, Ella Connolly. The movie had its world premiere as the opening film at the Zlin International Film Festival for Children and Youth in May 2012.

When we made Flick we thought "oh yeah a movie about drugs everybody will be interested in that" but drug movies don't really sell. There's ferocious competition, Irish films are competing with the best of the rest of the world, not Hollywood because we don't really compete with them, it's a choice between the next Wong Kar-Wai movie or an Irish movie. Everyone is pitted against each other. The American's dominate but the machine is just so vast now.
