‘Spitting Image’ Renewed For A Second Season By BritBox
Image
BritBox’s reboot of British satirical puppet show Spitting Image has been renewed for a second season just days after it premiered the first episode of Season 1 online.

The Avalon-produced caricature comedy will be back in fall 2021 after BritBox said its first series premiere helped boost new subscribers ten-fold compared to its average daily sign-up rate.

Reemah Sakaan, group director of ITV SVOD and chief creative and brand officer of BritBox, said: “The fantastic response to Spitting Image just goes to show how much the world needs public service satire. Not only can subscribers look forward to another 9 weeks of anarchy but also now another series in 2021.”

The renewal comes just hours after executive producer Jon Thoday revealed that NBC backed out as Spitting Image’s U.S. broadcast partner just weeks before the premiere. The Avalon founder said there was “too much nervousness” about its satirical content among NBC executives.

Royal Jewelers Refuse to Make Replicas of Meghan Markle’s Engagement Ring Despite Requests
Princess Diana
There is no point dropping royal hints at your significant other.

The jeweler who created the engagement ring Prince Harry used to propose to Meghan Markle is refusing to make replicas of it despite being inundated with requests.

Stephen Connelly, the director of Cleave and Company told the Associated Press that the attention on Meghan’s ring was “a bit of a shock.”

“We’re not going to be making replicas of it,” Connelly said. “If you want a ring, then we’ll design you a different one.”

Meghan’s engagement ring is a three diamond stunner with sentimental value to Harry.

Will Mellor on Broadchurch series 2 absence: "It's a shame"
Will Mellor has admitted that he was disappointed not to be involved in the second series of Broadchurch.

Mellor told Digital Spy that it was "a shame" his character did not return for the second series, but added that his commitment to Channel 4's new police drama No Offence might have ruled out a reappearance in any case.

"It was one of them things - I didn't know whether I was going to be doing it or not, and neither did [the writers] - they didn't know whether my character was coming back for this one or not," he explained.

"I obviously wanted to do it again, because it was such a massive success, but I got offered a series - No Offence - which was one of the lead parts.

"If [my character] was [in it again], it would've been a very small bit, so I had to take the other job. I was in Manchester for five months,...

Broadchurch series 2: 20 burning questions we have about episode 1
It was worth the wait, wasn't it? After nearly two years of speculation, a month of mysterious adverts on loop on ITV and CIA-esque level of secrecy surrounding the plot, Broadchurch series 2 finally arrived last night.

As writer Chris Chibnall promised, this wasn't simply another murder mystery whodunnit in the same town. In fact, it's quite the contrary - it's a can-you-prove-he-did-it.

Oh and that little case in Sandbrook that tormented Di Alec Hardy in series one. Yes, that reared up again.

At the end of the opening hour, we were left with questions piled on top of questions, and with a week to wait before we get episode two, here are the 20 most burning matters that we'll be mulling over until next Monday.

1. Why did Joe plead 'not guilty'?

"The evidence against you is clear."

"Not just me. Everyone... Nobody's innocent, Paul. Everyone's hiding things."

The exchanges between Joe Miller and Rev.

Broadchurch series 2 spoilers: Absolutely everything we know so far
1. When is it back?

Detectives Alec Hardy (David Tennant) and Ellie Miller (Olivia Colman) will return to ITV in January 2015.

We don't know the exact date, but if we were taking a punt it would be in the second week of the year. And ITV would have to be daft not to put it on Monday nights again - it was the perfect start to the week.

2. Who is returning?

Despite Hardy's funny turns and dicky heart, David Tennant is definitely back. Despite finding out that her husband was a child murderer, Olivia Colman's slug-stomper Miller will also return.

Perhaps more surprisingly, Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan are also involved in series 2. The duo played Beth and Mark Latimer, the parents of victim Danny in series one and their reappearance suggests that the second series may in some way be connected to the first - rather than a second,...

Mat Baynton and Jim Howick on Yonderland, Horrible Histories & more...
Interview Sarah Dobbs 8 Nov 2013 - 07:05

In the last of this week's chats with the cast and creators of Yonderland, here's Mat Baynton and Jim Howick...

The last interview of the day was with Horrible Histories and Yonderland stars Mat Baynton and Jim Howick. It’s gone lunchtime, and they come in full of apologies for their mouthfuls of crisps. As the journalists around the table introduce themselves and their publications, Baynton and Howick join in, introducing themselves as “one of the actors”, in a way that’s sort of adorable. (Yeah, there’s no “sort of” about it, really.)

Once everyone’s settled, we kick off with, um, a question about the bark. It’s the day’s hot topic, it really is so overwhelming…

Has it all come flooding back when you smelled the bark here today?

Jim Howick: Yeah, it did. Filming was a six week block,...

'Broadchurch' series two to be prequel?
Broadchurch star Will Mellor has told Digital Spy that series two could be a prequel and probably won't focus on another murder mystery.

The actor, who plays Steve Connelly on the ITV drama, said that writer Chris Chibnall is "keeping his cards close to his chest" about where the series will go - and hasn't even told the cast if they'll be back.

Speaking to DS at the Infiniti Gate Experience last night (July 11), Mellor said: "We're all waiting to find out... nobody knows who's in it yet.

"The writer's keeping his cards close to his chest as he did first time. I was with him the other night and I bought him a few drinks, so hopefully that'll work in my favour."

Confirming his intention to return, Mellor continued: "I'd love to be in Broadchurch series two. The first was a massive success and the character's so different, a...

Digital Spy readers believe that Joe Miller (Matthew Gravelle) is the Broadchurch killer.

'Broadchurch' poll: Who killed Danny Latimer? - vote now
With just one episode left until Broadchurch draws to a close, we're mere days away from finally finding out who killed young Danny Latimer - and this is your final chance to finger the chief suspect and spout your theories.

Our poll lists ten of the most likely suspects - vote below or if you've got your eye on an outsider, name Danny's murderer in the comments below.

Is creepy Nige (Joe Sims) - shopped to the cops by his own mother in the last episode - your bet? Or are you plumping for the bookies' favourite, Ellie Miller's husband Joe (Matthew Gravelle)?

Ellie's son Tom Miller (Adam Wilson) also seemed to have it out for Danny, but surely he's not the killer? Perhaps the boy's mentor - the Reverend Paul Coates (Arthur Darvill) - isn't as mild-mannered as he seems...

Could Broadchurch pull the mother of all twists and...

13 answers we need to identify the Broadchurch killer
Feature Louisa Mellor 15 Apr 2013 - 07:00

With two episodes to go, we round-up the remaining question marks in the Broadchurch case. Speculation ahoy...

Spoiler warning: as ITV has kept episodes seven and eight of Broadchurch under wraps, the below contains no actual spoilers, just plenty of speculation on how the ending might unfurl.

At 10pm this evening, we’ll be one hour closer to finding out who killed Danny Latimer. Like those of Nanna Birk Larsen and Laura Palmer before her, young Danny’s murder has preoccupied the minds of a healthy chunk of TV viewers for the past six weeks, keeping us guessing, theorising, and mumbling about poor Vince the Labrador in our sleep.

With just two episodes of the Scandi-inflected small town murder remaining then, let’s put our heads together on the vital answers needed to deduce the identity of Broadchurch’s killer…

Before we start, it...

'Broadchurch' episode six blog: Who killed Danny Latimer?
With the investigation into Danny Latimer's death rumbling on, Hardy and Miller's troubled investigation caught a few breaks this week on Broadchurch - with two suspects looming particularly large - but Alec's deteriorating health may have also seen the killer slip through the police's collective fingers...

Digital Spy has picked apart episode six to see if there were any hidden clues.

Clues and Suspects

Jack Marshall's death has seen Hardy (David Tennant) labelled the Worst Cop in Britain - it's not an entirely undeserved moniker given that he's yet to press Mark Latimer (Andrew Buchan) on the gaps in his alibi or noted young Tom Miller's (Adam Wilson) shifty behaviour...

With little progress made in catching Danny's killer, the coppers are threatened with cutbacks and their one remaining lead seems to be a burnt-out boat found floating in the ocean - one of many clues pointing to a new chief suspect.

Friday Noir: ‘Backfire’ is a well acted, poignant and fun little gem
Backfire

Directed by Vincent Sherman

Written by Larry Marcus, Ben Roberts and Ivan Goff

U.S.A., 1950

Reviewing movies with the benefit of hindsight offers ample opportunity to discover, analyze and extrapolate the several issues of the day their stories were concerned with. It puts such films into historical context, awarding them a sense of worth perhaps movie goers at the time overlooked. Film Noir is frequently cited as being specific in relating to the American post-Second World War experience, a time during which the innocence of a large and powerful country was shaken, the disillusionment created by mankind’s unhinged ferocious nature exposed during combat having deeply affected returning veterans. People fell on hard times, forced to strive to earn a living all the while reckoning with the truth of human nature. Backfire, from director Vincent Sherman, exposes the down and dirty side of people’s desperation through the...
