- She changed her birth surname from Caplan to Catz as there was already an actress with that name. She came up with the last name after seeing a doodle of a cat but ironically she is extremely allergic to cats.

In 1999-2003, she was PC Cheryl Hutchins in The Vice (1999) for the entire 5 seasons. In 2004-2005, she was DI Kate Ashurst in Kate & Emma - Indagini per due (2004) for the short series run of 2 seasons. In 2016, Caroline is playing DI Helen Morton in DCI Banks (2010) having joined the cast in 2012.
- She has a son Sonny-Joe Caplan-Higgs (born 2001) and a daughter Honor-Ray Caplan-Higgs (born 2006), with actor husband Michael Higgs. They met on the set of the TV programme Metropolitan Police (1984).
