On January 23, 1996 at the WCW Clash of the Champions, Konnan defeated Psicosis, this was the first time Lucha Libra got national exposure to an American Audience. WCW was impressed with the Lucha style and signed the two wrestlers as well as several others.

Debuted in wrestling after being trained by Rey Mysterio Sr. His early matches with Rey Mysterio set new attendance records at the Arena Mexico.

He has wrestled in all of the "Big Three" American wrestling promotions of the 1990s, ECW in 1995 and late 2000, WCW from 1996-2000, and WWE 2005-.
