X-Men: All 7 Gambit actors ranked from worst to best
Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, and Hugh Jackman in X-Men (2000)
There have been some notable actors to play Gambit in X-Men media but how do they rank?

When Gambit debuted in the comics in 1990, he stood out nicely. The Cajun thief had a sneaky side and a mysterious past, but captivated readers with his slick accent, style, and mutant power to charge objects (usually playing cards) with kinetic energy to explode. Remy Labeau was soon a mainstay of the comics.

The character rose to prominence with the 1990s X-Men animated series. Over the years, there were plans to integrate him into the X-Men movies that never came about. He finally got there with a couple of live-action appearances and many more in animation and video games.

There have been seven official actors to play Gambit in X-Men media, with each bringing their own style and abilities to the role. Here’s how they rank to show who brought this raging...

X-Men voice actor George Buza on why his version of Beast endures
Image
It’s a great time to be an X-Men fan — the comics behemoth has seen a resurgence in public consciousness thanks to the revival of the much-loved X-Men: The Animated Series. Ever since its announcement, X-Men ’97 has gathered fans, old and new, and the voice cast has played a pivotal role in winning the fans over once again.

Veteran actor George Buza, the voice of Hank McCoy/Beast, was at Toronto Comicon sharing in the love of the show and the X-Men universe. Buza definitely knows how to work a crowd of X-Men fans as he greeted his audience with “Hello, fellow mutants”, before asking us who thought Magneto was right. Quite a few cheers went up for that. As we wait for season 2 of X-Men '97 to finally arrive, let's take a look at Buza's experiences on the show and with the character of Beast.

X-men '97: Marvel's Brad Winderbaum Confirms That Season 2 Won't Arrive Until 2026
Image
Late last year, a rumor did the rounds that the highly-anticipated second season of X-Men '97 wouldn't premiere until 2026, and the lengthy wait has now been confirmed by Marvel's Brad Winderbaum.

"Season 2 of X-Men ‘97 is going to be in ‘26. We're working on it now," Winderbaum tells Collider. "It's exciting. That world of the ‘90s is just… Honestly, I can't believe they let me make it. I grew up at Marvel, as you know, clocked a lot of time here, and I feel like I used a lot of currency to revive this thing that I loved watching after school. So, the fact that we get to play in that universe with those actors is honestly why I went into this business in the first place."

When asked if we could expect more animated shows - and possibly a feature - to be announced soon, Winderbaum played it a little closer to the vest.

MCU Series 'X-Men '97' Will Not Release on Disney+ Until 2026
Image
It seems that fans of X-Men '97 now know when they will see the animated Marvel show return, but it is not going to be as soon as expected. While many fans believed that the new season would roll out this year, Marvel Studios exec Brad Winderbaum revealed in an interview with Collider that Season 2 will not hit Disney+ until 2026. He said:

"Season 2 of X-Men ‘97 is going to be in ‘26. We're working on it now. It's exciting. That world of the ‘90s is just… Honestly, Steve, I can't believe they let me make it. I grew up at Marvel, as you know, clocked a lot of time here, and I feel like I used a lot of currency to revive this thing that I loved watching after school. Sadie Sink Reportedly Wanted to Play Jean Grey in McU's X-Men Group
Image
The hunt is on for a new wave of actors to play the X-Men in the MCU, and although there certainly seems to be potential plans to have both new and old stars of the franchise involved in the cataclysmic Avengers: Secret Wars, a new name has been thrown into the mix about one of the new faces reportedly being considered for the role of Jean Grey. Previously played by Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner, according to a report from Jeff Sneider, Stranger Things breakout Sadie Sink could be the next in line to play the incredibly powerful character.

Naturally, this kind of rumor should be handled as some kind of wayward multiverse variant of the truth until it is confirmed or denied by Marvel Studios. It is likely to be one of many such rumors to come in the near future as the MCU gears up to welcome the...

Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool (2016)
Marvel has officially confirmed beloved show won't return in 2025
Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool (2016)
There are a lot of Marvel Studios projects to look forward to in 2025. That's certainly a good thing, because as great as the offerings from the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been this year, there haven't been that many of them. We had Echo at the beginning of the year on Disney Plus, Deadpool and Wolverine released in theaters this summer, and Agatha All Along closed things out with a spookily sensational run on Disney Plus that had the world guessing the whole way throughout.

The third and final season of What If...? is set to premiere this holiday season, and separate animated series X-Men '97 enjoyed a critically-acclaimed run earlier this year. It's been a good year for Marvel, but there were also a number of titles that were supposed to release this year that didn't due to delays.

Many of them will be coming out next year instead, as...

The X-Men's Civil War for Charles Xavier's dream
Image
For the mutants in the Marvel Universe, the “X” once represented hope and unity. Two lines, crossing together. Inspired by the dream of Charles Xavier of mutantkind and mankind coexisting, the X-Men reinforced this, incorporating the letter into their name as if to say “We will protect the futures of man and mutant alike, no compromise.”

It was a hopeful dream, born of good and evil ideas that represented parallels to our world, such as the fight for civil rights. This was no more apparent than how Xavier and rival Magneto compared to real-life civil rights leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr and Malcolm X.

But this is a different time. This is a different era.

A divided future for the X-Men

Following the end of the Krakoa era of X-Men comics, this "Raid on Graymalkin" storyline within the “From the Ashes” crossover splits the team based on...

Marvel's Kevin Feige Had Two Conditions To Greenlight X-Men '97
Image
There was so much to love about the '90s "X-Men" animated series that creating a revival show in 2024 seemed like a risky maneuver. But Disney's legacy sequel series, "X-Men '97," debuted to great reviews, providing '90s kids everywhere with a straight shot of animated nostalgia. Of course, the 2024 version of the show was a lot cleaner than the Og series, which originally ran from 1992 to 1997 on Fox Kids. "X-Men" debuted during a time when hand-drawn animation done under a tight budget and often shipped overseas for coloring gave all our favorite cartoons a charmingly janky aesthetic. That same feel was missing from the revival show, but that was really the only thing that felt different.

To make sure this particular nostalgia-fest hit properly, Disney and Marvel ensured they did everything they could to make "X-Men '97" feel as close to the original series as possible. The show was...

X-Men '97 Creator Addresses Black Panther Controversy Despite NDA Claim - "Humanity Before Continuity"
Image
4 months after confirming an NDA prevented him speaking up, X-Men '97 creator Beau De Mayo has finally addressed why the critically acclaimed Marvel show used King T'Chaka instead of T'Challa. The decision was met with confusion and some criticism from Marvel fans who believed Chadwick Boseman's legacy should have been honored more directly.

De Mayo has now taken to X.com to defend the decision to use T'Chaka rather than his son, after an X-Men '97 fan asked him for the thinking behind it: he responded "I don't know why Marvel had certain directors trying to spin and lie about this but we produced X-Men 97 Season 1 in early 2021. The loss of Boseman weighed heavily on the studio, as well as on me as a black man. Felt too soon to do T'Challa. Put humanity before continuity."

X-Men 97 Showrunner Beau DeMayo Slams Marvel & Disney for Egregious Prejudicial Misconduct
Image
X-Men '97 showrunner Beau DeMayo has leveled some major accusations against Marvel Studios and Disney during his time on the animated revival as well as his unrealized Blade project. DeMayo was publicly fired by Marvel Studios two weeks before X-Men '97 aired, revealing later that it was due to his "egregious behavior." The revelation came following DeMayo's statement on social media that he was fired and removed from the show's upcoming Season 2 for posting LGBTQ+-themed fan art. DeMayo previously said this was part of Disney's tactic to discredit him and would come out with his side of the story. DeMayo recently told fans that he would reveal secrets about what happened on his OnlyFans, and Variety has reported on some of the highlights from what DeMayo had to say:

These allegations of egregious misconduct are false. They are offensive but more concerning is that theyre a smear campaign designed...

Beau DeMayo Will Reveal The "Whole Truth" Of His X-men '97 Firing... If You Subscribe To His OnlyFans Page
Image
Back in March, the surprising news broke that Marvel Studios/Disney had fired X-Men '97 showrunner Beau DeMayo shortly before the animated revival show's world premiere.

Since then, the internet has been rife with rumors and speculation about what might have led to DeMayo's dismissal, and last month, Marvel finally released a statement on the matter.

"Mr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation. Given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately and he has no further affiliation with Marvel."

Though no specific details were revealed, we have since heard that DeMayo was terminated for sending lewd photos to members of his staff, and there have been further reports of him being physically and sexually inappropriate with several of his colleagues.

DeMayo has denied this, suggesting that his firing was simply due to homophobia, and claiming that he was stripped of his X-Men '97...

Marvel Reveals 'Egregious' Reason X-Men '97 Creator Beau DeMayo Was Fired, Showrunner Fires Back
Image
Five months after Marvel Studios suddenly fired X-Men '97 showrunner Beau DeMayo, revelations behind the scenes are finally coming out. On Thursday, DeMayo posted on his X a screenshot of a piece of art as himself as a shirtless, speedos-sporting Cyclops. DeMayo said he posted it for Pride Month back in June, and the following day, June 13th, Marvel sent him a letter saying he would be stripped of his credit on X-Men '97 Season 2. He then claimed this was part of a troubling pattern he encountered working at Marvel on X-Men '97 and Blade.

A few hours later, Marvel Studios released an official statement to The Hollywood Reporter regarding DeMayo's firing. Marvel said DeMayo was fired from X-Men '97 and Blade due to an internal investigation that was said to be of an "egregious" nature. While no details of the cause of the termination or the internal reviews have surfaced yet,...

Disney has now overtaken Hollywood in much the same way the iconic movie monster The Blob takes over its victims, with the House of Mouse growing ever larger and more powerful as it absorbs everything in its path. One such property that has been assimilated into the Disney bubble is Marvel Studios, and now, a hugely talented artist has imagined what The X-Men might look like should they ever get the true Disney treatment.

Sporting the kind of big eyes and wry smiles that we are so used to seeing on the faces of Disney princesses and princes, artist @MarkBrooksArt has given the familiar style to a whole host of Marvel mutants. With incredible results. You can check out the Disney/X-Men artwork below.

They have even depicted several fan-favorite characters individually, including the heroes (and antiheroes) Beast, Gambit, Rogue, Wolverine, Deadpool, and Cyclops, and the villains Magneto, Juggernaut,...

While a subsequent TV series failed to take off, Blades arrival in the MCU was originally teased in the post-credits scene of Eternals, with new star Mahershala Alis voice being heard in the movie. Beau DeMayo was fired as X-Men '97 showrunner back in March prior to the show's world premiere, but he had already completed work on the scripts for the second season of the acclaimed animated revival series.

X-Men 97 Creator Defends the Changes to Morph, Slams the Critics: 'Offensive & Straight-Washing'
Image
The changes made to Morph's character in X-Men '97 are intentional and important for representation, says creator Beau DeMayo. Showrunner DeMayo defends the romantic implications between Morph and Wolverine, calling any denial "offensive." Larry Houston sees Morph's shapeshifting ability as equivalent to being nonbinary, addressing backlash faced by the show.

Beau DeMayo, the showrunner for the first season of the Marvel animated series X-Men 97, has responded to the depiction of the character Morph and the implied feelings they have towards fellow X-Man, Wolverine. The sequel series made several changes to Morph compared to the original 90s run, making the character nonbinary and changing them from a thin-faced, dark-haired man into a character with light gray skin, a bald head, white eyes, and no nose. Taking to social media, DeMayo defended this latest iteration, calling any denial regarding their sexuality offensive and straight-washing.

X-men... 2000? The Mutant Heroes Could Be Brought Into A New Decade For X-men '97 Season 2
Image
X-Men... 2000?

Although the recent Disney+ show served as a revival of an animated series that aired 25 years ago, the decision was made to keep the action rooted firmly in the original era. But with season 2 already confirmed and reports that Marvel Studios fully intends to keep the show going for as long as possible, could the mutant heroes make the jump into the noughties?

During an interview with Discussing Film, supervising director Jake Castorena was asked if they intend to hold on to the '90s aesthetic, and if he anticipates the show taking influence from later comic book runs for the second season.

"We touched on that, even in season one with E is for Extinction, which was definitely not of the ’90s run per se but in the zeitgeist of the era that came a little later," he replied. "Once so much time passes, that’s pretty much...

X-men '97: Beau DeMayo Explains How Man Of Steel Inspired Standout Rogue Scene From Recent Season Finale
Image
Despite being fired as X-Men '97 showrunner (the details are still sketchy) shortly before the series premiered on Disney+, Beau DeMayo has remained active on social media, sharing intriguing insights into the development of the animated revival show and revealing some of his key influences.

DeMayo has previously explained how the iconic "Superman takes flight" sequence from Zack Snyder's Man of Steel inspired a similar moment from episode 6 featuring Storm regaining her powers, and has now revealed that a different scene may have "subconsciously influenced" Rogue attacking the villainous Bastion in the recent season finale.

This was yet another standout moment for Rogue, who unleashed the full extent of her power while channelling the pain and rage she felt after losing Gambit in the Genosha massacre

I was likely subconsciously influenced by this when writing the #xmen97 finale beat of Rogue punching Bastion. That’s not Superman hammering Zod.

X-Men '97 Sets Amazing New Record for Marvel Studios at Rotten Tomatoes
Image
X-Men '97 was able to maintain its quality from the beginning to the end of its first season. Following the Season 1 finale, the series still holds a near-perfect score at Rotten Tomatoes of a very impressive 99%.

Officially, this makes X-Men '97 serve as the highest-rated Marvel Studios project to be made. It surpasses the previous high that was set by Ms. Marvel, which has a 98% score. X-Men '97 is also sitting with a higher approval rating than the McU's highest-rated movie, Black Panther, which is at 96%. By overcoming these records, the first season of X-Men '97 is officially the best-reviewed Marvel Studios project.

X-men '97 Is Now The Highest-Rated MCU Project Ever On Rotten Tomatoes As Finale Scores 3.5M Views
Image
X-Men '97 was a big hit with critics right from the start, but the Disney+ revival series has now become the highest-rated Marvel Studios project - live-action or animated, big or small screen - in the 16-year history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

With more reviews now counted for last Wednesday's season finale, X-Men '97 has reached a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. This takes it past Marvel's previous top-rated Disney+ show, Ms. Marvel (98%), and movie, Black Panther (96%), to become the most positively-reviewed MCU project of all time on the popular aggregator site.

The series wasn't only a critical favourite, as Deadline reports that May 15th's cameo-filled finale, "Tolerance is Extinction, Part 3," amassed a whopping 3.5 million views globally in its first five days on the streaming platform, making it the most-viewed full-length animated series finale since Season 1 of What If…?.

‘X-Men ’97’ Races To Finish Line With Strong Finale Audience
Image
Exclusive: The finale of X-Men ’97 has set a promising track record for Disney+.

The episode, which debuted on May 15, saw 3.5M views globally in its first five days on the streaming platform. That makes it the most-viewed full-length animation series finale since Season 1 of What If…?, the Walt Disney Company says.

According to Disney, viewership had been growing consistently over the four episodes leading to the finale.

X-Men ’97 premiered in March with 4M views collectively across the first two episodes in their first five days on the platform.

The exact breakdown of viewership for each episode is unclear, but regardless it does indicate a strong, growing interest for the animated series, since the finale alone was nearly able to match the audience of the first two episodes in the same time frame.

As an added bonus, Disney also says that viewership for the original 1992 X-Men animated series has doubled since X-Men ’97 premiered.

X-men '97 Showrunner Shares Star Trek-Related Hint About Next Week's Season Finale - Spoilers
Image
After an exciting, often shocking run of episodes, the season 1 finale of X-Men '97 hits Disney+ next Wednesday, and (former) showrunner Beau DeMayo has shared some "homework" for fans who might want a cryptic hint about what to expect from "Tolerance is Extinction - Part 3."

Spoilers for last week's episode and (potentially) Wednesday's instalment follow.

DeMayo posted an image from Star Trek: The Next Generation season 5, episode 18, "Cause and Effect." This episode of the beloved sci-fi series saw the crew of the Enterprise caught in a time-loop, with the ship being destroyed over and over again, and Picard, Riker, Data and co. having to figure out how to reset the anomaly.

Does this suggest that the X-Men will find themselves in a similar situation? "Tolerance is Extinction - Part 2" certainly left the team in dire straits, with Jean Grey killed(?) by a Mr. Sinister-controlled Cable, and Wolverine's Adamantium...

X-men '97: The Heroes Suit-Up In New Costumes In Clip From This Week's Penultimate Season 1 Episode
Image
There's only two more episodes of X-Men '97 to go, and Marvel Studios has released a clip from tomorrow's penultimate season 1 chapter, "Tolerance is Extinction - Part 2."

The preview finds our mutant heroes suiting-up in new costumes for their impending battle with Bastion and his forces.

The outfits are a mixture of the team's classic looks, and the costumes they wore in the pages of The Uncanny X-Men. The clip also sees Jubilee burn Roberto DaCosta's business card, so Sunspot must have decided not to join the fight.

Former showrunner Beau DeMayo hinted at the costume change when he shared the unused pilot for Pryde of the X-Men earlier today.

DeMayo was also asked if he's ever heard any talk of adding Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat to the X-Men '97 roster.

"I haven’t, but my suspicion is Jubilee and Kitty slightly compete in terms of their age and Pov on the team.

X-men '97: Beau DeMayo Shares "Homework Assignment" For Next Week's Penultimate Episode - Spoilers
Image
"Magneto was right..."

Former X-Men '97 showrunner Beau DeMayo has taken to social media to share a "homework assignment" for fans that may want a better idea of what to expect from the middle chapter in the three-part season finale, which airs on Disney+ next Wednesday.

DeMayo posted the cover to 1993's Uncanny X-Men #304, which marked the 30th anniversary celebration of the iconic mutant heroes, and the third chapter in the "Fatal Attractions" storyline.

Spoilers for Tolerance is Extinction - Part 1 and (possibly) Part 2 follow.

Though a few significant events occur in this issue that could inform the episode, we'd say it will most likely draw influence from Magneto's arc. Towards the end of Tolerance is Extinction - Part 1, Dr. Valerie Cooper frees Magnus from Bastion's prison, and the Master of Magnetism flies to one of the northern magnetic pole to manipulate Earth's magnetic field, using his powers to wipe...

X-Men '97 Creator's New MCU Multiverse Comments Change How You'll View Loki's Ending
Image
X-Men '97 exists within its own Marvel universe, separate from the larger MCU multiverse. X-Men '97 creator Beau DeMayo suggested that the series exists within a neighboring tree in the multiverse. Leaves from one tree can mingle with another, creating interesting connections.

X-Men '97 creator Beau DeMayo shared comments on where his show takes place in the greater MCU multiverse, and it raises interesting questions about Loki's ending. X-Men '97 exists within its own Marvel universe, as seen in episode 8, which included cameos from many Marvel heroes and villains. However, many have questioned whether it exists within the larger Marvel multiverse, which includes other universes like Sony's Spider-Man Universe and Fox's X-Men Universe.

At the end of Loki season 2, Loki pulls all the separate universes together, creating a tree that links them all under one branching multiverse. On X, DeMayo was asked if X-Men '97 exists in this tree.
