Judd Apatow & Ben Stiller Celebrate 30th Anniversary Of ‘Heavyweights’: “I Don’t Think This Will Be At The Head Of The Disney+ Queue Ever”
Image
Judd Apatow and Ben Stiller are celebrating the 30th anniversary of Heavyweights, a Disney film released in 1995.

The comedy, directed by Steven Brill, who co-wrote it with Apatow, was released on February 17, 1995, which 2025 is 30 years since it premiered.

“Somehow I don’t think this will be at the head of the Disney+ queue ever,” Stiller posted on X, the microblogging platform formerly known as Twitter. “In fact I’m not sure they are aware they made it. But that was an incredibly fun summer in North Carolina 30 years ago.”

Heavyweights revolve around a weight loss camp for boys and the campers working to overthrow the fitness entrepreneur. Stiller had dual roles in the film and co-starred with Tom McGowan, Aaron Schwartz, Shaun Weiss, Tom Hodges, Leah Lail, Paul Feig, Kenan Thompson, David Bowe, Max Goldblatt, Robert Zalkind, Patrick Labrecque, Jeffrey Tambor, Jerry Stiller, Anne Meara, and many more.

“Weird Al” Yankovic’s cult classic comedy Uhf has been released on a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in celebration of its 35th anniversary.

Made from a new 4K scan of the original 35mm camera negative, the Blu-ray also features previously released audio commentary from Yankovic and director Jay Levey, as well as deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes footage, and a 2014 retrospective panel held at San Diego Comic-Con. Yankovic co-wrote Uhf with Levey and starred as George Newman, a daydreamer who unexpectedly becomes the manager of a small TV station called Channel 62, which is struggling to stay afloat. After taking over, he creates new shows like Stanley Spadowski’s Clubhouse, Wheel of Fish, and Raul’s Wild Kingdom in a bid to keep it alive while coming up against rival station owner R.J. Uhf: Michael Richards nearly played his role with a case of Bell’s palsy
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jerry Seinfeld, Jason Alexander, and Michael Richards in Seinfeld (1989)
The same year he was cast to play the iconic character Kramer on the sitcom Seinfeld, Michael Richards could also be seen on the big screen in the comedy Uhf – which was a financial disappointment at the time of its release in the summer of 1989, but has gone on to gather a huge cult following over the years. Musician “Weird Al” Yankovic plays the lead role of George Newman, who is put in charge of the Uhf television channel Channel 62, with Richards in the supporting role of janitor-turned-host Stanley Spadowski… and for a while, it looked like Richards would be playing Stanley while dealing with a case of Bell’s palsy.

As Richards writes in his memoir Entrances and Exits, “Before the Seinfeld pilot, I star in three pilots: Herndon (1983), Help (1984), and Slickers (1985). All three are offered to me. The second pilot, Help, is retooled and called Marblehead Manor, and...

Weird Al's Uhf Celebrates 30th Anniversary with New Fright-Rags Collection
Plenty of movies are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Ghostbusters II and Tim Burton's Batman were some of the biggest releases in summer 1989. But one movie would change comedy forever. Okay, it wouldn't really. But at the time, Weird Al Yankovic fans were extremely excited to see the King of Parody make his first foray into feature films with Uhf. Though a major bomb for Orion Pictures at the time, the comedy has gone onto to reach cult status.

Making a long-lasting career out of spoofing the biggest song hits of the day, Weird Al Yankovic decided to turn his attention to 80s movies, giving us a hybrid parody movie in the style of Airplane and Naked Gun that was contained within its own unique and original story. After losing yet another job, George, played by 'Weird Al' Yankovic himself in his...

Episode Recap: Castle - 2.01: "Deep in Death"
Castle (Nathan Fillion) is on a photoshoot at the police department with some chicks dressed in uniforms. Why the police station? Just cos it's about Niki Heat and Beckett (Stana Katic) has to give an interview to Amy (Elizabeth Ho), 'Cosmo', as she calls her the inspiration behind Castle's new book. Castle claims to have offered them insight on the profession and solved some of their toughest cases. Well that's true as seen from my season 1 reviews. She tells the Captain (Reuben Santiago-Hudson) she wants him gone and calls them 'bachelor party strippers.' Captain agrees Castle has helped on cases and the mayor wants him here, also it's hard to get good press for the department. Esposito (Jon Huertas) asks why Beckett doesn't wear a uniform like that. Er she's not a uniformed cop anymore ha. Beckett is still angry Castle delved into her mother's death...

This week's new films
Armadillo (15)

(Janus Metz, 2010, Den) 105 mins

After last year's Restrepo, another fine documentary from the Afghanistan front line, bringing us closer than we'd like to a war we'd rather not think about. Again we track a tour of duty with its mix of boredom, adrenaline and futility, but the key differences here are that they're Danish soldiers (who seem a lot less uptight about access) and the camerawork is better than in most fictional war movies. As a result, we're brought right into the soldiers' lives, and pitched into the heart of battle when things really heat up.

Cold Fish (18)

(Sion Sono, 2010, Jap) Makoto Ashikawa, Denden, Mitsuru Fukikoshi. 146 mins

Not your average serial killer, this one's sociable, presentable and a big fish in the fishkeeping world – even if there's a grisly explanation for his success. As we follow a meek colleague drawn into his demented orbit, proceedings get uglier and messier,...

Bloody Corpses appear in New 'Rubber' Poster Illustration
by Seth Metoyer, MoreHorror.com

I still don't know quite how I feel about Quentin Dupieux's horror/comedy film 'Rubber'. Yes, it's about a killer tire. I haven't seen it yet, so the jury is still out. Though from the trailer (below), it looks to be pretty bitchin'.

I am certainly feeling a tingling sense of hope as I view the new poster for the flick. Bloody Corpses? Hell yeah. You can't go wrong with an illustration that features carnage like that. You can see it below.

The movie is available via some VOD cable carriers and will be released in select theaters on br April 1st. Go 'Rubber' go!

The film stars Thomas F. Duffy, Hayley Homes, Wings Hauser, Tara Jean O'Brien, Haley Ramm, David Bowe, Ethan Cohn, Pete Dicecco and Remy Thorne.

Rubber Review: When I Was Seventeen, It Was a Very Goodyear
When you sit down to watch a movie about a homicidal telekinetic tire, you've made a certain decision about life and your filmwatching experience. If you expect realism, developed characters, a serious study in mise-en-scene, well, then you've clearly got a warped sense of reality and belong in retail hell, either folding ironic overpriced T-shirts or brewing overpriced beverages that have gone beyond the realm of coffee into some sort of hyper-milkshake. It's a movie. About a fucking tire. That kills people. With it's mind. But fortunately, writer-director Quentin Dupieux knows that. So what he's created with Rubber is such a meta experience that Charlie Kaufman would have to go into Doctor Who's head to find Sam Beckett and ask him to lead him into the dream snow fortress in the middle of Philip Seymour Hoffman's head when he was pretending to be John Malkovich. It's not just a film about a killer tire,...

"Arthur" Trailer | The First Trailer in the History of the World that Not Even "Under Pressure" Could Save
If you had any expectations for Russell Brand's remake of Arthur, please, sir, check them at the door and ask the coat lady to throw them in a pile with all your hopes and dreams and light a match. This is the power of Russell Brand: He can dull even the presence of Helen Mirren and Jennifer Garner in lingerie. How do you ruin Jennifer Garner in lingerie? Worse, for the first time that I can ever recall, it made me immune to Queen and David Bowe's "Under Pressure."

Seriously, if you can't even make your trailer funny (save for the Darth Vader gag), give it up. Just give it up.

Here, allow me to make it up to you. Here's Jennifer Garner in lingerie the way she's meant to be seen: On the brink of kicking someone's ass.

Rubber: Previews new poster!
A new poster is out for the epic movie about a tire titled Rubber. Rubber is a french film that was written and directed by musician Mr. Oizo (Quentin Dupieux) and stars Stephen Spinella, Wings Hauser, Jack Plotnick, and David Bowe. Rubber is an interesting flick, and I first heard about it when I was handed a handful of colorful condoms by a gleeful representative at the Magnolia Pictures booth at New York Comic Con. Each individually wrapped condom had the word Rubber stamped on them underneath the picture of a tire. After readin up on the flick I found the promo items most appropriate. The new poster with its use of reds and blacks, combined with an all seeing eye, follows the unusual theme quite nicely. Synopsis: Rubber is the story of Robert, an inanimate tire that has been abandoned in the desert, and suddenly and inexplicably comes to...

AFTRA elects board members
AFTRA announced the results late Wednesday of its Los Angeles Local elections. The seats in play included those on the national and local boards, and delegates to the AFTRA national convention this summer.

This election cycle carried extra weight because it arrived in the midst of voting on SAG's controversial TV-theatrical contract and because of the candidacy of several dual card-holders running for office despite their antagonism toward AFTRA.

As it happens, Membership First partisans did pick up some local and national board seats -- vocal AFTRA critics Anne-Marie Johnson and Alan Ruck were elected to the AFTRA national board, and David Jolliffe was elected to the L.A. Local board.

The complete results are as follows:

Actor Ron Morgan was re-elected president of AFTRA Los Angeles and will begin his new two-year term July 1; he ran unopposed. Morgan also was elected to the national board for a four-year term,...

SAG Stalemate Update
The Screen Actors Guild stalemate grinds on. Variety says there are back-channel talks with studio heads, but it’s hard to know whether talks are actually in progress or, if any, how substantive they are. These rumors have persisted off and on for almost two months at least.

Causing the stalemate is the issue of contract expiration date rather than new media; there’s talk of a trade-off between this issue and the (unrelated) SAG demand for force majeure payments per the previous SAG agreement. Meanwhile, the passage of time itself threatens to generate new roadblocks.

The SAG Board is meeting this weekend, and Variety suggests a proposed TV/theatrical deal might be presented to the Board then. I’m skeptical, but you never know. The SAG story has had a surprise around every corner, although for the last year, stalemate has unfortunately been the one constant.

What is known...

Candidates unveiled for L.A. AFTRA election
Susan Boyd
The Los Angeles Local of AFTRA announced Thursday the complete list of candidates for its 2009 election of officers and board members, Los Angeles-based national board members and 198 delegates to the AFTRA national convention.

Ballots will be mailed May 8 with a voting deadline of June 3. All elected Los Angeles officers and board members will begin their terms July 1. National board members begin their four-year terms at the end of this summer's national convention, scheduled for Aug. 6-8 in Chicago.

Candidates will have the opportunity to address the membership at the annual "Meet the Candidates" forum the night of April 29 at the union's headquarters. Most of the acting candidates are dual cardholders in AFTRA and SAG.

All seven incumbent L.A. officers were named candidates for re-election by the AFTRA L.A. nominating committee. They will run unopposed for additional two-year terms. They are:

L.A. president Ron Morgan
