As well as being a hugely popular actor, he also enjoyed pop success. He became a father for the first time at the age of 32 when his wife Rachel Robertson gave birth to their son Louis Valentine Berry in April 1995. He became a father for the second time at the age of 35 when she gave birth to their son Finley Frederick Berry in June 1998.

He started his own production company "Valentine Productions".

In 1986, he named Clark Gable as his favourite actor and Vivien Leigh as his favourite actress.
