- In 1968, at age 17, Angeles' selection as the American Legion National Oratorical Champion led to his being the youngest person to address the National Republican Convention (August 5, 1968). He was introduced by Republican Representative Daniel E. Button (1917-2009). Angeles and Button both died in 2009.
