When Saturday Night Live celebrated its half-centennial back in February, series creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels was hoping to see one of his oldest friends and original cast members — and, no, it wasn’t Chevy Chase.
This year’s SNL50 anniversary special was, simultaneously, a celebration of SNL’s near-mythical history and a demonstration of the cultural cachet that the series still wields a half-century into its run. So many of the biggest stars in the history of North American comedy, from Steve Martin to Eddie Murphy to Adam Sandler, stopped by SNL50 to perform their part in the family reunion special and to tearfully reminisce on old times with old colleagues.

Without a doubt there are people who would pay serious money to see Jeffrey Katzenberg hanging out and trudging through the sand and dirt at Burning Man.
However, beyond the juxtaposition of the seemingly buttoned down ex-DreamWorks chief and the annual Mad Max-ish desert festival, Katzenberg himself is hoping there are millions who will pay to see drone-fueled storytelling light up the skies over deserts and stadiums around the world with Nova Sky Stories.
“Dodger Stadium is the end goal,” Katzenberg told Deadline in a joint inteview with Nova founder Kimbal Musk company. “We’re not going to get there in a heartbeat, if we haven’t built the brand,” the WndrCo founder explains of the high-tech wares and big dreams of the Tesla board member’s “spectacular technology platform.”

Thirty years after it originally debuted, the monumental Beatles documentary series Anthology is getting a new release on streaming via Disney+. In addition to the original eight episodes of the 1995 doc — with Peter Jackson's Wingnut Films working on the restoration — a new ninth installment has been produced, chronicling Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr around the making of Anthology.
The series was a massive hit upon initial release, earning three Emmy nominations in 1996 and winning the Grammy for Best Music Video, Long Form in 1997.
The Beatles Anthology will be available to watch on Disney+ starting Nov. 26.
But the multimedia rerelease doesn't stop there, as Anthology encompassed audio and print version as well.

All together now: the Beatles’ classic Anthology documentary is finally getting a long-awaited new edition. The new Anthology is restored, remastered, and expanded—the full story of the Beatles, in the words of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr themselves. The original eight-episode series was a worldwide sensation when it premiered on TV in November 1995, as were all three companion albums. The lavish book arrived in 2000. The full Anthology phenomenon — on screen, on record, in print — is the most comprehensive version of the Beatles’ tale ever told.

The Billboard 200 albums chart measures the top releases during the weekly tracking period every Friday through Thursday. While it used to be determined strictly by record sales, the ever-changing landscape of music consumption led Billboard to update its methodology for the 21st century.
In 2014, Billboard started considering multiple metrics of music success, including online streams and individual track sales, in addition to the traditional album sales that previously made up the entirety of the Billboard 200's chart determinations. An album sale currently counts as one album unit. Sales of 10 individual tracks also counts as one unit. But an artist needs 3,750 ad-supported streams or 1,250 paid subscription streams to equal one unit. Then in 2020 Billboard began counting music videos on platforms like YouTube.
The Beatles hold the record for the most No. 1 albums with 19; they also have the most No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 with 20. But Beatles alumnus Paul McCartney has...

Sixty years ago today, on Aug. 15, 1965, the Beatles played Shea Stadium in New York, and the world has never recovered. It was the biggest pop explosion the world had ever seen, with 56,000 kids screaming for John, Paul, George, and Ringo. It’s the most famous show they ever played — the most famous pop concert ever — even though nobody could hear a note of it. Other gigs have drawn far bigger crowds, made far more money. But Shea is still the ultimate image of fan hysteria — a massive swarm of Beatlemaniacs...

If you've been paying attention to Taylor Swift's career highs over the last few years — and it's hard not to, honestly — you're probably wondering if there's anything the singer-songwriter can't do. In 2024, Swift became the first artist in Grammys history to win the night's biggest prize, album of the year, a whopping four times. In December of that same year, she wrapped up her Eras Tour, which spanned the globe, five continents, and 149 completely sold-out shows ... and when I say "completely sold out," I mean thousands of fans who couldn't get tickets swarmed stadiums and sat on hills near venues just to overhear the three and a half hour experience.
Swift is one of the best-selling artists of all time and has been called a generationally talented songwriter by luminaries like Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks, and Carole King. One thing she couldn't do, though? Audition for Tom Hooper's 2012 musical "Les Misérables.

Among Paul McCartney’s high-profile musical collaborations in the 1980s, “Ebony and Ivory” is considered by many the worst. But its three minutes and 45 seconds pale in comparison to the excruciating 86 it takes to watch Jim Hosking’s 2025 film of the same name.
From the writer-director of the cult horror film “The Greasy Strangler,” “Ebony and Ivory” parodies the events that led to the legendary 1982 team-up between McCartney and Stevie Wonder. Yet even by the loose standards of cultural satire or even looser, of outsider art, this two-hander about McCartney and Wonder butting heads in a cabin on the Mull of Kintyre ahead of recording the chart-topping song is brutally unwatchable, an Adult Swim short film stretched, either via desperation or willful obliviousness, to feature length.

I just watched an animated movie called Boys Go to Jupiter that was so weird and eccentric, I’m not sure I was in the right headspace to truly appreciate the experience until days later. Then came Ebony and Ivory, a film that might as well have “Nothing can prepare you” as its tagline, because I walked out of the screening asking myself, “What did we just watch?”
No, Ebony and Ivory is not a Hunter S. Thompson fever dream; it is a new film from writer/director Jim Hosking that cannot be labeled or quantified. Sure, “gonzo” seems like an appropriate term. Unhinged may be another. Though I am starting to think batsh*t crazy is more like it.

A show about Elvis as a secret agent from "Archer" writer Mike Arnold and singer-screenwriter John Eddie sounds wild enough to become a hit — or, at the least, a cult favorite. Sadly, "Agent Elvis" wasn't given long enough to become either, as Netflix canceled the zany enterprise after its first season. That is, the streamer axed the animated series several months after season 1 was made available, which might seem odd, but 2023 was a tumultuous year that claimed many a show too soon.
The cancellation of "Agent Elvis" was perhaps one of the biggest disappointments, if only because the show had so much promise and hype prior to its debut. The series' trailer promised an outlandish romp featuring Matthew McConaughey as a secret agent version of The King, while early footage from "Agent Elvis" similarly teased a stylish animated show that /Film's Rafael Motamayor described as "striking," noting that "Elvis has never looked better.

Spinal Tap have re-recorded their classic song “Stonehenge” with the legendary Elton John for the upcoming sequel Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, as well as an accompanying companion album, titled The End Continues. Both the film and the album will arrive on September 12th.
“Stonehenge” was one of the highlights in the original 1984 movie, This Is Spinal Tap, as made famous in the hilarious scene in which the band plays onstage alongside an 18-inch Stonehenge prop instead of an 18-foot one.
The music video (and likely full scene from the sequel) shows Spinal Tap finally playing in front of that 18-foot Stonehenge they originally desired, as they are joined by Elton on piano and vocals.
The album The End Continues will also feature guest spots from Paul McCartney on “Cups and Cakes,” and married couple Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood on “Big Bottom,” as well as a second appearance...

It turns out that the real problem with Spinal Tap’s “Stonehenge” wasn’t just that tiny onstage prop — the song was also missing some assistance from a living rock monument. A just-released new version of the track, featuring Elton John on vocals, is the first single from the fictional metal gods’ new album,The End Continues. The collection, due Sept. 12, will accompany the long-delayed sequel to 1984’s This Is Spinal Tap, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, which hits theaters the same day.

On July 7, the Beatlesdrummer celebrated his 85th birthday in his Los Angeles home with family and very famous friends such as Joe Walsh from The Eagles,Jackson Browne, Lucius, and, of course, his wife of over 40 years, Bond girl Barbara Bach. They even FaceTimed another Beatles legend, Paul McCartney, who sent his love from a distance. Starr was all smiles as he watched his friends' live performances at the semi-public event, including performances of his Beatles classics, "Yellow Submarine," "Octopus's Garden," and, of course, "With A Little Help From My Friends." But what fans watching (and probably many of the attendees) didn't know is that the Beatle had a secret announcement planned.

Sherwood Schwartz earned his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame by dreaming up two sitcoms that ran forever in syndication, inspiring decades’ worth of spin-offs, reboots and TV movies. But those two mega-successful creations — Gilligan’s Island and Brady Bunch — existed in two separate Nick at Nite universes, never crossing paths into a single sitcom reality.
At least, not until 2007. When the quasi-crossover finally happened, it was thanks to Schwartz’s genius at milking cash out of new iterations of old hits. In addition to Saturday morning cartoons like Gilligan’s Planet, TV movies like The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan’s Island and a reality show called The Real Gilligan’s Island, Schwartz collaborated with his son Lloyd, daughter Hope and son-in-law Laurence Juber (former guitarist with Paul McCartney and Wings!) on the stage show, Gilligan’s Island: The Musical.

That long-dreaded awaited Spinal Tap reunion wouldn’t be happening with the generous funding of C. Montgomery Burns.
As director Rob Reiner tells it, he and his This Is Spinal Tap collaborators Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer had long ago abandoned the idea of making a sequel to their seminal 1984 mockumentary. But thanks to a series of fortunate events — including the deep pockets of one of the stars — the quartet is back with Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.
Speaking at Collider’s Directors on Directing panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, Reiner explained why it took four decades for the “Stonehenge” purveyors to dial it back up to 11 one more time.

Heavy metal legends Spinal Tap are officially returning with Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, the highly anticipated sequel to Rob Reiner’s '80s mockumentary about the fictional rock band whose members constantly disagree with each other. Mockumentary sequel Spinal Tap II: The End Continues is out in September, and the full trailer has emerged as a reminder.
Update 25th July 2025: Belated mockumentary sequel Spinal Tap II: The End Continues now – finally – has a full trailer. Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer are back in their wigs (now greyer) as the hapless veteran rock band, now reuniting for one last gig.
Just as importantly, director Rob Reiner is also back in front of the camera as documentarian Marty Dibergi, who catches up with the ageing rockers as they stumble back out of obscurity in an age of social media and branded merchandise.
Few are likely to expect The End Continues to reach the classic heights of the 1984 original, but that’s partly because so few comedies have. Here’s hoping it’s a fitting send-off for the writers of such rock standards as Stone Henge,...

After more than 40 years of clamoring, fans have finally gotten a glimpse at the return of some mock rock legends in the trailer for “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.”
The trailer for the “This Is Spinal Tap” sequel features the reunion of the iconic band from Rob Reiner’s 1984 directorial debut. Reiner returns to direct, write and star in the long-awaited sequel to his original music mockumentary. Joining him as actors and writers are Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer — all of whom starred in and co-wrote the original film.
In the new trailer, Reiner returns as Martin “Marty” Di Bergi, a fictional documentarian who “directed” the original documentary about the band Spinal Tap’s 1982 tour for their album “Smell the Glove.” Since the events of the first movie, the members have all gone their separate ways. They’re back! The first official trailer for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues has dropped, and we see the lads from the legendary British rock band reunite for one last gig.
In the clip, we see filmmaker Marty Dibergi catch people up with what’s happened to Spinal Tap since his first film, This Is Spinal Tap. We then see the central Tap trio of Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest), David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean) and Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer) all looking their age and leading rather sedentary lives, in stark comparison to their past lives as stadium rock gods. The trailer then shows us efforts by the band to reunite for one last hurrah, including their efforts to recruit a drummer suicidal enough to play the gig, their merchandising efforts and whether one (or two) of them dying on stage would help boost publicity for the gig and cement their legacy.

Like a big bottom, Spinal Tap has dropped at the San Diego Comic Con. With that – as promised – comes the first trailer for their much-anticipated return: Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.

All the way back in 1984, the world was introduced to the rock sensation known as Spinal Tap. As fictional documentarian Marty Di Bergi, real-life filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner toured around the country with the fake British rock band comprised of David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel, and Derek Smalls, as well as a revolving door of drummers who kept encountering unfortunate circumstances, forcing them to leave the band. Sure, this is a mockumentary, but as one of the first films of its kind, the comedy managed to trick a lot of people into thinking that Spinal Tap was a real band.
Followed by Marty and his guerrilla film crew, Spinal Tap quickly discovered the challenges of being aging rockers in the modern world, dealt with stuffy record executives, and endured sparsely attended promotional events. They even lost Nigel Tufnel from the band for a short while.

Ozzy Osbourne was the trailblazing frontman of Black Sabbath, who pioneered the heavy metal genre. Unfortunately, the artist has passed away at the age of 76, just weeks after his last concert in Birmingham (via BBC). Following the emotional farewell, fans are asking if Osbourne is the next in line for an insightful documentary.
With HBO’s Billy Joel: And So It Goes setting the bar for rockumentaries, it seems like there’s a renewed push to give the Prince of Darkness a tribute he deserves. Osbourne’s documentary should match the precedent set by Joel’s, and with the project already underway, everyone’s hoping for the best.
