When Saturday Night Live celebrated its half-centennial back in February, series creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels was hoping to see one of his oldest friends and original cast members — and, no, it wasn’t Chevy Chase.

This year’s SNL50 anniversary special was, simultaneously, a celebration of SNL’s near-mythical history and a demonstration of the cultural cachet that the series still wields a half-century into its run. So many of the biggest stars in the history of North American comedy, from Steve Martin to Eddie Murphy to Adam Sandler, stopped by SNL50 to perform their part in the family reunion special and to tearfully reminisce on old times with old colleagues.

Without a doubt there are people who would pay serious money to see Jeffrey Katzenberg hanging out and trudging through the sand and dirt at Burning Man.

However, beyond the juxtaposition of the seemingly buttoned down ex-DreamWorks chief and the annual Mad Max-ish desert festival, Katzenberg himself is hoping there are millions who will pay to see drone-fueled storytelling light up the skies over deserts and stadiums around the world with Nova Sky Stories.

“Dodger Stadium is the end goal,” Katzenberg told Deadline in a joint inteview with Nova founder Kimbal Musk company. “We’re not going to get there in a heartbeat, if we haven’t built the brand,” the WndrCo founder explains of the high-tech wares and big dreams of the Tesla board member’s “spectacular technology platform.”

Thirty years after it originally debuted, the monumental Beatles documentary series Anthology is getting a new release on streaming via Disney+. In addition to the original eight episodes of the 1995 doc — with Peter Jackson's Wingnut Films working on the restoration — a new ninth installment has been produced, chronicling Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr around the making of Anthology.

The series was a massive hit upon initial release, earning three Emmy nominations in 1996 and winning the Grammy for Best Music Video, Long Form in 1997.

The Beatles Anthology will be available to watch on Disney+ starting Nov. 26.

But the multimedia rerelease doesn't stop there, as Anthology encompassed audio and print version as well.

In honor of its 30th anniversary this year, a remastered version of “The Beatles Anthology,” the landmark docuseries about the seminal band’s career, is set to premiere on Disney+ in November with an entire episode’s worth of new, previously unreleased footage.

Featuring retrospective, in-person interviews with band members Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, “The Beatles Anthology” was originally broadcast in November 1995. Expanded versions of the docuseries were subsequently released in home video formats like VHS and LaserDisc in the following years.

Now, the documentary is set to arrive on Disney+ on Nov. 26.

The new Anthology is restored, remastered, and expanded—the full story of the Beatles, in the words of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr themselves. The original eight-episode series was a worldwide sensation when it premiered on TV in November 1995, as were all three companion albums. The lavish book arrived in 2000. The full Anthology phenomenon — on screen, on record, in print — is the most comprehensive version of the Beatles’ tale ever told.

I just watched an animated movie called Boys Go to Jupiter that was so weird and eccentric, I’m not sure I was in the right headspace to truly appreciate the experience until days later. Then came Ebony and Ivory, a film that might as well have “Nothing can prepare you” as its tagline, because I walked out of the screening asking myself, “What did we just watch?”

No, Ebony and Ivory is not a Hunter S. Thompson fever dream; it is a new film from writer/director Jim Hosking that cannot be labeled or quantified. Sure, “gonzo” seems like an appropriate term. Unhinged may be another. Though I am starting to think batsh*t crazy is more like it.

As the gentlemen of Spinal Tap surely know, it can take a while to find your back to the stage. In the case of their long-awaited sequel, it's been more than 40 years since Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, and Harry Shearer starred as "one of England's loudest bands."

Heavy metal legends Spinal Tap have teamed up with Elton John for a re-recording of the band’s classic cut “Stonehenge,” released on Thursday via Interscope Records.

The band also released a music video for the single, confirming the song will appear on The End Continues, the forthcoming album for the mockumentary Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, out on Sept. 12 to coincide with the movie’s theatrical run.

Spinal Tap have re-recorded their classic song “Stonehenge” with the legendary Elton John for the upcoming sequel Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, as well as an accompanying companion album, titled The End Continues. Both the film and the album will arrive on September 12th.

“Stonehenge” was one of the highlights in the original 1984 movie, This Is Spinal Tap, as made famous in the hilarious scene in which the band plays onstage alongside an 18-inch Stonehenge prop instead of an 18-foot one.

The music video (and likely full scene from the sequel) shows Spinal Tap finally playing in front of that 18-foot Stonehenge they originally desired, as they are joined by Elton on piano and vocals.

The album The End Continues will also feature guest spots from Paul McCartney on “Cups and Cakes,” and married couple Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood on “Big Bottom,” as well as a second appearance...

The trailer for the “This Is Spinal Tap” sequel features the reunion of the iconic band from Rob Reiner’s 1984 directorial debut. Reiner returns to direct, write and star in the long-awaited sequel to his original music mockumentary. Joining him as actors and writers are Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer — all of whom starred in and co-wrote the original film.

They’re back! The first official trailer for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues has dropped, and we see the lads from the legendary British rock band reunite for one last gig.

In the clip, we see filmmaker Marty Dibergi catch people up with what’s happened to Spinal Tap since his first film, This Is Spinal Tap. We then see the central Tap trio of Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest), David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean) and Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer) all looking their age and leading rather sedentary lives, in stark comparison to their past lives as stadium rock gods. The trailer then shows us efforts by the band to reunite for one last hurrah, including their efforts to recruit a drummer suicidal enough to play the gig, their merchandising efforts and whether one (or two) of them dying on stage would help boost publicity for the gig and cement their legacy.

“Nigel, David and Derek haven’t seen the film,” Rob Reiner said Thursday before unveiling the first trailer for his mockumentary sequel Spinal Tap II: The End Continues during Collider’s Directors on Director panel at Comic-Con.

Spinal Tap II has Christopher Guest (Nigel Tufnel), Michael McKean (David St. Hubbins) and Harry Shearer (Derek Smalls) back as legendary heavy metal band Spinal Tap. The film follows England’s loudest and most punctual band as they reunite after a 15-year hiatus for one final concert. Spinal Tap II reunites Nigel Tufnel, David St Hubbins and Derek Smalls as they get together for a final concert, more than 40 years after the 1984 mockumentary that made their name. In between, Spinal Tap released the album Break Like the Wind in 1992, appeared on The Simpsons, played the Live Earth charity concert in 2007 and Glastonbury in 2009.

Like a big bottom, Spinal Tap has dropped at the San Diego Comic Con. With that – as promised – comes the first trailer for their much-anticipated return: Spinal Tap II: The End Continues.

The preview for Spinal Tap II: The End Continues opens up with highlights from the Rob Reiner’s 1984 film before Reiner himself — as documentarian Marty Di Bergi — reveals the purpose of the 40-years-later documentary: To celebrate Spinal Tap’s legacy by bringing together Michael McKean’s David St. Hubbins, Christopher Guest’s Nigel Tufnel, and Harry Shearer’s Derek Smalls (and whatever fearless drummer they can recruit) for a final gig in New Orleans.

All the way back in 1984, the world was introduced to the rock sensation known as Spinal Tap. As fictional documentarian Marty Di Bergi, real-life filmmaker and actor Rob Reiner toured around the country with the fake British rock band comprised of David St. Hubbins, Nigel Tufnel, and Derek Smalls, as well as a revolving door of drummers who kept encountering unfortunate circumstances, forcing them to leave the band. Sure, this is a mockumentary, but as one of the first films of its kind, the comedy managed to trick a lot of people into thinking that Spinal Tap was a real band.

Followed by Marty and his guerrilla film crew, Spinal Tap quickly discovered the challenges of being aging rockers in the modern world, dealt with stuffy record executives, and endured sparsely attended promotional events. They even lost Nigel Tufnel from the band for a short while.

Sir Paul McCartney has announced a 2025 North American tour, marking his first run of shows across the US and Canada in three years (get tickets here).

The 20-date outing officially kicks off on September 29th with McCartney’s first-ever concert in Palm Desert, California. From there, he’ll play gigs in cities including Las Vegas, Denver, Minneapolis, New Orleans, Atlanta, Nashville, Columbus, Buffalo, and Montreal, before wrapping up the trek with two nights at Chicago’s United Center on November 24th and 25th. Along with making his live debut in Palm Desert, the itinerary also sees McCartney playing his first-ever concert in Albuquerque, New Mexico on October 7th. Update: McCartney has added an October 25th concert in San Antonio.
