I Know What You Did Last Summer Worldwide Box Office: Budget & Roi Update ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

I Know What You Did Last Summer is lost amid big studio films. But the film managed to break even and is now earning solid profits. This has been possible because of the film’s modest budget. If we compare the budget and returns, it is a blockbuster. The reboot movie is the second-highest film in the franchise worldwide. Keep scrolling for the deets.

The reboot is widely regarded as a mixed bag. It is a visually engaging, nostalgia-laden horror movie that leans into its classic roots, but it stumbles when it tries to become more than just a fun slasher ride. ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Approaching $60 Million at the Worldwide Box Office
Image
Director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s slasher legacy sequel I Know What You Did Last Summer is still in the top 10 at the domestic box office in its third week of release, with the film slashing into another couple million dollars this past weekend. At this time, the film’s domestic total is now $29.2 million, with the current worldwide total sitting at $58,668,554.

With I Know What You Did Last Summer likely to slice and dice $60 million when all is said and done, Sony’s sequel is officially profitable given the film’s low $18 million budget. Very few horror movies have been able to pass $60 million so far this year, with only The Monkey, 28 Years Later, Final Destination Bloodlines, and Sinners hitting that high mark.

At the same time, this will end up being the lowest grossing theatrical release for the franchise to date. Unadjusted for inflation, the original I Know What You Did Last Summer...

911's Jennifer Love Hewitt Wants To Crossover With ABC's Hit Detective Show With 96% Rt Score
Image
If 9-1-1 star Jennifer Love Hewitt had to have a crossover with another show, it would be one of ABC's latest hit. The procedural drama isn't new to crossovers. Characters from 9-1-1 joined the 9-1-1: Lone Star squad for an episode when it was still on Fox, and Angela Bassett's Athena Grant-Nash guest-starred in one episode of Doctor Odyssey.

Hewitt evidently wants to keep the ball rolling and have more crossovers in 9-1-1 season 9. During an interview with Awards Buzz, Hewitt gushed over her love for ABC's hit police procedural TV series High Potential, and revealed that it was her dream to have her character, Maddie Han, share the screen with Kaitlin Olson's Morgan Gillory. Hewitt explained:

"I am obsessed with the show High Potential. And she's [Kaitlin Olson's Morgan] always referencing — they're in LA — and she's always referencing dispatch. And I'm like, 'She has got to come to the dispatch center,...

Jennifer Love Hewitt Wants Kaitlin Olson ‘9-1-1’ & ‘High Potential’ Crossover

Jennifer Love Hewitt has the perfect idea for 9-1-1‘s latest crossover event. “I am obsessed with the show High Potential,” she shared in a recent interview with Awards Buzz. “And she’s [Kaitlin Olson‘s Morgan] always referencing — they’re in L.A. — and she’s always referencing dispatch. And I’m like, ‘She has got to come to the dispatch center, or I have to go to her. Or, I feel like we could do both.” Hewitt suggested that “one of their episodes could end with her coming to my dispatch center, and then I could enter her[s] next episode,” adding, “But I just need to work with that show. I just wanna be on that show. And I think it would be so fun. Wouldn’t that be cool?” High Potential, which premiered on ABC in September 2024, follows Morgan, a single mom with a high Iq...

Cult Classic Slasher Movie Loses Streaming Home After Legacy Sequel Underwhelms in Theaters
Image
As its sequel scares up decent but underwhelming box office returns, I Know What You Did Last Summerwon't be online for the whole summer. The cult classic slasher movie is set to leave Netflix imminently.

Per Collider, I Know What You Did Last Summer will leave Netflix on Aug. 1, becoming one of several feature-length titles to depart from the streaming giant that day. The film hit Netflix on New Year's Day (Jan. 1) and found success on the streamer, including when the sequel hit theaters earlier this month.

Starring Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe, I Know What You Did Last Summer was penned by Scream creator Kevin Williamson and helmed by eventual Venom director Jim Gillespie. The film kicked off a longstanding franchise based on Lois Duncan's titular 1973 novel.

Jennifer Love Hewitt Pitches ‘9-1-1’, ‘High Potential’ Crossover: “I Am Obsessed”
Image
With It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia recently concluding its Abbott Elementary crossover event, Kaitlin Olson could have the opportunity to infuse two more TV shows.

Ahead of 9-1-1‘s Season 9 premiere on Oct. 9, Jennifer Love Hewitt pitched a crossover event for Ryan Murphy‘s flagship ABC series and Olson’s Hulu procedural High Potential, which was renewed for its sophomore season in January.

“I am obsessed with the show High Potential,” she told Awards Buzz. “They’re in L.A., and she’s always referencing dispatch. And I’m like, ‘She has got to come to the dispatch center, or I have to go to hers.’ Or I feel like we could do both, like one of their episodes could end with her coming to my dispatch center, and then I could enter her next episode. Say Goodbye to This Beloved '90s Horror Hit Before It Leaves Streaming
Image
What are you waiting for, huh? If you're planning to watch the original I Know What You Did Last Summer on Netflix, you'd better hurry. The 1997 horror hit is leaving the streamer at the end of the month. You have until July 31 to hook this one on the streamer before it moves to different waters.

Part of the post-Scream slasher revival of the late 1990s, I Know What You Did Last Summer was an adaptation of the 1973 novel of the same name by Lois Duncan; Duncan would go on to decry the film's gore and violence. It was adapted by Scream scribe Kevin Williamson, and directed by Jim Gillespie (D-Tox). Critics were considerably less impressed with the film than they were with Scream, handing it a 47% Rotten score on Rotten Tomatoes. Nevertheless, the film proved that audiences were still hungry for horror, and grossed $125 million Usd at the box office on a paltry $17 million budget,...

ABC Shifts October Premiere for ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ ‘9-1-1’ Shows by a Week
Image
ABC is moving up the premiere dates of its Thursday primetime dramas by one week. The network announced Tuesday that “9-1-1,” new series “9-1-1: Nashville” and “Grey’s Anatomy” will now premiere Thursday, Oct. 9.

ABC did not reveal a reason behind the schedule change, though premiere date shifts are not uncommon on broadcast television. The change also moves the dramas’ debut closer to the rest of ABC’s lineup, which kicks off its fall premieres on Sept. 16 with the returns of “Dancing With the Stars” and “High Potential.”

It’s unclear how many episodes “9-1-1: Nashville” will have for its inaugural season, though “9-1-1” and “Grey’s Anatomy” have both stuck with 18-episode orders.

“9-1-1” kicks off the Thursday night lineup, returning for Season 9 at 8 p.m.. The new episodes mark the first season without series star Peter Krause, with Captain Bobby Nash killed off in a late Season 8 episode this past spring.

Why Jennifer Love Hewitt's Kate Callahan Left Criminal Minds
Image
"Life had other plans" is a line that applies very often in television regarding why actors choose to leave a successful and popular show on their own accord. Sometimes you have no choice if the creatives decide to go in another direction story-wise and have your character written out permanently, while other times the mistreatment from crew and cast members force you to get out there as fast as possible — like in the case of Afton Williamson whose treatment was as gross and infuriating as it gets when she was on ABC's police procedural, "The Rookie."

Luckily, Jennifer Love Hewitt's exit from the long-running and beloved crime drama, "Criminal Minds," after one season was as sweet and amicable as possible. The "I Know What You Did Last Summer" actress played Katherine "Kate" Callahan, an experienced FBI agent, who joined the Behavioural Analyst Unit (Bau) in the show's tenth season and appeared for 23 episodes.

Fans will have to wait longer for 911 season 9 than anticipated
Image
911 fans finally have something to look forward to! Just as the series has gone into production for season 9, we got word on when to expect new episodes. However, it’s going to be a longer wait than normal for the ABC series.

Instead of a regular September air date, the series will return in October, meaning we will have to wait a few more weeks to see our favorite firefighters. However, with the series now back in production, we will likely get some fun teasers as we wait to see what happens next for the 118.

Going into season 9, 911 will see some changes in the cast. Peter Krause, who played Captain Bobby Nash, exited the series at the end of season 8. Bobby died after a lab explosion left him exposed to Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever. It will be strange for fans to watch the show without Bobby after eight seasons.

Does Denny Wilson Die In 9-1-1?
Image
"9-1-1" might not be the best Ryan Murphy show, but it certainly developed a formula for procedural drama success by following first responders in both their professional and personal lives. Created by Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear, the show focuses on several firefighters, police officers, and paramedics in Los Angeles, all of whom have to face some truly harrowing experiences in their various lines of duty. But they also struggle with their personal problems, and throughout eight seasons of the hit series (which aired on Fox for its first six seasons before moving to ABC), we've seen plenty of personal drama play out. Sometimes, though, the personal and professional collide in "9-1-1," such as when Aisha Hinds' firefighter and paramedic Henrietta "Hen" Wilson turns up to the scene of a car accident and finds her own adopted son, Denny Wilson (Declan Pratt), pinned between a crashed vehicle and a wall.

Stars: Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell, Freddie Prinze Jr., Jennifer Love Hewitt | Written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, Sam Lansky | Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson

In the era of legacy sequels, it was only a matter of time before 1997’s I Know What You Did Last Summer was also revived for the modern-day. From the title to the threatening image of a hook, it is an iconic slice of ’90s horror which helped revitalise the slasher subgenre and is remembered fondly as part of many viewers’ nostalgia. But, to borrow a line from returning final-girl Julie James, “Nostalgia is overrated,” as we are now left with 2025’s I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Returning to her hometown of Southport, Ava Brucks (Chase Sui Wonders) reunites with her past friends at the engagement party for her bestie, Danica Richards (Madelyn Cline). As the...

The summer of horror continued this month with the return of I Know What You Did Last Summer. After a 27-year theatrical hiatus, Julie James (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and Ray Bronson (Freddy Prinze Jr.) are once again being stalked by the dreaded Fisherman Killer. While the reviews for this fourth installment weren't the best and the box office hasn't been glowing, slasher fans can already pre-order the legacy sequel’s killer 4K steelbook.

The upcoming 4K/Blu-ray/Digital combo-pack steelbook will feature Madelyn Cline’s Danica Richards listening to her meditations while in the bathtub with her blood-red bath bomb on the front cover. This is just like one of the kill sequences in the film. The back cover features an image of the Fisherman Killer’s deadly hook, while the inside art has a photo of the new ensemble cast next to the message “You're Next”. This 9-1-1 Star Has An Incredible Idea For A Horror Movie-Inspired Season 9 Episode
Image
9-1-1 could be getting a scary twist in season 9, thanks to a new idea from a cast member. 9-1-1 season 8 ended with big changes for the characters, including a shocking wedding and life-threatening emergencies. The drama continues to mix intense rescues with personal drama, and keeps fans on the edge of their seats as 9-1-1 's cast of characters navigate both disaster scenes and their own lives.

9-1-1 star Jennifer Love Hewitt recently appeared on the “I’ve Never Said This Before With Tommy Didario” podcast (via Apple), where she shared, “What if I get a call at the 9-1-1 call center from a girl being chased by a fisherman? Wouldn’t that be fun?” She was, of course, referencing her character, Julie James, from the I Know What You Did Last Summer series. "I'm putting it out there," she joked.

'9-1-1' Star Spills the Beans on a Major Season 9 Update

Chimney is getting back to work today in a sneak peek shared byKenneth Choi of his return to the set of 9-1-1 for the show’s ninth season. ‘9-1-1’: Jennifer Love Hewitt Pitches an ‘Ikwydls’-Inspired Storyline for Season 9
Image
9-1-1 Season 9 is officially in production, and Jennifer Love Hewitt has the perfect idea for a spooky — and meta — storyline. “What if I get a call at the 9-1-1 call center from a girl being chased by a fisherman? Wouldn’t that be fun?” she shared on the Tuesday, July 22, episode of the I’ve Never Said This Before With Tommy Didario podcast, referring to her iconic role as Julie James in the I Know What You Did Last Summer films. “It would be playful and it would be fun, like, in a Halloween episode. I’m putting it out there. I think that would be really good,” Hewitt continued. “Like, ‘9-1-1, what’s your emergency?’ [She says,] ‘I’m being chased by a guy with a hook!’ [Maddie’s like,] ‘Really? We’ve all seen that movie.’ Like, wouldn’t that be brilliant? And she’s like, ‘No, really!'” Host Tommy Didario...

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ – Helen Shivers and a Truly Iconic Chase Scene in Slasher History
Image
Freddie Prinze Jr. made a bold claim during the premiere of the I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel. On Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Helen Shivers death scene, he gushed: “I genuinely mean this: I think it’s one of the best death scenes in the history of horror films.” While her actual death scene appears mostly offscreen, behind a wall of rubber tires, I would argue that he likely meant her chase scene. It remains the most heart-pounding and all-time best chase scene in slasher history, outpacing the likes of Laurie Strode in Halloween and Sally Hardesty in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

Chase scenes are as old as movies themselves. The first horror movie, 1896’s The Haunted Castle, features rudimentary scares and mechanics that would later become integral pieces to horror movies of the ‘20s, ‘30s, and ‘40s, from Nosferatu to Dracula and Frankenstein. 1942’s Cat People...

Jennifer Love Hewitt Wants A Crossover Between 9-1-1 And Iconic Horror Property
Image
Jennifer Love Hewitt is famously recognized for her roles as Maddie Han (nee Buckley) on the drama9-1-1, and Julie James in the famous slasher flick I Know What You Did Last Summer. Now, she has an idea of how to combine the two.

On the I’ve Never Said This Before podcast, Hewitt shared her crossover pitch. “What if I get a call at the 911 call center from a girl being chased by a fisherman?" she said, per Collider. "Wouldn’t it be fun? It would be playful and it would be fun — like in a Halloween episode. I’m putting it out there! I think that would be really good, like, ‘911, what’s your emergency?’ ‘I’m being chased by a guy with a hook!’ ‘Really? We’ve all seen that movie.’ Wouldn’t that be brilliant?”

9-1-1 has taken on unique ideas, such as a killer bee swarm.

I Know What You Did Last Summer Worldwide Box Office: Earns 39% More Than Its Modest Budget In Just 4 Days, Despite A Slow Start!

I Know What You Did Last Summer Worldwide Box Office: Update After 4 Days ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

I Know What You Did Last Summer had an underwhelming start this weekend, its opening weekend. But it has achieved an interesting feat regarding its return on investment: It has earned more than half of its breakeven number worldwide in just four days. Keep scrolling for the deets.

The film debuted at #3 in the domestic box office chart, and it’s not its fault as Hollywood tentpole releases are hogging all the limelight. It is a reboot of the Og classic, which was released in 1997. The film maintains a stronghold at the 3rd rank and is expected to continue until Thursday. On Friday, The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be released, pushing it further down in the list. The Big 3 – Superman, Jurassic World Rebirth, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps will dominate the box office.

‘9-1-1’ Star, 46, Is Pushing For a Crossover With an Iconic Slasher Franchise
Image
Jennifer Love Hewitt has a brilliant idea, and we’re hoping the 9-1-1 creative team listens to it. On the heels of opening weekend for Jennifer Kaytin Robinson’s I Know What You Did Last Summer, which sees Hewitt reprise the role of Julie James after nearly three decades since originating it, the actress grabbed a seat opposite Tommy Didario on his I’ve Never Said This Before podcast. It was there that she came up with and spitballed her plans for a one-of-a-kind event that would see 9-1-1 pay homage to the iconic slasher franchise.

During the pair’s chat, the star of the beloved ABC procedural was musing about what might happen to her character — 911 dispatcher Maddie Han — in upcoming episodes when she struck gold with a killer idea:

“What if I get a call at the 911 call center from a girl being chased by a fisherman?...

Alison Brie Adorably Freaks Out When Husband Dave Franco Reveals His First Celebrity Crush: ‘This is Bullsh-t’ | Video
Image
Real-life married couple Alison Brie and Dave Franco went on “Hot Ones Versus” to promote their upcoming body horror film, “Together.” On the show, the married pair learned there are some things they still don’t know about each other.

On the “Hot Ones” spin-off, the couple asked each other a series of pre-written questions. If they got one wrong or refused to answer, they had to eat a spicy wing as a penalty. During the second round of questions, Franco asked Brie who his first childhood celebrity crush was.

Brie wasn’t happy with Franco’s response — though not in the way you might think.

“I’m sorry, no!” Brie exclaimed. “Helen Mirren was your first childhood crush? From what?”

“From being gorgeous?” Franco replied.

Franco initially wrote down Jennifer Love Hewitt on his board — an actress only six years his senior, as opposed to Mirren’s 40. Brie insisted this was the true answer.

Jennifer Love Hewitt defends I Know What You Did Last Summer twist (Spoilers)
Jennifer Love Hewitt, Mekhi Phifer, Brandy Norwood, and Freddie Prinze Jr. in Incubo finale (1998)
There’s a new sequel to the 1997 slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer (watch it Here) and its 1998 follow-up I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (watch that one Here) in theatres now (JoBlo’s own Tyler Nichols gave it a 4/10 “dumpster fire” review that can be read at This Link). Jennifer Love Hewitt, who played heroine Julie James in the first two films, and Freddie Prinze Jr., who was Julie’s boyfriend Ray Bronson in those films, reprise their roles – and they’re facing off with a new “Fisherman” killer that’s stalking a whole new cast. The movie features a twist that has been upsetting a lot of fans of the original movies, though, and in an interview with Variety, Hewitt took the opportunity to defend that twist. So we’re going to have to dig into Spoiler territory before we get to her defense.

Ray & Julie's Complicated Relationship Status In I Know What You Did Last Summer Felt Right For 1 Original Star
Image
Even though some fans may be disappointed that Julie and Ray are no longer together in the new I Know What You Did Last Summer movie, Freddie Prinze Jr. agrees that the characters should be divorced. While both Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt appear in the new slasher film, it primarily follows a new group of characters who are hunted by the Fishermen.

Chase Sui Wonders and Madelyn Cline lead the cast of the legacy sequel, which sees history repeat itself as their friend group accidently causes the death of a Southport resident. Even though anticipation was high for the sequel, many fans don't agree with certain story decisions, which has led to plenty of negative reviews for I Know What You Did Last Summer.

One of these controversial story decisions was splitting up Julie and Ray, who were last seen as a happy couple at the end...

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Director Responds to Speculation That Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. Didn’t Shoot Together
Image
The director of the latest I Know What You Did Last Summer movie knows about Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr.’s chemistry in the new film.

Sony’s feature reboot from director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson hit theaters over the weekend, landing in third place at the domestic box office with $12.7 million. Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers and Sarah Pidgeon round out the cast for the latest entry in the slasher franchise that kicked off with the original 1997 film of the same name.

A social media user’s post on Saturday asked fellow fans whether they thought Hewitt and Prinze — who reprise their roles from the original movie and its sequel — “filmed their scenes together” in the 2025 installment. “People are starting to notice the ‘cuts and separate shots,'” the post continued.

Robinson was quick to clear up any confusion surrounding the pair’s scenes.

Now Hewitt is the final girl in I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot. She's one of several returning cast members for the movie, and she's thrilled to be back in the shoes of final girl Julie James. She talked toVarietyall about it as the film releases in cinemas.

"I don’t love to watch horror movies because they really scare me," Hewitt said. Then she went on, "But I do root for horror movies in one very big way: On television and in movies, women have had to fight extra hard to be seen as natural bad-asses; fighters; feral animals with great strength, characters that can be ugly and that...

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Star, 46, Stands By the Sequel’s Jaw-Dropping Twist
Image
Editor's Note: This article contains spoilers for the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot.

The new I Know What You Did Last Summer was as fulfilling of a legacy sequel as they come. It’s difficult to blend legacy with something completely new, but filmmaker Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and her co-scribe, Sam Lansky, did so almost completely seamlessly, delivering a worthy follow-up to the two canon films of the late ‘90s. For years, fans of franchises like Halloween and Scream have been calling for a huge upheaval that would see one of the primary protagonists switch teams and go to bat for the villains. While — so far — other film series haven’t fully gone there, I Know What You Did Last Summer took that leap of faith and turned Freddie Prinze Jr.’s Og character, Ray Bronson, into a rain-slicker-wearing, hook-wielding killer. The creative decision has fans and critics divided,...

Jennifer Love Hewitt’s return to I Know What You Did Last Summer came down to a deep “love” of the horror franchise. The 45-year-old actress is reprising her role as Julie James nearly 30 years after first appearing in the iconic teen slasher, and has now credited the new film’s creative team with bringing the franchise back with a lot of heart. She told Variety of director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and co-writer Sam Lansky: “What was very apparent from the word ‘Go’ is how much both of them loved the original movie.“I feel like, if you’re going to go back and make something new but pay homage to an original, you have to love it. You have to understand it. “So, I was just blown away and it meant a lot to me.”The new instalment, set for release in 2025, follows a fresh group of teenagers in Southport,...

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Slashes into $24 Million Worldwide Opening; But Is That Enough?
Image
After three movies and a one-season television series, I Know What You Did Last Summer returned to the big screen over the weekend for the first time in 27 years, with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. guiding a group of fresh faces through more or less the exact same situation their characters found themselves in back in the 1990s.

How did I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) fare at the box office?

The slasher legacy sequel from Sony scared up an estimated $13 million in 3,206 theaters here in the United States, with the film’s worldwide opening weekend hitting $24.6 million.

How ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’ Reinvented the Original’s Iconic Seaside Town
Image
One of the most memorable aspects of the 1997 “I Know What You Did Last Summer” is its location, a North Carolina fishing town called Southport where the vengeful killer tries to pick off cast members Jennifer Love Hewitt, Freddie Prinze Jr., Ryan Phillippe, and Sarah Michelle Gellar one by one. Vividly conceived by production designer Gary Wissner, Southport provided a unique and richly detailed environment for the original movie’s action, and its spirit remained central to the 1998 sequel “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” even though most of that movie moved the horror to an island in the Bahamas.

For the latest installment in the franchise — also titled “I Know What You Did Last Summer” — co-writer and director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson wanted to pay tribute to Southport’s role in the story while taking it in new directions. “The bedrock to this story is the gentrification of Southport,...

I Know What You Did Last Summer's Box Office Opening Just Killed The Franchise
Image
Another week, another disappointing result for a horror sequel at the 2025 summer box office. Blumhouse and Universal Pictures recently had to suffer the misfire that was "M3GAN 2.0," which isn't going to make a third of what the original "M3GAN" did. But while it's not nearly as bad in the early going for Sony Pictures, the studio's "I Know What You Did Last Summer" legacy sequel opened in theaters over the weekend and, sad to say, it fell pretty far short of expectations as well.

"I Know What You Did Last Summer" opened to an estimated $13 million domestically over the weekend, coupled with $11.6 million overseas. That gives it a $24.6 million global start against a reported $18 million budget. That's by no means a disaster but considering that pre-release estimates had "Last Summer" taking in between $16 and $25 million in North America, that's a disappointment. The re-introduction of the once-popular '90s slasher...
