Sherwood Schwartz's 1969 sitcom "The Brady Bunch" was progressive and retrogressive at the same time. On the one hand, it vaunted the virtues of remarrying and finding new families, showing that step-siblings and second spouses could produce as harmonious a domestic unit as more traditional nuclear families. On the other hand, the characters were clean-cut and virtuous to a cartoonish degree, only expressing the blandest sorts of domestic turmoil. It's easy to be harmonious when every member of the family is scrupulous and clean. The show was more about mild, silly pet peeves than about legitimately hard-hitting clashes of character.
Of course, "hard-hitting" was not Schwartz's métier. He was a writer of high-concept, light-hearted comedies. This was, after all, the "Gilligan's Island" guy. He wasn't about to skew into Neil Labute family dramas with "The Brady Bunch."

MTV launched on August 1, 1981, famously charging out of the gate with The Buggles' hit song "Video Killed the Radio Star." It was pretty presumptuous and cheeky for the suits at MTV to assume that their new network was instantly ripping apart an old media landscape, but they were eventually proven somewhat right. MTV became, for a prolonged spell, a brand new cultural fulcrum for Gen-x youths. The network didn't just randomly showcase hip music videos — a medium that exploded in popularity thanks to MTV's machinations — but carefully curated them, allowing viewers to appreciate certain genres, labels, or artists they may not have known otherwise. Some early MTV explorers may recall 1983's "I.R.S. Records Presents The Cutting Edge." Hosts would introduce blocks of videos and even take requests. The term VJ entered the pop lexicon.

It’s been 50 years since The Brady Bunch left the airwaves, so why does Robby Rist still have to put up with this crap?
Half a century after the kid actor was brought in to juice ratings for the flagging sitcom, Susan Olsen, who played Cindy Brady, is still calling his character, cousin Oliver, “our shark jump.” To make matters worse, Christopher “Peter” Knight called out Barry “Greg” Williams for hating on the tyke. “Barry was not a fan of Robbie Rist,” Knight explained. “When Robbie came on the show to play cousin Oliver, Barry wasn’t… Maybe because he was older and more conscious of what that could mean, he didn’t like him.”
Rist defended himself this week on The Patrick LabyorSheaux podcast. “I really got a sense from them over the years that they felt like I was some kind of interloper,” Rist said. “That I — you know,...

In sitcom lore, Fonzie leaving Milwaukee to water ski over a California shark — wearing an inexplicable fashion combo of swimming trunks and leather biker jacket — defined the moment when a popular TV comedy like Happy Days goes off the rails for good. Susan Olsen, who played Cindy Brady on The Brady Bunch, believes her sitcom had a similar “we’ve officially lost it” moment.
“What was the deal with Cousin Oliver?” asked a fan at the Chocolate Expo earlier this month as Olsen, Barry “Greg” Williams, Christopher “Peter” Knight and Mike “Bobby” Lookinland interacted with Brady buffs.
“Our shark jump,” Olsen answered, as reported by People.
Oliver, played by kid actor Robbie Rist, joined The Brady Bunch in its fifth and final season. The character was convinced he brought bad luck to the Bradys, and Olsen believes art was imitating life. “Every time a show is starting to get a...

The Brady Bunch remains one of television history's most well-known sitcoms, but at the time of its airing, the show started to lose some steam after several seasons. With the show's children getting older, the decision was made to introduce a new family member, but the cast agrees that this was the moment that the show jumped the shark.
Per People, some of the stars of The Brady Bunch reunited for a panel at The Chocolate Expo at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York, earlier this month. Cast members in attendance included Christopher Knight, Barry Williams, Mike Lookinland, and Susan Olsen. When the Brady Bunch stars were taking questions from fans, one person asked, "What was the deal with Cousin Oliver?"
"Our shark jump," Olsen responded. "Every time a show is starting to get a little bit lower in the ratings, they start to add in the cute kid."

After years of re-runs and all new generations finding the show, it might seem as if The Brady Bunchhas thousands of episodes to watch. The reality is that the show only ran for five seasons and had 117 episodes in total, but the cast themselves all thought the show would keep on running when it was originally airing on ABC. Now, Barry Williams, Christopher Knight, and Susan Olsen spoke with People at The Chocolate Expo at Hofstra University about saying goodbye to the Brady family.
A fairly harmless question had the former Brady kids talking about how they learned of The Brady Bunch's fate. When People asked about keeping props and things from the set, Knight shared that no one took anything because they thought the show was coming back. "We didn't know whether we were picked up." Williams went on to explain what happened after Season 5 of the show.

Were the sitcom gods picking on Susan Olsen, or did the actress who played Cindy simply have worse luck than a Brady kid carrying the tiki idol during the Hawaiian vacation episodes?
She recently complained on The Real Brady Bros podcast that she was nearly killed on the first day of filming, thanks to falling production equipment bonking her on the skull. And at last week’s Chocolate Expo, per People, Olsen revealed more physical maladies suffered on The Brady Bunch set.
Olsen told the story during a question-and-answer session when one fan asked if she was required to dye her hair to play the part of Cindy. “You bet,” she said. “Every three weeks they had to dye my hair. If you look at the third season, my hair is kind of a different shade of blonde every episode.”

The Brady Bunchis a staple of American television. You either watched it on TV Land reruns, watched it as it aired, or know the lore thanks to movies like The Brady Bunch Moviefrom 1995 — which really was a staple of parody film making (and a history lesson for those unaware of The Brady Bunch as a television show). Now, the cast of the 1969 series has reunited to talk a bit about their characters, who was the most like themselves, and more. At a panel at The Chocolate Expo, Barry Williams opened up about trying to be both Greg Brady and himself.

Susan Olsen, the Brady Bunch actress blamed for tanking another revival thanks to her conservative rants, lit up The Real Brady Bros podcast recently with a series of hot takes about her time on the original show. In addition to regrets about not suing Paramount over on-set injuries, she told TV brothers Christopher Knight (Peter), Barry Williams (Greg) and Mike Lookinland (Bobby) that she resented playing the dumbest Brady of them all.
Williams called out Cindy’s stupidity in the kindest way possible, remembering young Olsen as bright and not at all like her Brady character. Especially in the show’s early days, writers found “comedy” in Cindy not understanding, well, just about everything. An example from the first episode, in which mother Carol prepares for her marriage to Mike:

Susan Olsen — who played Cindy Brady, the “youngest one in curls” — suffered a terrible injury filming the first episode of The Brady Bunch.
The former child actor opened up about a backstage accident in a Wednesday episode of The Real Brady Bros podcast alongside her former co-stars Christopher Knight and Barry Williams.
During the show’s first pilot episode in 1969, where blended-family parents Mike and Carol Brady tie the knot, they revisited a moment when the camera struggled to focus on Cindy’s face. Olsen affirmed that it wasn’t a mistake but happened because she “got injured” before filming.
“I almost died,” Olsen said, adding that she suffered an injury while “standing on a makeup chair and something from the catwalk, where they keep all the lights and everything, fell.”

Being a kid on a sitcom is tough. If you manage to dodge addiction issues and kleptomaniacal parents, one thing will still always be gunning for you: Father Time. When sitcoms center around a family with at least one young child, a decent percentage of its humor usually comes from the young kid saying impossibly pithy lines crafted by adults.
But as the kid gets older, they often get less cute and their character is forced to change. So, where do all those snarky remarks and cutesy moments go? The solution is usually the same: bring in a brand-new cute kid regardless how much shoe-horning you need to do.
It’s happened a lot in sitcoms — like, dozens of them — but here are five of the best examples...

It's not uncommon for aspiring actors to start young, but there wasn't any time wasted when it came to queer icon Jodie Foster. She started in commercials as young as three and made her television debut as early as six in an episode of "Mayberry R.F.D." Long before she played the vulnerable defendant in "The Accused" or faced off against Hannibal Lecter in "The Silence of the Lambs," the child prodigy slowly made her way into film with roles in "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" and "Freaky Friday." By the time she was 12, Foster was not only working on her second Martin Scorsese picture with "Taxi Driver," but it was also the role that led her first of five Oscar nominations — and two wins.
In the interim before her big breaks, however, Foster was kept super busy when it came to guest appearances on a plethora of television shows. She...

Since getting his big break crafting jokes for Bette Midler in the early 1970s, Emmy-winning comedy writer and personality Bruce Vilanch has found success writing for the small screen and stage. But by his own admission, the scribe behind 25 Academy Award ceremonies and more than his fair share of Miss Universe and USA pageants has also penned some real flops.

According to one star of the series, a revival of The Brady Bunch came close to happening, only to be squashed before getting to production. Allegedly, this was due in part to Susan Olsen publicly expressing her political opinions.
In the classic sitcom, Olsen played Cindy Brady, the youngest of Carol's (Florence Henderson) three girls. During a recent interview for the "Walk Away Campaign" podcast (per Vanity Fair), Olsen said that CBS Studios had a planned Brady Bunch revival series in the works. The show was said to have followed Cindy and her siblings, now as adults, with Olsen's character portrayed as a libertarian podcaster. However, it's alleged that the network wound up scrapping the project due to Olsen's conservative views, particularly about her support for Donald Trump and criticism of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The blended family from The Brady Bunch were not as popular during their original run on ABC as they are today. The ’70s sitcom became a favorite among children and teenagers, who loved to see the sibling dynamics between the three brothers and three sisters. However, they apparently shared more than sibling love off-screen.

The Brady Bunch revival was reportedly canceled due to hate speech by one of its original stars. Aired on ABC from 1969 to 1974, the iconic sitcom follows the misadventures of a blended family, consisting of three boys and three girls, after a widower and a widow marry. Though it was never a ratings hit nor a critical success during its original run, the series gained popularity in syndication, spawning several Brady Bunch spin-offs, including The Brady Bunch Hour, The Brady Girls Get Married, The Brady Brides, and The Bradys.
Now, a Brady Bunch revival was reportedly canceled due to Cindy Brady actor Susan Olsen's hate speech. Though she recently claimed on her Walk Away Campaign podcast that CBS canceled the revival due to her political opinions, a new Variety report reveals that it was canceled because of Olsen's hate speech, including homophobic slurs, which earlier had led to her being fired from a radio job.

It sounds like we have Susan Olsen and her long history of unhinged rants to thank for stopping a terrible Brady Bunch reboot in its tracks.

More importantly, sources note that it was scrapped due to hate speech by Olsen, including homophobic slurs that had previously gotten her fired from a radio gig.

Susan Olsen, best known for playing Cindy Brady in The Brady Bunch, claims that CBS Studios canceled a sitcom revival due to her political views.
In a new interview, Olsen says a sequel show being developed at CBS Studios was scrapped due to her support of Donald Trump, her views on Covid vaccines, and her stance on the LGBTQ+ community.

Photo credit: “Shutterstock.AI” The Brady Bunch was a pop-culture phenomenon, changing how families were portrayed on TV over 50 years ago! Creator Sherwood Schwartz’s blended family of six kids struck a relatable chord as family dynamics were changing. Stars like Barry Williams (Greg) and Susan Olsen (Cindy) had no idea of the show’s massive reach until they ventured outside the studio. At a fan event a few years ago, they shared they had no idea how popular the show was until they got out of Los Angeles and saw and heard the reactions from across the country. “The Brady Bunch” star Barry Williams was inspired by TV mom Florence Henderson to go on “Dancing With the Stars,” he told TheWrap in an interview last week.
Henderson, who played mom Carol Brady on the ’70s sitcom, competed in Season 11 of the ABC competition. “She was my inspiration,” he said. When asked if he thinks of the actress, who died on Nov. 24, 2016, whenever he hits the dance floor, he answered, “Yes. Every week.”
Williams visited the set in 2010 to watch Henderson rehearse and perform. “I was really taken with it,” he said. “She had always mentored me in one way or another. She knew that I had been active theatrically in a lot of musicals, and she thought this would be a great fit for me. I got the bug, and she made me promise to go for it.”

Anyone who grew up in the 1970s can tell you the story of a lovely lady, who was bringing up three very lovely girls, and a man named Brady, who was busy with three boys of his own. Of course, one day, the lady met this fellow, and the rest is TV history. When Carol Martin (Florence Henderson) married Mike Brady (Robert Reed), all six of their children came together, along with their trusty maid Alice (Ann B. Davis), to become the sitcom family known as "The Brady Bunch."
"The Brady Bunch" is one of the most beloved and memorable sitcoms of all time. The adolescent antics of Greg (Barry Williams), Peter (Christopher McKnight), Bobby (Mike Lookinland), Marcia (Maureen McCormick), Jan (Eve Plumb), and Cindy (Susan Olsen) made for plenty of comedy and drama as the bunch dealt with the trials and tribulations of a blended family, sibling rivalries, growing up,...

HGTV suffered a significant financial loss when the iconic Brady Bunch house sold for $2.3 million less than the original listing price of $5.5 million. The property was ultimately sold for $3.2 million, which the listing agent believed was a more accurate value for a house that is not suitable for living and subject to restrictive Airbnb rental laws. Despite the loss, HGTV invested $1.9 million in renovations to transform the house into a full replica of the famous show, preserving its iconic status in television history.

HGTV has sold The Brady Bunch house and it did so at below the asking price and below the price they paid when they purchased it back in 2018.
The Los Angeles home served as the exterior shot of the popular 1970s sitcom. HGTV bought the home and renovated the interior to replicate the Hollywood sets of the comedy that starred Florence Henderson and Robert Reed.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the home sold for $3.2 million, which the cable network had listed at $5.5 million earlier this year. HGTV bought the home for $3.5 million at the time and documented the renovations with specials like A Very Brady Renovation and A Very Brady Renovation: Holiday Edition.
Tina Trahan, a self-proclaimed fan of the show and the 1995 parody film, bought the home and said she would use the house located in Studio City for charitable events.

If you've been fantasizing about living in the actual house from The Brady Bunch, as if you had just stepped straight into the sitcom from your living room, you are in luck... as long as you have $5.5 million to spend. The Los Angeles house used for the exterior shots of The Brady Bunch house is back on the market, but with some major changes. Located at 11222 Dilling St., the home was previously up for sale in 2018 when it was purchased by HGTV. The network then invited back the actors who played the Brady Bunch children to help renovate the home's interiors alongside HGTV stars, making the inside look just like the set that was used for the sitcom, complete with the familiar staircase.
The process was documented for the HGTV special A Very Brady Renovation, which drew 28 million viewers when it aired. The special notably brought back cast members Barry Williams...

As the person who played Cindy Brady on the classic sitcom The Brady Bunch, former child star Susan Olsen discovered worldwide fame when she was still just a very young girl. She was just under eight years old when she was cast in the role of Cindy, becoming part of a phenomenon as The Brady Bunch would become one of the era's most popular television programs. But with that fame came a lot of stress that was hard for Olsen to handle at the time. As Olsen recalls in a new interview with Fox News:
"Fame was the one part I didn’t like. I loved the work. I loved my castmates. I really loved the industry. I really liked what I did. I was a kid who wanted a job. [But] fame to me was silly. Just really, really ridiculous. It was like fool’s gold."

The Masked Singer season 9's third place finisher was California Roll, who was revealed to be a capella singing group, Pentatonix, and there are several other groups who would also be perfect for the mystery singing competition. Pentatonix is a five-member act, which is the largest in Masked Singer history. They brought their signature harmonies to songs such as "Paparazzi" by Lady Gaga, "Total Eclipse of the Heart" by Bonnie Tyler, "Creep" by Radiohead, and "Breakaway" by Kelly Clarkson.
The Masked Singer season 9's California Roll was not the first group to compete. That distinction belongs to Hanson, who competed on The Masked Singer season 5 as the Russian Dolls. In season 7, En Vogue appeared as the Queen Cobras, while The Brady Bunch brothers, Barry Williams (Greg), Christopher Knight (Peter), and Mike Lookinland (Bobby) were revealed to be the Mummies in season 8.
