Has written lyrics for a number of songs and artists, including two for his ex-wife Bonnie Raitt, one of which, "Longing in Their Hearts," won a Grammy for Raitt. The other song was from Raitt's "Luck of the Draw" album and was entitled "One Part be My Lover."

Tends to play athletes in movies: he's a basketball player in Il grande Santini (1979), a golfer in Palla da golf (1980), a gymnast in Punto debole (1982), and a baseball player in La moglie del campione (1985).

Alumnus of the AADA (American Academy of Dramatic Arts), Class of 1974.

While at Mamaroneck High School Michael was cast in The Fantastics at a young age. An old HS friend cast him against Terry Davis as Matt and Luisa. Shortly after High School he attended The American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC and was cast in a Crest Commercial.

He is of Irish, and a smaller amount of French-Canadian, ancestry.
