Keanu Reeves' Cyperpunk Thriller Is Streaming Free Next Month
Image
Years before he was hooked up to The Matrix, Keanu Reeves starred in another pioneering cyberpunk thriller, and next month, you'll be able to stream it for free. Based on a story by William Gibson, whose seminal cyberpunk novel Neuromanceris about to get a long-awaited adaptation of its own on Apple TV+, Johnny Mnemonic will be available to stream on the free, ad-supported platform Pluto starting on August 1.

Johnny Mnemonic is set in the same fictional universe as Neuromancer, and shares a character, the cyborg "razorgirl" Molly Millions; in the adaptation, her cybernetic abilities have been toned down, and she's referred to only as "Molly." It was directed by video artist and music video director Robert Longo; it remains, to date, his only feature film. Gibson adapted his own 1981 short story; Johnny Mnemonic was the first of Gibson's works to be adapted for the screen. After numerous stops and starts,...

Sean Connery's Underrated Dragon Cult Classic Soars to Paramount+ in August
Image
One of Sean Connery's most underrated films is heading to a brand-new streaming home.

Paramount+ is about to add 1996's Dragonheart to its ever-expanding streaming library. The classic fantasy film starring Dennis Quaid and Sean Connery is set to be available for streaming on Paramount+ beginning on Aug.1.

Directed by Rob Cohen from a screenplay by Charles Edward Pogue, who crafted the film's story alongside Patrick Read Johnson, Dragonheart stars Quaid as Sir Bowen, a brave knight who unwittingly served as the mentor to his land's future tyrant king, Einon, portrayed by David Thewlis. After a peasant named Kara, portrayed by Dina Meyer, accidentally wounds Einon's heart, his mother pleads with a dragon to save her son's life by replacing part of his heart with a piece of its own. While this does save the young prince, he ultimately grows up to be a cruel, murderous king, which drives...

'Saw' Franchise Now Under New Management as Blumhouse Officially Acquires the Rights
Image
Saw is a classic horror franchise that tortures audiences just as much as the characters in its films. From the first installment, Jigsaw becomes as frightening as Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees, holding a grudge against his victims that he felt took life for granted and aims to teach them a deadly lesson. With 10 movies in the franchise, not all were hits, but that's something Blumhouse is looking to turn around now that the studio is adding Saw to its horror family. According to Variety, the company which made hits like Paranormal Activity, Five Nights at Freddy's, Get Out, M3GAN, and more has acquired the rights to future films, shows, and other properties of the franchise.

For a franchise of this status, Blumhouse must've paid a hefty sum to snag it; however, the amount is undisclosed. The company bought the portion of Saw that was owned by producers Oren Koules and Mark Burg,...

Why The WB Canceled The Batman Spin-Off Series Birds Of Prey
Image
Over a decade before the Arrowverse shows and their crossover events set the standard on The CW, its predecessor, The WB, was already experimenting with similar ideas involving multiple DC Comics superheroes teaming up to fight evil. On October 9, 2002, the network's "Birds of Prey" introduced a Batman-free version of Gotham City where crime runs rampant and familiar faces from the DC universe clash.

From a modern point of view, the show had a lot going for it. Its promo clips heavily suggested that its events existed in (a version of) the same continuity as the Tim Burton Batman movies -- not that this stopped the series from briefly introducing a distinctly new version of the Joker, as voiced by none other than Mark Hamill.  As its main character, "Birds of Prey" had Helena "Huntress" Kyle (Ashley Scott), the super-powered daughter of Catwoman and Batman. Teaming up with former Batgirl Barbara Gordon...

Saw - L'enigmista (2004)
Darren Lynn Bousman Teases ‘Saw II’ 4K Restoration
Saw - L'enigmista (2004)
Although the future of the Saw franchise remains unclear, it’s never game over for Billy the Puppet.

“Very cool stuff in the works from my friends Lionsgate,” Saw II, Saw III, Saw IV, and Spiral director Darren Lynn Bousman wrote on Instagram. “Crazy to be looking back and rewatching Saw stuff decades later.”

With the series’ second installment celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and Bousman tagging post-production house FotoKem in the photo, it’s likely that a 4K restoration of Saw II is in the works.

The original Saw made its way to 4K Ultra HD back in 2021, but the sequels have yet to be upgraded. Perhaps we’ll get a box set with all 10 installments.

Written by Bousman and franchise co-creator Leigh Whannell, Saw II follows a group of ex-convicts forced to pass a series of deadly tests by the Jigsaw Killer.

Donnie Wahlberg, Franky G, Glenn Plummer,...

The Mobile Suits of Gundam Were Inspired by the Greatest Military Thriller Novel That Gave Us a $121M Cult-Hit in 1997
Image
Since the late 70s, the mecha genre of the anime industry has been ruled by only one franchise, and that is none other than Mobile Suit Gundam, created by Yoshiyuki Tomino. The series initially entertained Japan and then became world-class franchise that to this day is considered to be one of the greatest anime series focusing on topics like military and science fiction.

Over the years, the franchise has introduced many new spin-offs and sequel stories that varied from the previous one in more than one aspect. However, the one thing that has stayed constant within every Mobile Suit Gundam story is the iconic Mobile Suits, which worked as the humanoid combat vehicles for the different characters within the series.

These Mobile Suits sit at the centre of the entire Mobile Suit Gundam franchise and have worked as an inspiration for many different anime series and movies.

Chappie Director Neill Blomkamp To Tackle New Starship Troopers Movie Adaptation At Sony
Image
In the winter of 1997, Dutch auteur Paul Verhoeven somehow managed to sneak Starship Troopers, an eye-popping satirisation of Robert A. Heinlein's eponymous 1959 man-vs-alien-bug book, through the studio system. Like much of Verhoeven's oeuvre, Starship Troopers — the third part of the Dutchman's 'sci-fi trilogy', also comprising Robocop and Total Recall— was widely misunderstood upon release (despite a healthy $121 million box office showing), only going on to be critically reappraised after garnering a cult following in the years that followed. Now, THR is reporting that 28 years after Verhoeven did his part, Chappie and District 9 director Neill Blomkamp is gearing up to do his with a brand new adaptation of Heinlein's hugely influential novel for Sony. Would you like to know more?

Genre aficionado Blomkamp will be directing this new take on the conflict between humanity and alien 'Arachnids'/'Bugs' from a self-penned script, and will produce the film alongside longtime collaborator and wife Terri Tatchell.

District 9 Director to Reboot 28-Year-Old Sci-Fi Cult Classic That Faced Heavy Backlash in the '90s
Image
Starship Troopers is getting rebooted. The news comes 28 years after the original feature film was released in movie theaters.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, it has been revealed that filmmaker Neill Blomkamp (Gran Turismo) is set to give Starship Troopers a new adaptation. The film will not be a direct remake of the 1997 film, but will more so hearken back to the original 1959 novel by Robert A. Heinlein. Blomkamp is writing and directing the new movie, and he's also producing alongside his wife, Terri Tatchell, with whom he collaborated on District 9 and Chappie.

The original story is about an interstellar war between humans and bug-like alien creatures. Paul Verhoeven directed the 1997 adaptation with Casper Van Dien starring in the lead role of Johnny Rico. Other cast members included Dina Meyer, Denise Richards, Jake Busey, Neil Patrick Harris, Clancy Brown, Seth Gilliam, Patrick Muldoon, Dean Norris, and Michael Ironside.

Neill Blomkamp Directing New ‘Starship Troopers’ Movie!
Paul Verhoeven at an event for L'uomo senza ombra (2000)
Paul Verhoeven’s 1997 movie Starship Troopers pit a futuristic military unit up against insectoid creatures, with two live action sequels, two animated movies, and various video games following in its wake. We’ve been hearing rumblings about a new movie for several years now, and The Hollywood Reporter brings us an exciting update on that today.

According to the site, Columbia Pictures has hired Neill Blomkamp to write and direct the new Starship Troopers movie, which will re-adapt Robert A. Heinlein’s novel rather than outright remake Paul Verhoeven’s movie. Of course, Verhoeven’s movie was also an adaptation of Heinlein’s 1959 sci-fi novel.

THR details, “Starship Troopers ostensibly told of an interstellar war between Earth and a host of bug-like aliens, and focused on a rise of a military serviceman named Johnny Rico. But the story had other things on its minds, like exploring the strengths of life...

New ‘Starship Troopers’ Movie in the Works from ‘District 9’ Filmmaker Neill Blomkamp (Exclusive)
Image
Johnny Rico is coming back to kill some more bugs.

Columbia Pictures is plotting a new Starship Troopers movie, setting District 9 filmmaker Neill Blomkamp to write and direct an adaptation of the classic sci-fi novel story by Robert A. Heinlein.

Blomkamp will also produce the feature alongside Terri Tatchell, his partner and wife who co-wrote the South African filmmaker’s District 9 and 2015 outing, Chappie.

Published in 1959, Troopers ostensibly told of an interstellar war between Earth and a host of bug-like aliens, and focused on a rise of a military serviceman named Johnny Rico. But the story had other things on its minds, like exploring the strengths of life in a military society and such ideas as having to perform service in order to have voting rights.

While the book won a Hugo Award for best novel and has been quite influential in sci-fi literature, some quarters described the book as fascist.

The Doom Busters (2025) Review
Image
The year is 1940. Arthur Roundtree (Tom Bailey) and the other young men of Bramble Ridge Home Guard HQ yearn for a proper wartime mission other than being sidelined in their quiet area of the countryside and seeking out scarecrows dressed as Nazis in seemingly pointless exercises organised by the local Zone Commander (Maureen Bennett) who also happens to be Arthur’s gran. However, when a craft crashes on the outskirts of the village, Arthur and fellow misfits William (Timothy Renouf) and Harold (Oscar Meyrick) are tasked with not only saving their idyllic surrounding but possibly the entire galaxy. It’s far worse than “a pissed off badger” as William suggests early on…

From the team that brought us Here Comes Hell, a fun ride which brought demonic activity and monochromatic splatter to those 1930s old dark house horror tropes, The Doom Busters wanders a handful of years further down the...

The First Live-Action Harley Quinn Was Played By A Twin Peaks Star In A Forgotten TV Pilot
Image
The Batman villain Harley Quinn made her debut on the "Batman: The Animated Series" episodes "Joker's Favor", where she was voiced by actress Arleen Sorkin. The character was envisioned as a clown-like moll for the Joker, and was given a ditzy personality and a broad Noo Yawk accent. She proved to be so popular that she was eventually incorporated into Batman comic books, and soon grew to have titles of her own. Over the years, Harley Quinn has appeared in multiple TV shows and movies, most recently played in live-action by Lady Gaga in "Joker: Folie à Deux."

Fun trivia: Harley Quinn was actually preceded by a very, very similar character called Prank (Corinne Bohrer), a clown-like moll to a very Joker-like villain named the Trickster (Mark Hamill) on a 1991 episode of "The Flash." Whether or not the makers of "Batman: The Animated Series" were aware of Prank is a matter of speculation.

Saw IV (2007) – What Happened to This Horror Movie?
Image
Saw III could have been the end of the series. It killed off it’s primary antagonist in Jigsaw and wrapped up everything it could. That’s not how horror franchises work though, do they? While it’s easy to say that the massive 165-million-dollar box office of Saw III is responsible for the production of Saw IV, the truth is that the movie was greenlit before the third entry ever hit the theaters. How would the story progress after the death of John Kramer? Who would be in the directors’ chair to follow up the most successful film in the franchise? What would the original creators have to do with this movie? Sit back and prepare for another game as we find out what happened to Saw IV.

Saw IV opens with the audience witnessing an autopsy. It takes place immediately after Saw III with John Kramer, Jigsaw himself,...

Birds Of Prey (2002) Star Dina Meyer Shares Throwback Photo From Her Short Stint As Batgirl
Image
Though some of you may not even be aware of this, Warner Bros. aired a Birds of Prey TV series back in 2002, which ran for 13 episodes before being abruptly cancelled despite relatively strong ratings.

The show was set in an alternate DC Comics reality, taking place years after Batman abandoned Gotham City (now known as New Gotham) and focusing on a trio of heroes joining forces as the city's new protectors in the Dark Knight's absence.

The team was made up of Bruce Wayne and Selena Kyle's daughter Helene Kyle/Huntress (Ashley Scott), Barbara Gordon/Oracle (Dina Meyer), and Dinah Redmond/Black Canary (Rachel Skarsten), with Doctor Harleen Quinzel (Mia Sara) as their main adversary.

Birds of Prey is not exactly well-regarded (and wasn't at the time), but it has since gained something of a cult following, with most of the episodes available to watch on YouTube.

Star Trek: Nemesis Ending & Why It Killed Tng Movies Explained
Image
The fourth and final Star Trek: The Next Generation movie, Star Trek: Nemesis, put a nail in the coffin of what was—at the time—a dying Star Trek franchise. Star Trek: Nemesis saw Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) confront a younger clone of himself, Shinzon (Tom Hardy), who had been created by Romulans to secretly replace Picard. Shinzon had been discarded to the mines of Remus before becoming the new Romulan Praetor to exact his revenge. Star Trek: Nemesis' subplot featured the discovery of B-4 (Brent Spiner), an inferior Soong-type android built before Lt. Commander Data (Brent Spiner).

In theory, Star Trek: Nemesis' high-stakes cinematic action, with a screenplay and story by Academy Award-nominated John Logan with Brent Spiner, was designed to draw casual moviegoers. Further, Star Trek: Nemesis' themes of identity and duality in its Picard and Data storylines were supposed to create that cerebral Star Trek touch.

Denise Richards Reflects on ‘Starship Troopers,’ Her Character’s Strength, and Refusing an Unnecessary Nsfw Scene
Image
Starship Troopers (1997), directed by Paul Verhoeven, is a sci-fi movie about Earth fighting a war against giant alien bugs. The film uses extreme violence and nudity to satirize military propaganda, fascism, and nationalism.

Although it received mixed reviews when it first came out, it has since become a cult classic and is seen as a sharp commentary on war and society.

The cast includes Casper Van Dien as Johnny Rico, a star athlete turned soldier, Dina Meyer as Dizzy Flores, Rico’s fellow infantryman, Denise Richards as Carmen, Jake Busey as Ace Levy, Neil Patrick Harris as Carl Jenkins, Clancy Brown as Sergeant Zim, and Michael Ironside as Jean Rasczak, a teacher-turned-squad leader.

Denise Richards played Carmen, an aspiring starship pilot and Johnny Rico’s girlfriend in Starship Troopers. Despite the movie’s focus on gender equality, Richards was asked to do a topless scene, which she quickly turned down.

Star Trek: Nemesis Cast & Character Guide
Image
Star Trek: Nemesis brought together the cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation for their fourth and final big-screen adventure. Directed by Stuart Baird, and written by the Academy Award-nominated John Logan, Star Trek: Nemesis premiered in December 2002. Unfortunately, Star Trek: Nemesis ranks as the lowest-grossing Star Trek movie, and it was a bomb with critics and audiences that resulted in the end of the Star Trek: The Next Generation movie franchise.

Star Trek: Nemesis' plot involves Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) of the USS Enterprise-e meeting his clone, Shinzon (Tom Hardy), who took control of the Romulan Empire and plots to destroy the United Federation of Planets. Lt. Commander Data (Brent Spiner) also meets his malfunctioning android doppelganger, B-4. Underrated Cult Classic Sci-Fi Action Film Streaming for Free 27 Years After Release
Image
Paul Verhoeven's sci-fi action cult classic Starship Troopers is now streaming for free on Pluto TV. The iconic film, based on Robert A. Heinlein's 1959 novel of the same name, debuted exactly twenty-seven years ago.

Written by Edward Neumeier and set in the 23rd century, Starship Troopers follows teenager Johnny Rico (Casper Van Dien) and his comrades as they serve in the military of the United Citizen Federation, an Earth-based world government engaged in an interstellar war against an alien species known as the Arachnids. Dina Meyer, Denise Richards, Jake Busey, Neil Patrick Harris, Patrick Muldoon, and Michael Ironside also star in the movie. Starship Troopers' development started in 1991 as Bug Hunt at Outpost 7, written by Neumeier. After noticing story similarities with Heinlein's novel, producer Jon Davison suggested converting the script into a version of Starship Troopers to garner greater interest from studio executives.

27 years ago today, Starship Troopers was released.

From comics and novels to video games and toys, Saw may just be primed to start another legendary run in the 2020s. Saw III was a runaway train that is still the highest grossing film in the series, but it was almost not even made after the original creators were done. The Sci-Fi Flop Keanu Reeves Starred In Years Before The Matrix & Cyberpunk 2077
Image
In the 1990s -- back when the internet was new and smartphones didn't yet exist -- there was a healthy amount of skepticism about new technology. "Cyberspace," a term coined by sci-fi author William Gibson, was a terrifying new concept for some, and many Luddites feared it. A stationary network of millions of unknown users? And they're all tapping into the same ineffable, electric realm of information that's Not inside my personal computer? It's like someone peeled back a layer of reality and revealed a whole new dimension. Indeed, Brett Leonard's 1992 sci-fi/horror film "The Lawnmower Man" refers to the 'net in those exact terms. That film also posited that Virtual Reality would come to replace real reality.

Throughout the decade, audiences were treated to numerous paranoid cyberthrillers that alternately vaunted the possibilities of the internet while also pointing out its potential for destruction. This was the age that...

Starship Troopers Cast Reunites Alongside A Huge Bug In New Image 27 Years After Cult Classic's Release
Image
Some of the Starship Troopers original cast reunites after 27 years under the shadow of a familiar foe. The 1997 film developed a cult following after its anti-fascist satire was initially misunderstood by critics. Despite a reboot having been in the works since 2011, no significant news has surfaced in years.

It has been 27 years since Starship Troopers was first released, but the original cast has reunited under the shadow of a familiar foe. Based on the 1959 sci-fi novel of the same name, 1997s Starship Troopers largely failed to resonate with critics at the time of its original release, with many misinterpreting the movies anti-fascist satire. However, in the years that followed, it would not only come to develop a cult following, but would also spawn two low-budget sequels, animated movies and television series, and multiple video game tie-ins.

Ahead of the October 11 release date for the franchises latest video game, Starship Troopers: Extermination,...

Original Saw 'Villain' Reflects on the Films Groundbreaking Ending
Image
Michael Emersonhas been reflecting on his role as the 'villain' of 2004'sSaw, revealing that he couldn't refuse his role due to the script's ending. Emerson is known for many roles, including that of another conflicted character, Benjamin Linus inLost, but when it came to starring inSaw,the actor starred in the film for the simple reason that the film's ending was "the best ending" he had ever read.

Emerson spoke with Collider about his role in the horror TV show Evil, where he plays Dr. Leland Townsend, a very knowledgeable antagonist. When asked about his character in Saw, Zep Hindle, Emerson recalled the film's ending being the single reason that he took the role in James Wan's then-indie project about horror's most creative "non-killer." It was all about the script, but he also admits that he didn't really have a good time:

"It was a punishing shoot and it's...

10 Great Movies You Really Need To Stop Calling Guilty Pleasures
Image
Guilty pleasure movies are often misunderstood gems that deserve more appreciation and respect. Starship Troopers, Batman Forever, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull are underrated classics. John Carter, Cars 2, and The Lone Ranger offer unique stories and themes that challenge the conventions of their genres.

The term "guilty pleasure" is often used to describe a movie that someone can only enjoy in secret, for fear of what the wider public thinks of the movie. Often, this means that a guilty pleasure movie is one that is typically looked down upon. However, I would argue that guilty pleasure is a term that is thrown around far too often when discussing unloved movies. But what if these guilty pleasures aren't actually guilty? What if they're just actually good movies?

From the vastness of space to the dust of the Wild West, some of these so-called "guilty pleasures" are actually truly great movies.

“He really got Johnny from day one”: Keanu Reeves Will Forever Regret Swapping Places With Val Kilmer for One Movie With 21% Rating in Which He Was Painfully Miscast
Image
Keanu Reeves has always had a career worth the envy of his contemporaries. From his righteous indignance against violence in turning down Oliver Stoneʼs Platoon to becoming one of the most in-demand action movie stars, even in his late 50s, Reeves doesnʼt leave much to the imagination as far as his success is concerned. But even those set on the path of success can sometimes tread down the wrong path.

Despite the direction in which Reeves was later bound to go in his career, in hindsight, the actor got his start playing charming go-getters stuck in difficult predicaments. Be it Speed or Constantine or The Devilʼs Advocate, he has always been the quiet charmer with a chip on his shoulder, fighting against all odds for the selfless greater good.

Starship Troopers: Why The Shower Scene Is So Subversive
Image
Starship Troopers' shower scene is a subversive moment that reveals the dark hints about the society it takes place in. The co-ed shower scene highlights the expendability of all characters, regardless of background or gender, serving as fodder for the military. As the film ages, the satire of Starship Troopers becomes more relevant, critiquing society's obsession with conflict and the dehumanization of enemies.

It might seem like an excuse to include nudity, but the Starship Troopers shower scene is actually one of the most subversive in the satirical sci-fi. Starship Troopers is considered Dutch auteur Paul Verhoeven's last great American movie, and on the surface, it's about a bunch of good-looking soldiers flying to a distant planet to fight a race of super-aggressive bugs. It's packed with bloody action and CGI that has held up surprisingly well, but it was a box-office disappointment. However, over the decades, it became...

Starship Troopers' visual effects hold up well 27 years later, impressing the Corridor Crew. The gasoline explosion and CG work in the film were revolutionary for its time in the '90s. Despite being a box office flop, Starship Troopers has become a sci-fi cult classic over the years.

Apple TV+ Adapting Classic Sci-Fi Novel Into New Series After Silo & Foundation Success
Image
Apple TV+ to adapt William Gibson's Neuromancer into a 10-episode show. Neuromancer's influence extends to The Matrix, and Gibson's works have been adapted before with Prime Video show The Peripheral and the Keanu Reeves movie Johnny Mnemonic. Apple TV+ aims to bring audiences into Gibson's "cyberpunk" world, and the potential for Neuromancer to continue Apple TV+'s sci-fi success is high.

Apple TV+ has officially greenlit a television adaptation of William Gibson’s Neuromancer, fresh off the success of their other sci-fi shows Silo and Foundation. Building on the dystopian future established in his previous short stories, many of the themes and terms featured in 1984’s Neuromancer would go on to inspire countless other science fiction tales, including 1999’s The Matrix. Previously, Deadpool and Terminator: Dark Fate director Tim Miller had been attached to a potential movie adaptation in 2017.

Apple TV+ officially announced that Gibson’s classic sci-fi...

Startling Reason Why Starship Troopers Writer Chose Bugs as the Villain in Og Script Has Been Kept Secret for 27 Years
Image
Starship Troopers has continued to remain a cult-classic sci-fi movie that features a group of teens who undergo rigorous training to prepare themselves to fight off gigantic bugs that are invading Earth. While the movie on its own is an underrated sci-fi project in the cinematic world, many would be surprised to know why an insect was particularly chosen to be a villain.

Casper Van Dien in Starship Troopers(1997)

But, before diving into how Bugs initially got finalized as the movie’s antagonist, one must know that the movie’s development began as a separate project called, Bug Hunt at Outpost 7, written by Ed Neumeier. That was when the Bugs’ history originated!

Starship Troopers (1997) Revisited – Movie Review
Image
Look, I don’t want to waste anyone’s time. We all know that Starship Troopers (watch it Here) isn’t a horror movie. It’s a science fiction intergalactic comedy with a light tone and Neil Patrick Harris- but it’s also a well-made and tightly performed 90s creature feature that is sure to tickle the nostalgia bone for many JoBlo Horror fans. And with Paul Verhoeven being fresh on the mind from our Robocop episode, we thought it would only make sense to follow it up with another Verhoeven classic that showcases how far the director had come in the 10 years between these two films. If you’re still not convinced, this film also delivers on terrifying creatures, plenty of blood and guts, and even some boobies for you slasher trope seekers out there. While being more comedy/action than anything- Starship Troopers is a film that...

Christopher Nolan Not Using Barbara Gordon Was His Greatest Misstep
Image
Barbara Gordon's absence in The Dark Knight trilogy is an example of putting women in the back seat. Christopher Nolan's decision to exclude Barbara Gordon ignores her potential as a well-rounded character. Including Barbara Gordon in The Dark Knight trilogy would have provided a strong connection between the films and improved the story.

Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy is celebrated for its amazing take on Batman. The three movies rescued the Caped Crusader from the doldrums of the post-Joel Schumacher era, while focusing the story on Bruce Wayne for what felt like the first time. It stripped Batman down to his gritty basics without compromising the essence of the comics, as well as giving the story a viable arc with an organic conclusion. Christian Bale depicted a first-rate incarnation of Bruce Wayne that aged well, alongside a top-notch cast with singular takes on key Gotham figures.

Saw 11 Is The Perfect Chance To Bring Back The Franchise's Original Protagonist
Image
Saw XI, the upcoming sequel in the franchise, can bring back Allison Kerry, the original protagonist. Bringing back Allison Kerry would fit perfectly in the Saw timeline and expand her story. Saw XI can explore the tragedy of Saw III and add emotional depth by further exploring the Kerry-Amanda-Hoffman dynamic.

The Saw franchise will continue to expand with Saw XI, and if it follows the style of the previous movie, it will be the perfect chance to bring back the franchise’s original protagonist. In 2003, James Wan and Leigh Whannell made a short film (now known as Saw 0.5) which served to pitch the concept of what would become one of the most popular franchises in the horror genre. The saga kicked off in 2004 with Saw, which introduced the audience to John “Jigsaw” Kramer (Tobin Bell), a serial killer who trapped his victims in elaborate life-threatening situations to “test” their will to survive.

The Saw Franchise Actually Started in 2003, and Most Fans Had No Idea
Image
The Saw franchise began in 2003 with Saw 0.5, a scene from the early draft of Saw that was used to prove the concept to potential producers. Leigh Whannell played the character David in Saw 0.5 before returning as Adam Stanheight in the film. Shawnee Smith's character, Amanda Young, experienced the same trap in Saw as David did in Saw 0.5 and later became Jigsaw's apprentice.

If you thought the Saw franchise started in 2004, think again. Leigh Whannell and James Wan's successful body horror not only gave Wan his directorial debut but also marked Whannell's first-ever acting role. But not quite. Technically, Whannell burst onto the acting scene in 2003, starring as David in a short film that would later become known as Saw 0.5. He wouldn't reprise the character in Saw but would instead return in a new role as the movie's lead protagonist, Adam Stanheight.

Whannell and Wan were initially given $30,000 to fund the film,...

Saw Producers Keep the Original’s Bathroom Set Standing Due to Observant Fans
Image
The iconic bathroom set from the original Saw film has been preserved for future movies. Keeping the original bathroom set saves time and effort in recreating it for each installment in the franchise. While there are no official plans for the next Saw film, the creative team has ideas and intends to focus on John Kramer's story.

Saw X director Kevin Greutert revealed that the franchise's iconic bathroom set has been kept intact for future movies. And it's because of eagle-eyed fans. While the Saw franchise has seen its fair share of sequels over the last 20 years, nothing has quite reached the same level of shock as the twist at the end of the James Wan-directed 2004 horror film. As fans of the franchise always know, Saw concludes with the seemingly dead body in the bathroom rising up and revealing them self to be John Kramer, the Jigsaw killer.
