Domenick Lombardozzi & Annabella Sciorra Discuss Fresh Kills
Image
Quick Links Domenick Lombardozzi and His Rotten Apple Character Jennifer Esposito's Clear Vision for Fresh Kills

Fresh Kills tells a gripping coming-of-age story about two very different sisters in a close-knit Staten Island mob family. Jennifer Esposito writes, directs, and stars as Francine Larusso, mother to the quiet Rose (Emily Bader) and her formidable older sister Connie (Odessa A'zion). Domenick Lombardozzi co-stars as Joe, Francine's gangster boss husband and the girls' father. Annabella Sciorra plays his sister, Christine, who turns a blind eye to her brother's ruthless activities.

The film brilliantly focuses on women trapped in a situation with nowhere to turn. Lombardozzi and Sciorra credit Esposito's skill in working with the younger cast. The native New Yorkers humorously admit they really never went to Staten Island before filming because they "had no reason" to except for an easier Dmv. Please watch above and read below our interview with Lombardozzi and Sciorra.

Jennifer Esposito writes, directs, produces, and co-stars in Fresh Kills, a searing period drama about sisters coming of age in a Staten Island mafia family during the late '80s and early '90s. Esposito plays Francine Larusso, wife of a mob boss, Joe (Domenick Lombardozzi), and mother to the reserved Rose (Emily Bader) and fierce Connie (Odessa A'zion).

Esposito drew on her own experiences growing up on Staten Island, where the women in her neighborhood felt trapped "in a box" and had "no choice" about their futures. Fresh Kills is a deeply personal story told through a riveting ensemble. Esposito delivers a magnificent feature directorial debut. Please watch above or read below for our complete exclusive interview with her.

Full-Length Trailer for 'Go/Don't Go' Post-Apocalyptic Indie Thriller
Alex Knapp, Thomas Essig, Olivia Luccardi, Nore Davis, and Max Gardner in Go/Don't Go (2020)
"What, I'm not making it up... I saw it... You saw it!" Kamikaze Dogfight has revealed the full-length official trailer for an indie psychological thriller titled Go/Don't Go, made by, starring and directed by filmmaker Alex Knapp. This originally premiered at the San Francisco Independent Film Festival last year, and drops on VOD later in January. Caught between a lost love story and inescapable paranoia, Knapp's Go/Don't Go is a "genre-bending" slow burn thriller that follows Adam, a wallflower who happens to be the last person left alive – or so he thinks... The indie film stars Alex Knapp, Nore Davis, Olivia Luccardi, Thomas Essig, and Bettina Skye. It's described as a "post-apocalyptic psychological thriller, oscillating between a forgotten love story & inescapable paranoia." This footage looks a bit pretentious, but still worth watching, with some slick shots of a lonely post-apocalyptic world. I'm rather intrigued by this strange indie creation. Here's...

A Cataclysm Takes Place in Alex Knapp's Go/Don't Go
Go/Don't Go is a film from first time filmmaker Alex Knapp. Blending in several genres, this indie title is set in a post-apocalyptic cataclysm. Here, Adam struggles to survive in an ever changing world. As well, Go/Don't Go stars: Olivia Luccardi (It Follows), Nore Davis, Bettina Skye, Tom Essig and others. A preview of the film's impending release is available now. The film's teaser trailer shows a host of images. Very convoluted, Knapp's first film looks to be focused on the visuals, rather than the narrative. Still, this psychological thriller promises something different in Adam's devolving world. Go/Don't Go will release this January 12st. Via Gravitas Ventures, this release will be available on most Digital platforms including: iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, XBox, Vudu amongst others. Fans of the surreal can view the teaser trailer for Go/Don't Go below. Release Date: January 12th, 2021. Director/writer: Alex Knapp.

‘Girls Just Wanna Have Blood’ Review
Image
Stars: Amanda Renee, Destyne Marshai, Penny Praline, Gigi Gustin, Bettina Skye, Craig Kelly, Kirk Ponton, David M. Sitbon | Written and Directed by Anthony Catanese

“The only positive thing about you is your HIV status.”

As one would naturally expect, Girls Just Wanna Have Blood opens with a deadly bite of sickly sleaze, but is yet accompanied (and quite often too) with a killer rock soundtrack… almost Giallo-esque. The biters? Trish (Destyne Marshai), April (Penny Praline) and Stacy (Gigi Gustin) – they use seduction to gain the attention of their victims. Essentially, they are the sleazed-up, youthful version of the Sanderson sisters from Hocus Pocus, but vampires instead of witches . If anything serious can be read in this film or taken from it, it is the concept of family and the theme of belonging is ever present. For the unfortunate Jessica (Amanda Renee), the opportunity to belong is exactly how the vampiric...

First Trailer for Sultry Horror Comedy 'Girls Just Wanna Have Blood'
Bettina Skye
"Do you think you can handle us? All three of us?" Wild Eye Releasing has debuted an official trailer for an indie horror comedy titled Girls Just Wanna Have Blood, which is too obvious of a name to actually be clever. Described as a "bloody and unique new addition to the vampire-pic subsection", the film is the latest from filmmaker Anthony Cantanese. When Jessica is accepted by a trio of fun loving vampires, she finds herself thrust into a lifestyle full of long nights, sex-crazed bikers, and blood suckin' galore. It should not surprise anyone this is headed straight-to-vod this summer, barely looks like a B-movie. Girls Just Wanna Have Blood stars Amanda Renee, Bettina Skye, David M. Sitbon, Kirk Ponton, and Gigi Gustin. I don't know how these films get made or who they're for, but it exists, and it's available to view soon anyway. Here's the first trailer...

2016 Sundance Film Festival Predictions: Mark Elijah Rosenberg’s Ad Inexplorata
Naturally the post production process can be a lengthier one when latticeworking critical sci-fi elements with technical aspects. As is the nature with our set of predictions, sometimes we jump the gun. No updates have been made in the interim, but Mark Elijah Rosenberg‘s debut should logically be ready to dock in 2016. Starring Mark Strong, Sanaa Lathan, Charles Baker and Bettina Skye, Ad Inexplorata received support from Indian Paintbrush Fellowship (2011), Creative Producing Summit (2011), Creative Producing Feature Film Lab (2011), 2011 June Screenwriters Lab (2011), 2012 Screenplay Reading Series (2012) and coin from the San Francisco Film Society and it received the Sundance Nhk Filmmaker Award (2014).

Gist: Captain William D. Stanaforth (Strong), is a Nasa pilot alone on a one-way mission toward the unknown. Faced with mechanical problems, physical suffering from long distance space travel, and the mental obstacles of a journey into the unknown, the trip begins to take its toll on the ship…...

2015 Sundance Predictions: Which Film is the Next Whiplash?
Despite the lottery-esque sounding odds, the U.S Dramatic Competition section which produces the finest American indie specimens such as Frozen River, Winter’s Bone, Blue Valentine, Martha Marcy May Marlene, Beasts of the Southern Wild, Fruitvale Station and Whiplash is fairly consistent in terms of quality. Last year’s crop of sixteen have almost all had their theatrical releases with Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter being the last one out of the gates (pegged with an early 2015 release). Last week we individually looked at our top 80 Sundance Film Fest Predictions (you’ll find 30 other titles worth considering in our intro) and below, we’ve split the list into narrative and non-fiction film items and have both identified and color-coded our picks in an AtoZ cheat sheet. You’ll find 2015′s answer to Whiplash located somewhere in the stack below. Click on the individual titles below, for the film’s profile.

2015 Sundance Film Festival Predictions: Mark Elijah Rosenberg’s Ad Inexplorata: Toward the Unknown
An instrumental and influential American independent film promoter/curator/supporter/taste-maker in the business, Rooftop Films creator and artistic director Mark Elijah Rosenberg (pictured above) moves from open air cinema, to open space possibilities. While the current outer space talk is the Nolan Imax film, I’m more excited about the prospects for Ad Inexplorata: Toward the Unknown, which has been welcomed by the Sundance folks with open arms: landing support via the Indian Paintbrush Fellowship (2011), Creative Producing Summit (2011), Creative Producing Feature Film Lab (2011), 2011 June Screenwriters Lab (2011), 2012 Screenplay Reading Series (2012) and finally some coin from the San Francisco Film Society before landing the Sundance Nhk Filmmaker Award (2014). Production began earlier this year with Mark Strong toplining. Supporting players include Sanaa Lathan, Charles Baker and Bettina Skye.

Gist: Captain William D. Stanaforth (Strong), is a Nasa pilot alone on a one-way mission toward the unknown. Faced with mechanical problems, physical...
