When Elizabeth Meriwether devoured all six episodes of the “Dying for Sex” podcast in one sitting, she fell in love with its unfiltered honesty. Released by Wondery in early 2020, the podcast candidly chronicled Molly Kochan’s sexual awakening after being diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic breast cancer. Her best friend, Nikki Boyer, was by her side for all the highs and lows.

“I was so taken by the tone of it, how funny it was in the midst of some of the worst things that can happen to a person, and the friendship at the heart of it,” Meriwether said. It was a big night for television, as Emmy favorites descended upon Cipriani Wall Street in New York City for the second annual Gotham TV Awards. Launched in 2024, the TV branch of the beloved indie film award show continues to stake out an early position on the calendar that could eventually make it a barometer for the Emmy race in a way that mirrors the Gotham Awards’ traditional relationship with the Oscars.

The four-episode series about a teenage boy accused of murder, which became a much-talked-about phenomenon shortly after its streaming debut last month, landed nods for breakthrough limited series, lead performance in a limited series (Stephen Graham) and two nods for supporting performance in a limited series (Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty).

Dawson's Creekstar James Van Der Beek reveals why his iconic character "looked like a pubescent Jesus."

Per Entertainment Weekly, the Dawson's Creek star recalled the story of getting his iconic '90s look before landing the role of Dawson Leery. Van Der Beek said that, at the time, he was desperately in need of a haircut when series' creator Kevin Williamson was able to snag an appointment with his own hairdresser. "And I meet his assistant [at the salon], and there was an Entertainment Weekly with a picture of Brad Pitt in TheDevil's Own, and we're like, 'Alright, give him that.' So that became the Dawson Season 1 haircut."

Released in 1997, The Devil's Own was an action thriller featuring Pitt in one of his more serious roles. Dawson's Creek fans may not have realized it was that role of Pitt's in particular that influenced Van Der Beek's look for the teen drama series.

"Worst case scenario, he's this annoying, gross collection of sights, sounds, and smells," jokes Rob Delaney about his character, simply known as Neighbor Guy, in FX's limited series Dying for Sex.

The tragic comedy stars Michelle Williams as Molly, a woman diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, who abandons her husband (played by Jay Duplass) of 15 years and begins to fully explore her sexuality.

After reading the script, Delaney realized that Neighbor Guy develops into a "pretty fantastic character" — one who ultimately provides Molly with the kinky outlet and emotional connection she craves. "It's funny that he does not have a name," Delaney tells Gold Derby, "but he definitely leaves more of an impression than a lot of people with names do."

Delaney says he's in a "sweet spot" in his career — auditioning for roles, pursuing opportunities that excite him, and occasionally receiving direct offers. Neighbor Guy was one such offer.

If you ask a handful of people what Hugh Jackman is best known for, most would understandably say playing Wolverine. However, there would likely be a few non-comic book fans in the bunch who would say his most notable role is P.T. Barnum. Jackman stars as The Greatest Showman, P.T. Barnum, in the 2017 film of the same name, which is still viewed as some of his most famous work. Currently absent from streaming, Prime Video has announced that The Greatest Showman is coming to the platform on June 1. The film was met divisively upon release, earning a “rotten” 56% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but the audience-driven Popcorn meter lands at a much more satisfactory 86%, just short of earning the fabled “verified hot” label.

Despite not being particularly well-received by critics upon release, The Greatest Showman grossed $469 million at the global box office, more than five times its reported budget of $84 million.

Kelly Reichardt’s latest film “The Mastermind,” starring Josh O’Connor as an art thief on the run, earned a 5.5-minute standing ovation at its Cannes premiere on Friday night.

Reichardt’s subdued, ‘70s-set movie was essentially a one-man show for O’Connor, with him appearing in nearly every scene. Haim plays his quiet wife, who is aware of his husband’s schemes but leaves with their twin boys once the cops start tracking him down.

In tears, Reichardt humbly accepted the applause, but as the standing and clapping went on and on, she seemed eager to take the mic and get on with her remarks. She poignantly told the crowd, “America’s in a ditch right now, but maybe we’ll get out of it. But in the meantime we have the movies.”

Jauntier than any of Kelly Reichardt’s previous work, “The Mastermind” packs an ironic punch. That the title need not be taken literally becomes clear right from the start, of course; that the film’s shaggy-dog tone belies something far-sadder and more allegorical takes a bit longer to set-in. Closing out the Cannes competition with a throwback crime caper set to a jazz-beat, “The Mastermind” also gives the minimalist filmmaker a new world to etch out in fine detail, sending us back to 1970 with a very millennial guide.

In a sneak peek for Busy‘s QVC+ talk show, Busy This Week, she and Michelle looked back at immediately connecting on set of Dawson’s Creek more than 25 years ago.

During their chat, Busy, 45, admitted that she was nervous to join the beloved teen drama series in season 5 and though she didn’t personally know Michelle, 44, they “had heard of each other.”

Over two decades ago, fans bid farewell to one of America's most-watched teen dramas, which has since launched its main cast to international stardom while also influencing the creation of contemporary teen-centered shows. Dawson’s Creek is that beloved classic, and it last aired on May 14, 2003, with a bittersweet two-part series finale set in the year 2008. While that was the last run for the romance series, it appears that there were previously discussions about it coming back to life, along with the return of the original cast.

During an exclusive interview with TV Insider, Kevin Williamson, the original creator of Dawson’s Creek, spoke of those past conversations centered on the classic’s revival, which also piqued the interest of the original cast. Apparently, he thought the show’s era was over, but then those few years when every TV show was getting a reboot came about, and Dawson’s Creek couldn’t just be left out.

“They have completely different personalities, like you're talking to different people,” says Derek McLane of the musicals Death Becomes Her and Just in Time. The scenic designer is a two-time Tony Award winner, but this year he achieved a feat that left him “stunned.” He was nominated twice in the same category, with his work on both productions being recognized in the Scenic Design of a Musical race.

Speaking to Gold Derby, McLane reveals that the key to any design process is listening to the elements that make each production unique. “They have such totally different personalities, such different engines,” he says of the two nominated projects. “The thing I love about set design is that I feel like if I do it successfully, each set design develops its own rules. Once that happens, there's no mistaking them. They become their own Frankensteins where they just start making their own decisions for you.

During those few years when it seemed like TV was rebooting every beloved show from your childhood, there was a brief moment when Dawson’s Creek was almost among them. When Dawson’s Creek ended in 2003, the generation-defining series wrapped up its story with a mix of happy endings and heartbreak. The Oscar nominee starred in Derek Cianfrance’s 2010 romantic drama alongside Ryan Gosling as a couple who were once in love but drifted apart. After shooting early scenes where their characters were “young and in love,” Williams said they “took a two-week break” in filming and were encouraged to live together to “figure out ways to annoy each other.”

“We took a break in filming, and [then] we lived together, office hours [style], like 9 to 5,” she said on a recent episode of the Armchair Expert podcast. “We did these improvisations during the day, honestly, to figure out ways to annoy each other and to destroy this thing that we had made.”

The Dying for Sex star admitted “we weren’t even going to take that break” but they did because “we were having such a hard time letting go of the thing that we loved.

Michelle Williams has a lot of love for 2010 indie “Blue Valentine,” but the actress is skeptical over whether or not the film could be made today. “Blue Valentine,” which marks its 15th anniversary this year, stars Williams and Ryan Gosling as an ill-fated married couple struggling to maintain their love across years together. Writer/director Derek Cianfrance spent 12 years (and 66 script drafts) preparing to helm the now-acclaimed drama.

Williams said during the “Armchair Expert” podcast, as reported from Variety, that the dedication to and scrappiness during the production most likely could not be replicated today. “I don’t know if anybody could work like that again,” Williams said. “You’ve got a crew that’s on hold. You’re paying people, I mean, it’s such a small movie, so, so low budget and a small crew, but you’re taking a big down period in the middle of the thing.

Michelle Williams is detailing a time she and Ryan Gosling truly committed to their characters for a movie.

Michelle and Ryan starred in the 2010 film Blue Valentine together, which tells the story of a couple whose marriage unravels. The now 44-year-old actress explained that in order to better grasp the nature of their characters’ relationship, the two decided to temporarily live together.

“We took a break in filming. We shot the first part when they’re young and in love and everything’s going really well. And then we took a two-week break, and we lived together,” she said while on the “Armchair Expert” podcast.

Michelle clarified that they only lived together part time, and described the situation as “professional.”

Cocreators Liz Meriwether and Kim Rosenstock, who’d worked together on New Girl, teamed up again to adapt the podcast cohosted by Molly Kochan and her best friend, Nikki Boyer, into a limited series starring Michelle Williams and Jenny Slate. The 44-year-old Emmy-winning actress sported a fake baby bump as she filmed scenes for A Place in Hell on Sunday (May 11) in New York City.
