The Weather Channel has picked up the docuseries “Rocky Mountain Wreckers,” which is set to premiere April 13.

From the producers of “Highway Thru Hell” and “Heavy Rescue: 401,” which also air on Weather Channel, the weekly hourlong series aims to take viewers behind-the-scenes of what it’s like to work on a recovery crew in the Rocky Mountains.

The official synopsis for the show reads: “From battling raging fires to managing hazardous spills, audiences will witness the high-stakes challenges faced by these professionals. Each episode immerses viewers in the adrenaline-filled lives of the recovery teams as they tackle wreckage with an impressive array of heavy equipment and unparalleled expertise — all while racing against the clock.”

“Rocky Mountain Wreckers” is part of Weather Channel’s focus on presenting programs that showcase “how weather dramatically affects our lives,” said Byron Allen, founder and chairman of Weather Channel parent company Allen Media Group.

Exclusive: Ahead of the EFM, Blue Fox Entertainment has acquired international sales rights to the recently greenlit sequel to the hit Tubi Original, Sidelined: The Qb and Me, known internationally as The Bad Boy And Me.

Stars Noah Beck and Siena Agudong are reprising their roles. Justin Wu will also return to direct, with Thunderbird Entertainment’s Great Pacific Media, Marshall Arts and Wattpad Webtoon Studios producing. Crystal Ferreiro, who co-wrote the first film with Mary Gulino, will pen the sequel.

Exclusive: James Van Der Beek (Pose) has signed on to star in Sidelined: The Qb and Me (fka The Qb Bad Boy and Me), the upcoming Tubi Original based on Wattpad’s breakout YA novel The Qb Bad Boy and Me by Tay Marley, which has to date amassed over 31M reads.

Van Der Beek joins a cast led by Siena Agudong, which also includes Noah Beck and Drew Ray Tanner. Other new additions to the ensemble of the film, on which we were first to report, include Deborah Cox (Station Eleven) and Jake Foy (Allegiance).

Sidelined tells the story of Dallas (Agudong), a burdened but headstrong dancer, who is determined to get into the best dance school in the country — her late mother’s alma mater. However, that dream is suddenly derailed when the cheeky yet secretly grieving football star, Drayton (Beck), crashes into her life with a unique story of his own.

Blue Fox Entertainment has acquired international rights to the YA rom-com Boot Camp and will introduce the film to EFM buyers in Berlin next week.

The feature is based on the Wattpad webnovel of the same name by Gina Mush and was directed by Mackenzie Munro from Gemma Holdway’s adapted screenplay.

Blue Fox plans to show first footage on the story starring Rachel Boudwin (Dhar Mann), Drew Ray Tanner (Riverdale), and Emmanuelle Chriqui (Superman And Lois) about a young woman who signs up for summer boot camp and falls for her off-limits personal trainer.

ITV Spent $68M On Diverse Shows In 2023

ITV invested £54.2M ($68M) of its Diversity Commissioning Fund last year on shows made by or about people from under-represented backgrounds such as Lenny Henry’s Three Little Birds. The fund was launched in 2022 with £80M to be spent across three years to “drive change towards racial equity and disability equity in whose stories get told,” with one quarter reserved for content made by “production companies led by People of Colour and/or Deaf, Disabled and/or Neurodivergent people.” The figures came as part of the Love Island network’s Diversity Acceleration Plan report for the previous 12 months, which said 475 productions across around 160 production companies have embedded Dei using ITV’s production principles over the past three years. Weather Channel has greenlit docu-series Rocky Mountain Wreckers, which will follow the harrowing adventures of four family-owned heavy wrecking businesses — Mountain Recovery, Stauffer’s Towing & Recovery, Reliable Towing and Big Al’s Towing — across Colorado, Utah and Wyoming.

Weather Channel has U.S. rights and will act as international distributor. Bell Media is the Canadian production partner and has taken rights for Discovery Canada. Production has begun, with the series set to deliver in fall 2024.

Thunderbird Entertainment’s Great Pacific Media is producing the show, marking its first majority U.S. commission. David Way, Todd Serotiuk, Millan Curry-Sharples and Michael Francis serve as executive producers for the Canadian unscripted producer.

In his first leading feature role, Drew Ray Tanner (“Riverdale”) will star in “Boot Camp,” a film adaptation of the hugely popular Wattpad story by Gina Musa of the same name.

The romantic comedy tells the body-empowerment story of notoriously unathletic Whitney Carmichael, played by Rachel Boudwin, who begins to fall for her off-limits personal trainer, Axel (Tanner), after signing up for an intense summer boot camp to reinvent herself. A deepening connection inspires her to let go of the others’ expectations and, instead, find the strength to embrace her true self.

Wattpad Webtoon Studios announced that production has wrapped on “Boot Camp” after filming began in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, earlier this month. The movie does not yet have distribution deals. “Boot Camp,” which currently has over 26 million reads on Wattpad, was developed with Great Pacific Media, December Films, Junction Hammer Productions and Channel Zero Studios.
