After Venerdì 13: il terrore continua (1985), he was lined up to direct a further five movies, but they all fell through. After that he was involved in a serious bicycle accident and was unable to return to directing.

In 1985 he was hired to write and direct a sequel to L'ultima casa a sinistra (1972) for Paramount. After the film fell through, he was offered the chance to direct Venerdì 13: il terrore continua (1985) instead.

Died the same year as James Isaac, who directed the 10th Friday the 13th film, Jason X (2001).

Son of Herbert R. Steinmann.

Survived by son Robert Steinman Elden.
