He played Barry Allen / The Flash in Flash (1990) and his father Henry Allen in The Flash (2014).

His father was the Minister at Ridgecrest Baptist Church when he was attending High School in Wake Forest, NC. One night while some friends of his were visiting, gunshots were fired through the brick walls of his house. It is assumed that it was the KKK who fired the shots, because a few of those friends were African American. Shipp appeared was on the series Sisters (1991) (1994-95) as Lucky Williams.

Starred in a workshop production of David A. Gregory's new play "Hank & Jim Build a Plane", a two-hander about the friendship between Henry Fonda & James Stewart, at Le Petit Théâtre Du Vieux Carré in New Orleans in the fall of 2019. Shipp played the Fonda role.
