  • The actor Karl Schönböck entered successfully a career as a sportsman in his youth and was second in heavyweight of the boxing newcomer championship in 1926. Later he also won the West German district championship in fencing.
  • In the following decades after World War II he took part in a multitude of movies, but great variations wasn't granted to him. Besides the movies of the 60's and 70's didn't reach the quality of earlier years and Karl Schönböck acted often - besides few exceptions - in average entertainment movies.
  • He made his acting debut at the Stadttheater Meissen in 1930, it followed other engagements in Hannover, Salzburg and Berlin.
  • After the war he first gained a foothold at the theater again before the film industry recovered from the destruction.
  • Is buried next to his first wife Herta in the Munich Waldfriedhof.
  • Had one daughter, Christine (born in 1942).
  • After studying one year at the University of Vienna, he joined the Academy of Music and Performing Arts.
  • Born to Emanuel Schönbock, a Danube steamboat ship captain, and his wife Luise Bogner, he grew up in Vienna.
  • Son-in-law of Gudrun Genest, who was 5 years younger than him.
  • Grand-nephew-in-law of Hubert von Meyerinck.
  • Step-grand-nephew-in-law of Hermann Göring and his wife Emmy Göring.
  • Adept at fencing and boxing in his youth.
  • Was awarded a 'Filmband in Gold' in 1985 for Services to German Film.
  • Karl Schönböck made his film debut with "Das Mädchen Irene" (1936). Already in this movie he impersonated a Lord - a role type he played in his career over and over again.
  • He set the course of his future acting career with the study at the Academy for Music and Performing Arts.
