The Gilded Agestars Morgan Spector and Carrie Coon discuss the future of their character's marriage after another major upset.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Spector and Coon opened up about how recent developments, namely the former's George losing his right-hand in the form of Patrick Page's Richard Clay and the former's Bertha forcing their daughter into marrying someone she doesn't love, has strained their already tense relationship. "George is usually very calculating," Spector said. "In this season, we see him plowing ahead despite his better judgment, and that costs him his ally in Clay and it threatens his marriage. I don't know that George is headed in a productive direction. There's something about where he's gotten in terms of his own business success that has driven him a little crazy."
Of her character's own motives and actions, Coon explained, "Everything Bertha has done for Gladys is actually out of love.

A near death. Two shocking engagements. Sisters finally reconciling. The Gilded Age Season 3 is officially behind us, which means it's the perfect time to dive into its future Emmy chances.
Remember, the Television Academy's eligibility period runs from June 1 of one year to May 31 of the next, which means the third season of HBO's buzzy, soapy costume drama will contend at the 2026 Emmys. The eight-episode installment wrapped on Sunday to great fanfare, and a fourth season has already been ordered.
In the Season 3 finale, George Russell (Morgan Spector) survives a gunshot wound thanks to the quick work of Dr. William Kirkland (Jordan Donica), who happened to be next door visiting his love interest, Peggy Scott (Denée Benton). Despite the violence temporarily bringing George and Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon) together, he ultimately decides to separate from his wife because of the way she always puts her own interests ahead of his — i.

The Gilded Age creator Julian Fellowes, who is also responsible for bringing Downton Abbey to life, is speaking out about that upsetting season three death.
Spoilers ahead if you haven’t watched the episodes.
Keep reading to find out more…
Julian was asked about the decision to kill off Oscar’s secret lover John Adams, played by Claybourne Elder.
The death caused great turmoil and pain for Oscar (Blake Ritson), and led to a scene where he almost came out to his mother Agnes (Christine Baranski), aunt Ada (Cynthia Nixon), and cousin Marian (Louisa Jacobson).
When asked about killing off John Adams, Julian told Deadline, “Well, we wanted to explore in different ways the difficulties of being homosexual in that period when it was still illegal. And of course for me, I can remember when it was still illegal when I was young. It’s not long ago, any of this.

The Gilded Age just keeps reaching new heights as it heads toward its Season 3 finale.
The penultimate episode drew 4.6M viewers in the three days since it debuted on HBO on Sunday, setting another series record, per Warner Bros. Discovery. This is now the fourth consecutive week that the third season has managed a new series high audience.
Ahead of Sunday’s finale, the show is apparently drawing in new viewers at a record pace. The company says that The Gilded Age is currently adding viewers at a rate nearly 50% higher than in previous seasons.
Of course, newcomers are playing catch up, so much of this viewership is actually boosting the previous seasons, too. Wbd says that Season 1 viewership was up approximately 30% last week compared to the same week leading into last season’s Episode 7.
This bodes incredibly well for the show’s fourth season, as it has already received a renewal from HBO.

HBO Max acknowledged The Gilded Age's Spanish language glitch with a hilarious online response. Viewers were left perplexed on Sunday, August 3, when they tuned in to The Gilded Age season 3, episode 7, "Ex-Communicated," only to find the show broadcasting in Spanish. Many flocked to social media, wondering why The Gilded Age season 3's penultimate episode suddenly resembled a telenovela.

For a number of viewers, The Gilded Age looked — or rather, sounded — a little different last night.
According to some social media users, the latest episode of the Emmy-winning HBO period drama debuted on streamer HBO Max with an accidental language swap that automatically played the episode in Spanish despite being on the English-language setting.
“. @hbomax The Gilded Age is currently only playing in Spanish on my app and I cannot follow what is happening to Señora Russell. Help! Ayuda!” wrote The Daily Beast’s Kevin Fallon in one viral post.
The glitch, as some quickly figured out, was easily resolved by tooling with the platform’s settings — ironically, by changing the audio to “Spanish (Latin America)” for the English version. Deadline confirmed that the issue has since been resolved.
Earlier today, both the platform and star Carrie Coon poked fun at the snafu online.

Yes, Sunday’s episode of The Gilded Age ended on a dramatic (and potentially fatal) note for a key member of the show’s cast — but that’s actually not the heartbreaking storyline we’d like to discuss right now.
Instead, we need to talk about Oscar, who discovered that his lover John Adams left him a house upstate, following his own tragic death by speeding horse carriage. When he returned home in a puddle of grief, he lashed out at Agnes, essentially outing himself in the process. Here was their exchange:

The Gilded Agestar Christine Baranski explains her character's reaction to a major Season 3 development.

"She finally has to admit something that she never wanted to even consider because it's so taboo," Baranski said. "It would be so horrifying to her. And yet, when he plays out that scene and goes up the stairs a broken man, it's heartbreaking for me to realize that he can't speak to me about it"
Baranski added, "She's so far from her own child in terms of understanding and empathizing. It is just the horror of it — he has lived with this probably his whole life, and I can never speak to him about it." Regarding the emotional weight of the scene itself, which hinges not only on Agnes...

The seventh episode of The Gilded Age‘s third season, titled “Ex-Communicated,” literally ended with a bang. Somebody shot George Russell. Or at him. Viewers aren’t sure, as we saw a bullet headed for George and then the screen went black.

As harrowing as the prospect of losing George (spectacularly portrayed by Morgan Spector) is, a lot happened in this episode. The following reveals major plot points from tonight’s episode of HBO’s The Gilded Age, “Ex-Communicated.”
The Gilded Age has always kept viewers in the loop about Oscar van Rhijn’s (Blake Ritson) sexuality; however, his family is another matter.
In last week’s episode, Oscar’s former lover and friend, John Adams (Claybourne Elder), was tragically killed after a runaway horse and carriage accidentally ran him over. It was a heartbreaking and shocking moment for Oscar and viewers of the series, which is not known for killing people off like many other shows.
Oscar is dealing with extreme grief in “Ex-Communicated” and trying his hardest to seem as minimally affected as possible in an attempt to hide what John really meant to him. He leaves home as normal, with his mother Agnes van Rhijn (Christine Baranski), aunt Ada Forte (Cynthia Nixon), and cousin Marian Brook (Louisa Jacobson) seeing him off.

It’s hard to believe The Gilded Age is winding down. The latest episode “If You Want to Cook an Omelette” is number six of just eight, yet the drama is not de-escalating — only revving up, especially with the just-in news of a season four renewal.

After a shocking twist to end Season 3, Episode 6, The Gilded Age star Ben Ahlers addressed whether he and his Jack character will be leaving the hit HBO period drama. Ahlers' Jack first came onto the scene as the footman of the Van Rhijns (led by Blake Ritson's Oscar Van Rhijn), serving as key hired help for one of the show's central New York families. However, Jack's fortunes changed in the show's most recent season, as Ahlers' character took his future into his own hands with a clever new invention.
Jack's story came to a head in Season 3, Episode 6 (subtitled "If You Want to Cook an Omelette"). After selling his clock invention for a lofty sum of $300,000 in Episode 4, a total that in 2025 dollars would be over $9.5 million, Jack was pushed from the Van Rhijn house. This left the character and the actor's future on the series somewhat in question.

This post contains spoilers from The Gilded Age season 3 episode 6 from this point forward.
Never underestimate how quickly things can change in a week, especially on the small screen. It was just one week ago that I was celebrating the engagement of Marian and Larry, but The Gilded Age season 3 episode 6 brought that excitement crumbling down before our feet with one particular discovery. Their happily ever after might no longer be in the cards after this week's developments.
Let's start there before we get into the most shocking aspect of the episode, which arrived at the end and unexpectedly killed a supporting character. Anyway, Marian learned the truth about Larry's whereabouts on the night of their engagement. She believed he was at a business dinner, as he had told her, but when she finds out he was at the haymarket, she assumes the worst from him.

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for The Gilded Age Season 3 Episode 6.] Everything is changing in The Gilded Age, and not just for Gladys Russell (Taissa Farmiga). While the young duchess was visited by mother Bertha (Carrie Coon) in England in The Gilded Age Season 3 Episode 6 on Sunday, July 27, on HBO, her old neighbors on 61st Street experienced another seismic shift in the household for both the upstairs and downstairs families. In the video interview above, Ben Ahlers, who plays Jack Trotter, breaks down the episode and what’s next for Jack — and reacts to the shocking way the episode ended for Oscar (Blake Ritson) in this season that keeps ramping up the stakes. Jack and Larry Russell (Harry Richardson) were wildly successful in the sale of Jack’s clock design. They were each paid $300,000 for the buyout, which in the 1880s equated to millions. Jack is now nearly as rich as Ada Forte (Cynthia Nixon), his employer,...

The Gilded Agehas topped the streaming charts all over again.
Per Flix Patrol, The Gilded Age has once again reached the top of the streaming chart for HBO. The series has blown past competition such as the hit comedy drama And Just Like That..., fan-favorite late-night satirical news show Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, and the recently released J. J. Abrams crime thriller, Duster.
Created by Julian Fellowes, who co-writes the series alongside Sonja Warfield, The Gilded Age is set during the eponymous era of late 1900s luxury in New York City. The Gilded Age largely follows Louisa Jacobson's Marian Brook, a poor young woman who is forced to live with her estranged aunts and subsequently thrust into the world of "new money" extravagance and "old money" conflicts. The series features a star-studded ensemble cast including Carrie Coon, Morgan Spector, Harry Richardson, Simon Jones, Cynthia Nixon, Donna Murphy,...

[This story contains spoilers form The Gilded Age season three premiere, “Who Is in Charge Here?”]
A year and a half since its season two finale, HBO’s hit drama The Gilded Age returned on Sunday without missing a beat. Picking up right where it left off, episode one appropriately asked, “Who Is in Charge Here?” Until now, the answer had been an easy one for spectacular sisterly duo Agnes van Rhijn and the former Ada Brook, splendidly portrayed by Christine Baranski and Cynthia Nixon. For much of the series, Agnes, as both the older and wealthier sister, called the shots. That dynamic shifted at the end of last season.
In a ploy to hide his homosexuality, Oscar (Blake Ritson), Agnes’ only child, squandered his mother’s wealth pursuing a marriage with Maud Beaton. Just as the family, which also includes Agnes and Ada’s niece, Marian Brook, was packing up their treasured 61st Street mansion for sale,...

“The Gilded Age” returned for its third season in the midst of big changes, with a few big twists that are sure to leave New York society talking.
The Season 3 premiere, titled “Who Is in Charge Here?,” followed as the Russell and Van Rhijn households endured the last snowfall of the season before spring as both families grappled with shifting dynamics. Though preparations for the season ahead, and a contested meeting about the temperance movement orbited the episode’s happenings, it was the relationships between the HBO drama series’ beloved ensemble that took center stage.
“We’ve shown the balls and the operas and the blah, blah, blah, but now this is the men and women dealing with how they feel about each other,” series creator Julian Fellowes told TheWrap. “We are, in a way, using this season to...
