Danny DeVito Confirmed to Appear As Unky Herb in ‘Simpsons’ Season Premiere
Image
Hide your discarded pizza boxes — Unky Herb is coming back to Springfield.

Back in February 1991, Danny DeVito showed up to The Simpsons, and, as he loves to do, delivered arguably the show’s greatest all-time guest performance. In “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?” DeVito played Homer’s wealthy and magnanimous automobile magnate half-brother Herb Powell who was mercifully unencumbered by the stupefying “Simpsons gene” — that is, until he let his “everyman” brother design a car that destroyed Herb’s career and his fortune faster than you could honk “La Cucaracha.”

Late last month, The Simpsons producers announced that the upcoming premiere of Season 36, which will air on Fox this September 29th, will feature a star-studded list of celebrity guests that includes former superstar Simpsons writer Conan O’Brien, national Dad Tom Hanks and DeVito, who has lent his voice acting talents to the role of Herb in three Simpsons episodes in the last 33 years.

Danny DeVito Returning to The Simpsons for Season 36 Premiere
Image
Simpsons fans rejoice! It appears that a beloved character from years past, voiced by Danny DeVito, is returning to the show for the season premiere on September 29. This will mark the 36th season of the long-running animated series which began back in 1989, and has somehow managed to stand the test of time thanks to its ability to adapt throughout the years. Providing relevant social commentary on a weekly basis, audiences cant help but tune in to find out what kind of trouble the residents of Springfield will find themselves in next.

Per NME, Danny DeVito will be returning to The Simpsons to voice the character of Herb Powell. Herb is Homers half-brother who first appeared in the season 2 episode "O Brother Where Art Thou," and again in the Season 3 episode "Brother, Can You Spare Some Change." He made his last appearance in Season 24, but that was a decade ago, and Herb hasnt been seen since.

The Simpsons Bringing Back Major Guest Star 33 Years After Character's Introduction
Image
A Simpson family member who hasn't been seen on The Simpsons in many years is coming back for an upcoming episode. After first guest starring on the show in 1991, Danny DeVito will be returning in the upcoming 36th season.

During the show's second season, DeVito voiced the role of Homer's long-lost brother, Herb Powell, the the classic episode, "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?" At San Diego Comic-Con, series writer and producer Michael Price let it slip during an interview with the Four Finger Discount podcast that DeVito would be guest-starring in the upcoming Season 36 premiere of the long-running series, titled "Bart's Birthday." Price hinted that DeVito would be playing "a character that he has previously played on the show."

Dispatches From The Picket Lines, Day 32: A Congresswoman Joins The Fray Outside Sony, Chris Keyser Pickets Disney, David Milch Hits Fox – Plus Bagels From Snoop & Dre
Image
WGA negotiating committee co-chair Chris Keyser issued a clarion call to members and supporters earlier today.

“When you walk in circles in front of every studio in town,” he tells the guild’s members in the clip (watch it below), “you are carrying with you a cause that is larger than just us and this business, though just us and this business would have been enough. We are marching for labor, and labor is watching us.”

Not long after, Keyser put those ideas into action, taking to the picket lines outside Disney alongside writer Will Landman and, according to Landman, a very nice Bradley Whitford.

Did a couple hours at Disney this morning to close out the week! Went to tell Chris Keyser I loved his update video and didn’t realize he was chatting with @BradleyWhitford – who is just the nicest! Great way to close out another week on the picket!

‘F is for Family’ Says Farewell
Image
Photo: ‘F is for Family’ Introduction ‘F is for Family’, created by Michael Price and Bill Burr, is underrated. The series, which first aired in 2015, was unfairly labeled by many as a “ ‘Family Guy’ knock-off” due to its use of profanity and for some of its character designs. While the series may have been unfairly judged upon release, ‘F is for Family’ proved to be a humorous and even profound portrayal of American life throughout its five-season run. The series follows the dysfunctional Murphy family in the nineteen seventies. Now, after almost six years, ‘F is for Family’ is coming to end with forty-four episodes under its belt. In its last season, the series nicely wraps up its storylines and themes, satisfying both fans and newcomers. Frank (voiced by Bill Burr) will continue dealing with the relationship with his father (Jonathan Banks) as he’s also going through becoming a father again with the arrival of his fourth child. Vince Vaughn to Produce Animated Comedy Series in Development at Fox (Exclusive)

Vince Vaughn is attached to executive produce an animated comedy series in the works at Fox, Variety has learned exclusively.

Fox has given Vaughn, Victoria Vaughn, and Peter Billingsly’s Wild West Picture Show production company a blind script deal for an animated series. No writer is currently attached, but Fox Entertainment will produce. Vince, Victoria, and Billingsly will all executive produce.

Should the project go to series, it would be the second animated series that Wild West Picture Show has produced. The company is also behind the Netflix animated series “F Is for Family.” That show, which was created by Bill Burr and Michael Price, follows an Irish-American family in the 1970s. The fourth season was released on Netflix back in June. Vaughn also guest starred in the show in its third season.

In addition to his work as a producer, Vaughn is primarily known for his work onscreen.

‘Why Women Kill’ Team Breaks Down the Finale’s Murderous Montage
Image
CBS All Access’ “Why Women Kill” set its first-season action in three distinct time periods: the 1960s, 1980s and present-day, promising a titular payoff in each time period by the end of the season. In the finale, titled “Kill Me as If It Were the Last Time,” creator and showrunner Marc Cherry crafted an intricate slow-motion montage that weaved the pivotal deaths together across timelines. While the Pasadena mansion had previously been the only character that carried over from storyline to storyline, this montage saw all the central characters sharing the same space. Although it was staged like a play, it was not done entirely in one shot; director David Warren covered individual pieces and performers in closeup, with their period-accurate set dressing behind them. The sequence includes a tango, a tussle on the staircase and a fistfight that turns into a gun showdown — and, of course, the answers to...

‘F Is For Family’ Season 4 Takes a Hard Look at Bad Dads, Just in Time for Father’s Day
Image
Despite a proliferation of “timely” TV these days, no one would be so bold as to bestow “F Is For Family” with the popular descriptor. Created by Michael Price and Bill Burr — the latter of whom also voices the lead character, Frank Murphy — Netflix’s adult, animated sitcom follows a lower-middle class family struggling to make the best of it in 1970s America. The Murphys are white, racism and misogyny run rampant in their daily lives, and most of the ongoing story circles around Frank, a member of middle-management at a failing airline and father of three, going on four, children.

Frank alternates between a lifelong Rodney Dangerfield bit (“Why can’t I get no respect?!”) and answering his own question through bad, embarrassing behavior. But “F Is For Family” doesn’t glorify any of Frank’s antics; it ruthlessly examines his tortured growth. Its satire is pointed directly at its central figure,...

The 5 Most Anticipated Returning TV Shows In June Are All On Netflix
Image
Netflix‘s dominance of the streaming market looks set to continue in June, with the platform bringing back a number of series for summer runs. Using the tracking app TV Time, Business Insider can look at audience data to identify what the most anticipated returning shows are and perhaps unsurprisingly, Netflix has the top five nailed down, including new seasons for German-language hit Dark, F is for Family, The Politician, The Order and 13 Reasons Why.

In order of popularity, season 4 of animated series F is for Family is the fifth most-anticipated, having built a solid audience for its 1970s-set comedy. Bill Burr and Michael Price created this one, which includes voice performances by Burr, Laura Dern, Justin Long, Sam Rockwell and more great actors. We were big fans of the show when it first debuted on Netflix, so it’s good to see that it’s continued to be a success.

‘F Is for Family’ Season 4 Trailer Promises Cocaine, Broken Teeth and Frodo Baggins
Image
I don't watch a ton of animated TV shows, so I'm hardly qualified to make this statement, but Bill Burr's Netflix series F Is for Family is the best animated show on TV. The streamer just released the Season 4 trailer, and while the dysfunction hasn't changed, a new wrinkle has been introduced in the form of Frank's estranged father. Burr created F is for Family with Emmy winner Michael Price, and the show takes place in the '70s, when political correctness was something to laugh in, and smoking was still allowed indoors. ‘F Is for Family’ Season 4 Trailer: More Hijinks as the Murphys Prep for a New Addition
Image
Netflix’s favorite foul-mouthed family has returned with the new trailer for Season 4 of “F Is for Family.” The series, created by Bill Burr and Michael Price, has set up the arrival of a new bundle of joy for the Murphy’s and the arrival of Frank’s father William “Big Bill” Murphy (voiced by Jonathan Banks.)

As the first trailer shows, family patriarch Frank Murphy, voiced by Burr himself, is “still alive” and struggling not just with the new baby and the return of a father he hates. He also has to navigate three children in various states of becoming their own people. Oldest son Kevin (voiced by Justin Long) finds himself drawn to a girl with similar tastes as him; and youngest children Bill (voiced by Haley Reinhart) and Maureen (voiced by Debi Derryberry) find themselves trying to garner attention with the men in their lives.

F is for Family Season 4 Trailer and Release Date
F (2010)
F is for Family Season 4 is coming soon to Netflix.

The animated sitcom, set in the U.S. suburbs in the 1970s, brandishes adult-themes that render it not quite fit for primetime network television. Yet, its driving force has been its central character, irascible family man and Korean War veteran, Frank Murphy, a La-z-Boy-riding bell-bottom-era bygone generational mouthpiece for the PC-pulverizing rants of comedian Bill Burr; a character who could be described as an animated amalgam of Archie Bunker and Al Bundy.

Burr co-created F is for Family with Michael Price, a writer and co-executive producer on Fox’s The Simpsons and Lego Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles and Lego Star Wars: Droid Tales. Along with the creative duo, the show’s array of executive producers consists of Vince Vaughn, Peter Billingsley, Katie O’Connell, Elisa Todd Ellis, Sidonie Dumas and Christophe Riandee.

A 30th Anniversary Present for ‘The Simpsons’ With 11th Outstanding Animated Program Emmy Win
Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Dan Castellaneta, and Yeardley Smith in I Simpson (1989)
The Simpsons, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, got a tribute to its longevity by taking the Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program for the episode “Mad About The Toy” at the Creative Arts Emmys tonight. It’s the show’s 11th win in the category, expanding its record haul and widening the gap with the rest of the field. The animated series with the second most wins is South Park with 5.

The Simpsons proved its mettle against a much-ballyhooed episode of Bojack Horseman, “Free Churro,” in which BoJack, voiced by Will Arnett, delivers a bizarre, rambling eulogy for his mother that lasts the entire episode. Arnett had joked several times at near the beginning of the telecast that BoJack would surely be walking away with an Emmy.

The other competitors were Bob’s Burgers, Big Mouth, and Come Along With Me, the series finale of Adventure Time. The Simpsons’ win...

‘The Simpsons’ Wins Emmy for Best Animated Program
Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright, Dan Castellaneta, and Yeardley Smith in I Simpson (1989)
“The Simpsons” has won the 2019 Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program. It marks the eleventh win in this category for the Fox comedy.

Created by Matt Groening, “The Simpsons” is the all-time record holder in the category for nominations and wins. It has 27 nominations — 10 more than “South Park,” which is second on the list — and this year’s win gives it more than double the Comedy Central series, which has five total wins.

This year, “The Simpsons” was nominated for two Emmys: Outstanding Animated Program and Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance, the latter of which it lost to another Fox comedy, “Family Guy.” (Seth MacFarlane took home his fifth Emmy in 23 nominations.) Other nominees for Best Animated Program included “BoJack Horseman,” “Bob’s Burgers,” “Big Mouth,” and “Come Along With Me,” the series finale of “Adventure Time.”

A Dog Saves The Day In “Patrick”
Dog movies almost always want to make you cry. The ones that just want to make you smile are few and far between. That’s usually the case with pet centric flicks, which is good for emotion, but sometimes rough for animal lovers like yours truly. It’s nice on occasion to not go into a film with a canine companion and have to fret about an impending death. Luckily, one look at Patrick, the new dog centric comedy, and your heart will melt without ever reducing you to tears. It’s far from perfect, but it’s more than cute enough to be worthy of a recommendation. The movie is a comedy about how a dog ends up leading a young woman to happiness. At the beginning, Sarah Francis (Beattie Edmondson) has a life that could charitably be called an absolute mess. After the death of her grandmother, for...

Film Review: ‘Patrick’
There’s no denying that “Patrick” is absolutely adorable. When a story revolves around a four-legged furry friend — a squishy, huggable pug, at that — that much is to be expected. However, what makes director Mandie Fletcher’s canine-centered romantic comedy work is its ability to engage in between the oh-so-cute closeups of the bug-eyed pup. Though the narrative tends to be a touch too simplistic for most grown-ups, and lacks enough riotous dog action for the little ones, there’s enough bite to make things worthwhile for those who just want to enjoy a sweet, wholesome dog movie.

Sarah’s (Beattie Edmondson) life is in shambles. Her boyfriend has just left her stranded in a new apartment without knowing a soul in the neighborhood. Her entire family thinks she’s turning into a spinster since all her romantic relationships end in woe. She’s depressed and questioning what love has in store for her.

F is for Family Season 4 Renewal Confirmed by Netflix
Joseph Baxter Jan 24, 2019

Netflix’s adult-aimed animated family comedy, F is for Family, is officially set to return for a filthy fourth season.

F is for Family Season 4 has received the official greenlight by Netflix.

The animated sitcom, set in the U.S. suburbs in the 1970s, brandishes adult-themes that render it not quite fit for primetime network television. Yet, its driving force has been its central character, irascible family man and Korean War veteran, Frank Murphy, a La-z-Boy-riding bell-bottom-era bygone generational mouthpiece for the PC-pulverizing rants of comedian Bill Burr; a character that could be described as an animated amalgam of Archie Bunker and Al Bundy.

Burr co-created F is for Family with Michael Price, a writer and co-executive producer on Fox’s The Simpsons and Lego Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles and Lego Star Wars: Droid Tales. Along with the creative duo, the show’s array of...

The third season launched on Netflix in November.

Burr also executive produces along with Vince Vaughn, Peter Billingsley and Price, who also serves as showrunner. Michael Lagnese and Victoria Vaughn from Wild West Television are co-executive producers on the series. Vaughn also lent his voice to the show in Season 3. Netflix also currently has several of Burr’s comedy specials available, including “I’m Sorry You Feel That Way” and “Walk Your Way Out,” the latter of which debuted...
