Tubi confirmed that Community will begin streaming on its free-of-charge service on Mar. 1. This is good news for fans of the hit series who aren't Peacock subscribers as the show has been available on the NBCUniversal streamer since last April. Nickelodeon has announced the addition of Modern Family, the 22-time Emmy Award-winning acclaimed comedy series, to its Nick at Nite programming lineup beginning Monday, September 9. All 11 seasons of Modern Family will debut in Nickelodeon’s nighttime programming block and air daily from 2-4 a.m. (Et/Pt).

The series joins a stellar roster of popular family comedies, including Emmy Award-winning shows Friends, Mike & Molly, and Mom, as well as beloved sitcoms Young Sheldon and The Neighborhood, and marks the first time the sitcom will air within Paramount’s family of brands.

Ronny Chieng’s Hulu comedy pilot is not being picked up to series at the streaming service, Variety has learned.

The untitled pilot saw Chieng star the newly-hired general manager of the Brooklyn Nets. It was inspired by real-life Nets owner Joe Tsai. Variety exclusively reported the pilot was in the works in May 2022.

Little was announced about the pilot beyond the initial report, but sources say Chieng co-wrote the pilot with Jon Pollack. Both also served as executive producers along with Melvin Mar, Jake Kasdan, and Hannah Pham. Greg Mottola directed the pilot. 20th Television was the studio, with Mar and Kasdan under an overall deal at 20th TV via The Detective Agency. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, 20th TV and the producers plan to shop the project to other outlets.

Updated with launch taking effect. Modern Family, which wrapped its highly decorated, 11-season network run last year, is embarking on a significant new streaming chapter via a shared deal with Peacock and Hulu.

Starting today, all 250 episodes of the Emmy-laden sitcom are available on both services after years of only having a limited batch of episodes on Hulu.

Indications from the deal announcement on January 26 are that the go-go streaming market remains in full effect. Sources familiar with the terms said the multi-year acquisition price stretched well into nine figures, consistent with healthy rates for recent half-hours such as Friends, The Office and Seinfeld. Prices have been driven steadily higher by the entry of several new billion-dollar players into the streaming fray in the past year.

Trevor Noah is staying in the Viacom family for his next creative endeavor, an untitled feature film with Paramount Animation, Variety has learned exclusively.

The untitled project is based on an original idea from Noah. The plot is under wraps but is said to be timely, poignant and comedic. Jonathan Groff (“Black-ish”) and Jon Pollack (“Modern Family”) are set to write the script. Noah will produce via his Day Zero Productions, with his president of production Haroon Saleem.

Norman Aladjem, Derek Van Pelt and Sanaz Yamin will also serve as producers via Mainstay Entertainment.

Noah, who began in stand-up, rose to fame as the host of “The Daily Show” on Comedy Central. The comedy-news hybrid has found new resonance amid the pandemic and social unrest of 2020.

The deal marks the first time that all 250 episodes of “Modern Family” will be available to stream. During its run, Hulu had next-day rights to the series, which is produced by 20th Studios. Disney owns both the studio and Hulu.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Peacock will offer the series in a similar fashion as “The Office.” The first 12 episodes of Season 1 of “Modern Family” will be on the streaming service’s free tier, with the rest behind the paywall, which can cost between $4.99 and $9.99 a month. Comcast and Cox subscribers get the premium tier included in their TV packages.

NBCUniversal has cable TV syndication rights, airing episodes on USA Network.

ABC has given a pilot production commitment to Happy Accident, a single-camera family comedy from Modern Family writers Abraham Higginbotham and Jon Pollack, 20th Century Fox TV, where both Higginbotham and Pollack are under overall deals, and ABC Studios.

The project originated as a spec script developed in house at 20th TV, which will now co-produce with soon-to-be corporate sibling ABC Studios. A director and casting director will be named shortly with the intent to start casting immediately and production expected to begin early in the upcoming pilot season.

ABC is getting an early jump on pilot season.

The network has handed out a formal pilot order to the single-camera comedy Happy Accident, from two key writers on ABC's Modern Family.

The project revolves around two Pittsburgh families — a father with three adult daughters and a hotel lounge singer with a medical student son — who are forced together after a decades-old secret is revealed.

Now that Halloween is out of the way (any candy left? mail it to us!) it's time to get serious about holiday programming. For some people "holiday" may suggest Christmas, but nobody puts Thanksgiving in the corner. Less animation, plenty of reality, and another two-hour comedy block reduced — those are some of the quick take-aways from Fox’s 2014 fall schedule announcement.

First up: On Mondays, the network will launch perhaps fall’s most-anticipated new drama, the Batman prequel series Gotham at 8 p.m. followed by the sophomore return of Sleepy Hollow at 9 p.m. Fox has ordered 16 episodes of Gotham and 18 episodes of Sleepy Hollow. It is becoming an annual tradition: after pilots are shot and delivered, there is a scramble to find showrunners. More and more newly picked up series are in a need of a seasoned showrunner every year. Yesterday, NBC picked up four pilots to series. Half of them, dramas Allegiance and State Of Affairs, don’t have a showrunner. Similarly, Fox picked up three pilots to series and ordered 10 more episodes for comedy Mulaney. Of the four also half, drama Empire and comedy Mulaney, have required a showrunner hire. All four were were picked up to series without a showrunner locked in. Mulaney, which was ordered to series with a six-episode order in October, has since tapped veteran Jon Pollack for the job, working with creator-star John Mulaney. I hear Patrick Massett and John Zinman had been approached for Allegiance, written-directed by George Nolfi, Tom Szentgyorgyi is eyed for State Of Affairs...

Fox has ordered 10 more episodes for their upcoming ensemble comedy, Mulaney. Starring comic John Mulaney, it started as an NBC project but they passed so Fox took it for redevelopment. Back in October, the network gave the show a straight-to-series order with a six episode commitment. Martin Short also stars.

Exclusive: ABC has put in development Every Other Saturday, a single-camera comedy from British writer Neil Forsyth, Jon Pollack (Go On, 30 Rock), Amblin Television and Universal TV. It revolves around a good-hearted yet multiply flawed father trying to win over his son after a divorce, despite only having custody every other Saturday. The show was created by Forsyth, whom Amblin found in the UK and brought to the States. The company developed Every Other Saturday internally before introducing Forsyth to Pollack, with whom Amblin TV toppers Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey previously worked on another ABC/DreamWorks TV comedy series, Spin City. After finding mainstream success as a cast member on Arrested Development, Will Arnett has become a television comedy mainstay in recent years. Even after Arrested Development was cancelled at the end of season 3 (it has since been picked up for season 4, which will air on Netflix) Arnett has made numerous guest appearances and in 2011 scooped up a leading role as Chris Brinkley on NBC’s Up All Night.

However, after just two and a half seasons, Up All Night appears to be in danger of getting axed. The original showrunner, Jon Pollack, departed the series last year and creator as well as executive producer Emily Spivey also called it quits as of a month ago. Exclusive: We will get a glimpse of what a multi-camera Up All Night would look like after all. I have learned that NBC plans to film one multi-camera episode of the sophomore comedy without star Christina Applegate, who departed the series on Friday. I hear the episode will be directed by master multi-camera helmer James Burrows, who is doing three pilots this season. When NBC in October decided to turn softly rated single-camera comedy Up All Night into multi-camera, the network ordered five episodes to be shot in front of a live audience. That order has now been cut to one. It is unclear whether Applegate will be replaced; there had been rumors that NBC was eying other actresses, including Friends alumna Lisa Kudrow. The future of Up All Night is still up in the air while co-stars Will Arnett and Maya Rudolph are getting pilot offers. NBC had no comment.

It hasn't been a good week for NBC. They had to cancel Do No Harm after two disastrously low rated episodes. And now, they've lost one of the stars of Up All Night, Christina Applegate.

Back in May, despite low ratings, NBC decided to renew Up All Night for a second season. Unfortunately, the ratings have gotten even worse in season two. In October, in a last ditch effort to save the sitcom, the peacock network announced plans to rework the series -- transforming it from a single-camera comedy to a traditional multi-camera sitcom.

With five episodes remaining in its 16 episode season, Up All Night went on a three month hiatus while sets and other elements were reworked.

Change is certainly not new for the sitcom. Original showrunner Jon Pollack left the series last May and was replaced by Tucker...

According to Deadline, the actress is leaving the sophomore NBC comedy, which is produced by Lorne Michaels. “It’s been a great experience working on 'Up All Night,' but the show has taken a different creative direction and I decided it was best for me to move on to other endeavors,” Applegate said in a statement. “Working with Lorne Michaels has been a dream come true and I am grateful he brought me into his TV family. I will miss the cast, producers and crew, and wish them the best always.”

Deadline reports that NBC is looking to proceed with the series and could be looking to "Friends" alumna Lisa Kudrow to replace Applegate.

Exclusive: As NBC‘s sophomore comedy Up All Night transitions from a single- to multi-camera format, it will do so without the series creator/executive producer Emily Spivey, who has departed the show. There has been a lot of behind-the-scenes turnover on the series starring Christina Applegate, Will Arnett and Maya Rudolph since May when original showruuner Jon Pollack left. He was replaced by Tucker Cawley who, in turn, was replaced by Linda Wallem when NBC decided to revamp Up All Night as a multi-camera comedy after 11 softly rated episodes of Season 2. Along with the format switch, Up All Night will undergo creative changes, including in the balance between family and workplace comedy, that are still being worked out. In its original incarnation, Up All Night was a family comedy about new parents played by Applegate and Arnett, which was inspired by Spivey’s real-life experiences of going back to work soon after giving birth.

NBC employed the novel strategy of airing the "Go On" pilot not once, but three times, before the show's official, time-period premiere Tuesday night (Sept. 11). So now that you've finally seen a second episode, what's your verdict?

As with a lot of new shows and new comedies in particular, "Go On" still feels like a work in progress. Being honest about the losses its characters have suffered while still getting laughs out of how they handle it is a tricky thing. So far, the show seems to be walking the line pretty well, and it's made a wise decision in not trying to hook up Matthew Perry's and Laura Benanti's characters too quickly -- even if the laws of television dictate that they're headed toward that point somewhere down the road.

The pilot for "Go On" has now aired three times -- a highly rated preview during NBC's Olympics coverage in August, plus two repeats that have pulled in decent numbers.

Tuesday (Sept. 11), viewers will at last get to see the show's second episode, in which Ryan (Matthew Perry) continues to be frustrated at the way therapy group leader Lauren (Laura Benanti) runs their sessions. One thing you won't see, though -- at least not for quite a while -- is a budding romance between Lauren and Ryan. Or so Benanti hopes.

"I think we have to be really careful, because he's just lost his wife," Benanti tells Zap2it about the relationship between Lauren and Ryan, who's reluctantly attending therapy to help cope with his wife's death a month before the show begins. "I certainly don't want the audience to be like, 'Whoa, his therapist is making moves on him right after his wife died.
