With over 600 confirmed film appearances over a 35 year span, Lee is near the top of the list of Hollywood's most prolific but virtually unknown supporting players.

He appeared in four Best Picture Academy Award winners, the last two of which were in consecutive years: Grand Hotel (1932), Il paradiso delle fanciulle (1936), L'eterna illusione (1938) and Via col vento (1939). Lionel Barrymore also appeared in both of the first two films.

Along with appearing in four Oscar Best Picture winners, he also appeared in nine other Best Picture nominees: La divorziata (1930), Il campione (1931), Lady Lou - La donna fatale (1933), L'uomo ombra (1934), È nata una stella (1937), Scandalo a Filadelfia (1940), Un evaso ha bussato alla porta (1942), Due marinai e una ragazza (1945) and Il padre della sposa (1950).
