- After an accident on a Cinecittà set, he died of a heart attack during his medical repatriation by plane from Rome to Paris. According to Jean-Pierre Léaud, Pierre Kast, an alcoholic, tore out his perfusion tubes.
- As a member of the magazine Cahiers du cinéma in the 1950s, Kast created many short films and documentaries. He also served as a critic for the magazine.
- Also a screenwriter and assistant director, notably to Jean Grémillon whose work he particularly admired, he was assistant to Jean Renoir in 1955 on the filming of French Cancan.
- Prior to his work in film, Kast was a resistance activist in World War II, opposing the Vichy regime as a member of the Communist Students of Paris.
- Pierre Kast was a French screenwriter, film and television director, and freedom fighter.
