However, he soon comes to the realization that his innocence means less than how much bribe money he's able to come up with for his release. It becomes apparent that Kohei is going to have to get to know his fellow inmates a little better, as he's obviously in this situation for the long haul; but meeting a female inmate from a nearby jail certainly makes his transition to the criminal life a little easier to take.
- Kaede is the mistress of a wealthy merchant. When he dies, she is forced out on the street and forced to give up her young daughter to the merchant's family. The film opens with her working in a high-class brothel abutting Tokyo Bay.
- When it comes to Ken Matsudaira's Benkei, the one that stands out in memory is from the 2005 NHK Taiga drama "Yoshitsune". However, this production was a New Year's special that aired in 1997, produced by Toei, and directed by veteran filmmaker Akira Inoue, who had worked for Daiei. It has a strong entertainment flavor fitting for a New Year's production, and can be enjoyed by people of all ages and genders. The performances of the supporting cast, such as Koutaro Satomi and Makoto Fujita, are also noteworthy.

Okino opts to pack it up and return to her village in retirement. She needs a plan to escape her life however. She recruits a poor toy-maker and an actor and they set out for her hometown. The three companions experience adventure, hardship and fun en route.
