Nick Slaughter, a former RCMP and DEA agent, who had left the company after being fired from his job, moves to the Florida town of Key Mariah to set up a detective service.

Candles in the Dark is the story of a girl who comes to visit her father's homeland, the Soviet Republic of Estonia. After she arrives, she finds that her father is part of the dissident anti-soviet underground. She soon find her self engulfed in the struggle with her father and a lot of new friends, and finds herself being hunted by the KGB.

A couple filing for divorce hires Nick and Sylvie separately. The husband hires Sylvie to prove his wife's infidelity, while the wife hires Nick to prove her husband's infidelity.

An eyewitness falls for Nick when he stops an armed robbery at a store. She decides to help him identify the robber she saw fleeing from the store. There's just one problem - she might be seeing things.

Nick is hired to find a woman who got hold of a new deadly drug. As his search progresses, Nick begins to wonder if he was actually hired to find the drug itself.
