Summer of 1939. The outbreak of war in Europe is drawing ever closer, but Sally Bauer cannot tear herself away from the sea and her longing to cross the English Channel.

During the course of one summer's day, nine people either dreaming of life or escaping from it, plus one dog on the loose, either encounter, pass by or collide with one another on a certain road. After having come face-to-face with the randomness of life, they each awaken to appreciate the value and strength in their own limited existence.
