In December 1981, zealous Catholic Marianna decides to use a family celebration, the baptism of the newest grandson, to reconcile her children who have been quarreling for years. General Jaruzelski unexpectedly prevents this by declaring martial law that day. Determined to reunite her family, Marianna decides to hide the truth about the situation in the country from her children. This seemingly-small lie triggers an avalanche of unexpected events that will be difficult to stop.

A man with an enigmatic look arrives at a town called Ederly. "Ederly is not only the name of the town, it has a deeper meaning", the visitor is told.
