Pluribus 2026
A sci fi series of sorts.....
When it comes to choosing my tv series of the year, Off the top of my head, best TV ," Death of Bunny Munro", followed at the opposite end of the entertainment spectrum Pluribus.
One is an hedonistic ****fest full of emotional heart breaking scenes, the other is just heart-breaking and highlights in almost finite detail how alone we all are, so when I say the entertainment spectrum I mean on a cerebral level.
Pluribus is a rare beast in that, a lesser writer director than Vince Gilligan would have condensed 8 hours into a 1 1/2 hour movie. But it wouldn't t have done it any justice what so ever. It's pace and let's face it lack of action make the series, the telephone messages left by the "hive mind" is repeated time and time again.... it needs that to highlight the emotionless and soulless world Carol finds herself.
Each episode does leave you wanting more. More of what is hard to explain, sadly with 99% of American tv series once you know they have a new series, you know if able they would drag it out.
Great thoughtful TV . 8/10.

Springsteen, Deliver me from Nowhere 2025.
A biopic of Springsteen's difficult gestation of his back to basics Nebraska album . The record company wanted the River part two or the epic sounding Burn to Run to be released.
What we get is Bruce struggling with his own demons, a fictitious relationship with single mom Faye is used as a metaphor of his need to move on from his own demons both emotionally and musically. Stephen Graham plays his abusive father and an utterly wasted. We don't get any semblance of the terrors Bruce faced as a child.
Let's face it Bruce is dull, down to earth and if he wasn't a musician he wouldn't warrant a movie.
Back to Nebraska. Bruce is clearing his archives he's just released a multi disc boxset of demos, ideas, seeds and farts of the Nebraska sessions. So life is imitating art and helping commerce here.
Ps I like Bruce, I'm not a massive fan. Nebraska is a good album, I can see and hear the Suicide (the band) on Bruce's yelps and cries, but it's hardly essential for me. Western Skies and Only the String Survive being favourite albums.
Songs, theres a lot. "Streets of Philadelphia" , "If I Should Fall Behind" and "There Goes My Miracle" which is a direct steal of the Icicle Works from the 80s The mechanics of recording Nebraska is entertaining enough but j don't need to see some dudes acting it out.

It's Never Over. Jeff Buckley 2025.
The shorth life and untimely death of Jeff Buckley death, or another in the catalogue of Jeff's surviving friends and relatives telling all to whoever is prepared to listen.
That does sound cynical, it is meant to be.
Lets get back to basics, I love Jeff Buckley, I was privileged to have seen him in 1993 (date maybe wrong), at Reading Festival. It wasn't the main stage it was the upcoming alternative stage . He was the penultimate 4th from last on the bill. Headline acts were the Tindersticks, American Music Club and Jeff Buckley . What a line up. It was the last Reading festival I ever went to and what a way to end it all. (I forgot to mention They Might Be Giants were also in that bill. All of the acts had an aching melancholy beauty, not so much TMBG.
What I'm getting at is I was a fan of Jeff, more so a massive fan of Tim Buckley, which I guess would have pissed Jeff off a bit. He is at pains throughout the film to tell us he wasn't anything like his late estranged father Tim.
So what we get from the film, is various taste makers, relatives, friends, lovers, and Jeff of course bigging up the myth of Jeff Buckley.
Jeff like's blowing his own trumpet.
This is where the films fall flat I've heard it all before. Likewise the majority of the footage is old and expertly cobbled together from other sources.
Musically it is great, but overall its pretty sad, his early accidental demise and his estrangement from both his father and at times his mother.
Notable absences are his step dad who brought him up and of course the Cocteau's Liz Fraser, who he briefly had an affair.
I still listen to his music, Grace is a wonderful album.
But I can take it or leave all the footage of his acolytes feeding at his feet.
A disappointing 6/10
I hope to see at some point Dream Brother the drama about Tim and Jeff Buckley brief and fruitless relationship, being a drama it will at least be fun.
