As a standalone movie this would get a 6 or a 7 but considering the majestic novel it could draw the guidelines from, it gets a lenient 5.

I didn't really like the casting. The only person I found fitting was captain Wentworth. Anne was extremely shy and always kept her head down, afraid to look at anyone.

This wasn't a Jane Austen role but am anxious person. The looks at the camera could have been a good idea for a different story of a different author and in a different era.

I get things have to change a bit to fit the story in 90 minutes but completely altering the best moment of the book where Anne talks about how men don't love as long as women do and he overhears it and gives her the letter, is plain stupid. There was no reason whatsoever to change this part and turn it into Anne running around the city as if the story unfolds two centuries later than it's supposed to.

Positives

• Great chemistry, we also got to see the spark that we were deprived of in Wednesday. They are really good together on screen.

• Great music, the soundtrack of this movie makes a fantastic playlist of its own that I will definitely be listening to a lot.

Negatives

• Bad script and barely any plot. Definitely not 90 minutes material.

• The coldness of Jenna's character made her look as if she couldn't act which was unfair for both her and the chemistry, since it made their first scenes absolutely dry.

• The "rebel" phase of Ortega was underwhelming and off-putting for me personally.

This romcom isn't a bad watch. But not thanks to the story. The story is a bit empty, a bit non existent. What makes this movie enjoyable is mainly the quality of the two main leads, Simone and Hero, and their great chemistry. And that's also where the problem is, because the ending comes and whilst enjoying it, you suddenly realise you barely even watched the two of them interact throughout the movie. Indeed they have about 4-5 small scenes, which they ace, and as a watcher you're basically left with crumbles of their chemistry. However I'd still recommend to romcom fans to watch this, expecting what it is, a lighthearted and fun little watch.
