I would have passed on this but ended up taking my grandson. He liked it. I would call it a CGI cartoon but it's more of a mosaic. A lot of intricate parts that fit together to give a big picture, the whole experience. Nothing of substance but an experience for the undiscriminating. The cast makes it work. As others have noted kudos to Nicholas Hoult for providing the spine that allows this soggy invertebrate to stand upright.
This was the movie that was worth the struggle to stay awake until 1:30 on a Saturday morning in 60s and 70s. Way too rough and graphic for family hour it delivered (spectacularly) on the sleaze and gore that was pretty strictly limited in those days. Another one then was Altman's Nightmare In Chicago but TBTWD/THTWD had sharper, clearer B&W photography all the better for rendering those smears of blood and zebra- striped bikinis. Herb went on to become Jason. Nothing else seems to have survived this production but the movie itself will live forever (maybe a curious oddity by the 22nd century).
