Just watched SUPERMAN (2025)
And I have to admit I was wrong. It was actually loads of fun. It took me a while to adjust to the tonal difference to the fantastic Cavill films but once realised what style it was going for it became a great watch.
Not perfect but far far better than I expected I must say.
I prefer the darker DC and Cavill films but this had some great moments and believe when people see it and go in with an open mind they'll enjoy.
It's has a far more fantastical and comic book lighted-heartedness vibe. Instantly you can spot James Gunns style throughout. The style that made Guardians of the Galaxy such a hit, just the right amount of cheese, comedy, action and drama.
Nice to not have to sit through all that origin storyline again.....we all know that, it's straight into the action. Clark is at the Daily Planet, Louis Lane knows who Superman is and are lovers. Lex is already a super-villain (and played with gusto by Hoult.) Things we all already know. So it wastes no time diving straight into it.
The only negatives were the villains felt a bit rushed wjth no eeal introductions and no backstory (unless known from comics) they are just there and we are just meant to accept they are Lex Luthor created/mutated or manipulated superpowered people.
Frank Grillo character seems like an afterthought (but may be set up for future roles).
Nathan is great as Green Lantern and always good to see him. (That hair ha ha. Just like the comic, awful ha) It's straight into the action. Giant Monsters and various other threats come and go. Aliens entities are taken out like it's a daily occurance but would be main scenes in other films. Loved one scene where Lois and Supes are chatting in their apartment with space monster battle with "Justice Gang" ("not our name").......similar to Marvels 'Thunderbolts' name gag ) in the background through the window. Very funny and a reminder you are watching a James Gunn film.
Krypto - Irritating but also some adorable comedy relief and vital to the story in many ways.
As much as I love my DC as Dark and moody as the Bat. There is also room for this I feel. It's opening up the DC Universe to a more commercial Marvel style.
Some will hate it. With Marvel it has become a little overplayed now (quantity over quality....so many throwaway films to cash in)and not sure rhey have recovered. When was the last truly great Marvel film? But it actually feels fresh to see DC characters in a slightly little lighter place. Still people die. Not totally Disney. Never thought I'd like DC in this way but maybe Gunn can save DC after all.
With Peacemaker season 2 coming soon (who cameos in this) it links up together well. Supergirl was amusing too so will see more of her later I'm sure.
So as I said earlier. I can admit when I was wrong and misjudged by trailers alone. And it's just the right amount of cheese to please with some great action.
Mr Terrific is a great character.
Look forward to another view when buy on Blu Ray.
Go in with an open mind. Realise it's a fresh take. (I loved Cavill's Superman and he is missed but after his Justice league it's chalk n Cheese style wise and it would have looked/felt odd)

Disappointing film. Especially considering who the Director is. (Tucker & Dake vs Evil, Zombieland) which were amazing.
They played it quite straight for the most part then towards the end added a couple of humorous bits, but they dodnt really fall right as felt out of the blue and odd when rest was less humourous. With such a silly and unoriginal premise to start with (a killer clown! Killer in a cornfield) he really should have played for laughs like in Tucker & Dale meets Scary Movie level silliness and it would have been a win.
It wasn't that gory either unfortunately so was lacking in that department too.
Script was really lacking and seemed rushed and inbelievable.
With a lazy tacked on gay bit to appear diverse and woke which I couldn't care less either way as only person I vaguely cared about were the two new people to the town, father and daughter. (The back story was also a tired cliche) The acting level was OK with main female lead standing out.
Shame. Really thought was going to enjoy this but feel really let down.
Please don't bother with sequel (which was left wide open for)

OK. I (like many) adore the original STREET TRASH. So when heard about this I was NOPE, travesty. Then I heard for a continuation and I thought. OK I'll give it a go.
This sequel of sorts just has none of the charm or magic that made the original so enjoyable. The fx manage to look cheaper and worse that the original back in the 80s.
The acting is unbearable and the attempts at humour were cringeworthy to say the least. The story is nonsensical. Why use Tenafly when openly shooting the homeless whenever they please anyway!? Just shoot them!?
This would be an OK watch if was just a bunch on none filmmakers friends deciding to make a fan film at the weekend for fun. Then can ignore its multitude of faults. Terrible acting. Zero empathy for any character. It's beyond dumb.
I knew it was going to be poor but nothing could have prepared me for how inept this film really was.
It is an embarrassment to all involved.
Even the 'Fried Barry' actor (from directors other and watchable film of same name Fried Barry) looked bored and didnt look as if wanted to he there.
How or why they allowed this guy to take a huge steamy dump over what is classed as adult classic and loved by many is beyond me.
Insulting in its attempt.
Avoid.
