I initially began watching this because Olivia Coleman is in it and ended up sticking with because I really liked it. Yes, it veers so far from the original book that it probably should have a different title but that, in and of itself, does not make this a bad show. The story that they do tell is very engaging and performances are very compelling. Ashley Thomas (Jaggers) is particularly notable. I found his performance absolutely riveting. It's reasonable to have certain expectations about this show based on the title but if you can set those aside and focus on the show itself, I think you'll be happy with what you are watching.
Bottom line: If you want to enjoy this show, then focus on what it actually is, not what you think it's supposed to be.

I loved Gina Rodriguez in Jane the Virgin so after seeing her in countless previews, I decided to give it a try. All I can say after two episodes is that it's fluffy and cute but not much else. The most interesting character for me is the roommate with Aspergers. I'm very interested to see what they do with that character.
The most annoying thing for me is the very premise of the show - the obituaries. Clearly, Nell is writing these after the subject is dead and buried. Celebrity obituaries are generally written before the celebrity dies, or very shortly thereafter. Not so long after that the deceased's wife is sitting in a restaurant with half a smile on her face remembering the good old days.
If she's not writing exclusively celebrity obits, then that's even worse. Those are typically written by the family and the funeral home, not a professional reporter, and they are also written before the funeral.
I have a couple more episodes on my TiVo so I'll keep watching a little longer to see if it grows on me.

I was a bit skeptical before I watched this. I thought it was going to be preachy, and cringy, and I'd get a headache from rolling my eyes too much. Turned out not to be the case at all. Don't misunderstand - this show is by no means riveting, "must-see TV", but it is a good show. The conversations between Hillary, Chelsea, and their guests are warm, intimate, and engaging. The style of the show is very relaxed and casual. It reminds me a lot of 'Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee'. Maybe that's because the topic was comedians? I don't know. I'll keep watching to find out. So far, however, so good. Give it a chance.
