Read the observer article before watching this film. So sad that nasty people often become the most successful, and it must be so painful for victims of crime to get justice when they are speaking up against a mega film and book.

This story is fiction, with some facts chucked in to add a real touch. They owned land and property in France, they have never known poverty, and I doubt the husband has the condition he says he has. Vile people covering up their crimes and making huge piles of cash in the process. Don't waste your time or money. I'll be waiting for the inevitable documentary and watch that instead.

I'd give this a solid 7/10 but as the ratings are so ridiculously low, I'm grading on the curve!

Like many movies I think this suffers from being categorised as a horror. There's some jump 'scares', one scene with v. Mild gore, and some lovely shadow work which reminded me of the way Hitchcock used shadows in a lot of his work.

This was a drama, some psychological thriller aspects, but ultimately it's a story of grief, love, and what a mother will do to protect her children. If you've suffered with mental health problems, then there's a lot you may find recognisable in the protagonist.

Great small cast, especially Danielle Deadwyler who is a master at acting, if you've not seen Station Eleven go see it (she plays Miranda).

...but awful writing and direction....and a ridiculous storyline! Worse than that was a dreadful depiction of an Autistic person that was, as an Autistic person, tough to watch.

I was so excited to watch it after seeing the cast.... I wish I hadn't bothered. It's a masterclass in tell don't show, to the point that I was convinced something I saw must've been a red herring, it was so blatant....but nope, turns out I realised something it took the characters another few scenes to realise. But then I am actually Autistic, and y'know we're all oh so special in magical ways, we're just very rude and have no ability to communicate with normals (sarcasm). AVOID!!!
