I didn't think this would be as good as it was. I am not usually an art type film person, long shots of stuff with music and no talking.
I avoided this movie for a long time. I heard that Scarlett Johansen shows her goods in it and thought... maybe. I saw it pop up on my feed and I was in a mood to watch something new. I am so glad I did.
I am also not a huge fan of horror, which is why I was surprised by this movie. It had some pretty horrifying things but not what I would consider a horror movie.
The creepy parts really stuck with me just because they were so subtle. But the director paired everything with some pretty unsettling creepy music. The acting was top notch, even though some of the actors accents were so thick I couldn't understand them but they were in an out very quickly.
Both Scar Jo and her partner (credited as the bad man) do an excellent job of conveying what is going on simply by looks. It was unsettling to see men being preyed on. It was unsettling to see certain death scenes and one in particular that you don't even see it's just announced in a news update a really subtle way to conclude a very disturbing scene.
The evolution of the main character is enthralling, the movie makes you afraid of her but by the end I wasn't sure if I felt sorry for her or not. The movie is a deep dive into the layers of humanity from the view of an alien. I can see why some people might not like this movie as it is slow, it's not very sci fi. It actually reminds me of Get out and Nope but I would say is a more mature movie compared to those.
I would be cautious about recommending this one as it is what I would classify as weird but highly entertaining while being horrifying at the same time.

I really enjoyed Netflix's DareDevil. It was interesting, I liked the characters. The action was amazing - the fight scenes felt so real and well choreographed. The CGI seemed minimal. These were all the things I liked about the older series.
It's very hard to not compare the old series to this one. I don't really care they are different networks I would expect it to be somewhat the same. I was disspointed to find out it was not. This series was so slow. It started off fast, the first 15mins was what I was thinking the show would be like, then from that point until about episode 7 it is all talking and filler.
There is no real antagonist, no real hero, lots of courtroom drama and lead up to the end of the series. You could literally skip most of episode 1, all of 2,3,4,5 and most of 6. Things kind of pick up after that but leave things hanging for season 2 which I am not sure I will watch.
The fight scenes while still really good were so few and far between as well as being very short that this really felt like it was a drama with a little bit of superhero sprinkled in. They used CGI blood in a lot of cases which just felt cheap as it usually does. There is one very disturbing scene in the last episode however that was really gratuitously over the top and came out of nowhwere. The series didn't have a ton of gore, mostly just blood but then BAM you are hit with a scene that felt very out of place.
The acting was all around excellent, but the pacing was way off on this one. There were not twists or turns you saw things coming a mile away as far as the plot goes even though I think they thought they were being clever by making it seem like some characters were going one way when they ended up going the other but it was so obvious you could see it coming from a mile away.
Considering how much content is out there to watch I wouldn't bother with this one or like I said watch episode 1, 6,7,8,9 and save some time even with that I am not sure I would recommend this to anyone.

I watched a couple of youtube reviews on this movie and decided against it. Then a family member recommended it and I put it off but eventually one night decided to give it a shot and I was pleasantly surprised.
Is it an oscar worthy movie with zero problems and nothing but perfection no, but it is entertaining and that is all I ask these days of movies like this. Just entertain me for an hour and a half.
Having said that it could have used a little more chopping down. A fun action movie needs to be fast paced wich is the problem with almost all movies these days they think long running time is better, it's lazier for sure, but not better.
The premise, in the beginning anyway, seems a little stupid. At least for me I did find myself struggling to suspend disbelief that is until a bit of dialogue explaining why, which I wish was somehow revealed sooner as to not take me out of the moment so much.
Top notch acting all around, a bit sluggish in places, good visuals. Scaryish without being over the top gory. A little CGI heavy made it seem a little cheesy in spots but otherwise a decent enough romantic style action/horror. Would at least recommend for anyone looking just to see monsters get whats coming to them.
