I may be biased but I've read and loved the books. I'm actually rereading (listening actually) them as I'm watching.
I'm glad they're sticking pretty close to the books. Really close compared to some of the atrocities I've watch in comarison (WoT, Halo, etc) where the writers can't seem to actually do a live version of the book or game but just use the IP to spew out whatever agenda they have running on a loop in their brain.
The production quality is top notch. And the acting is OK. I think you can tell who read the books and who didn't. The guy playing murderbot is pretty good. I think the awkwardness is a little overplayed but I may be wrong. I think in the books murderbot was more annoyed than uncomfortable. It's one of the reasons I'm reviewiing the books again.
The main issue is the episodes are too short. To be fair the books were really short too. Almost long short stories rather than novellas. For a TV show like this, the episodes need to be longer. This is not a sitcom you laugh at for 25 minutes and then move on. I'm afraid it'll kill the show. It's like going to a restaurant for the best burger in town and there 3 inches across. You just don't get enough, so you end up eating elsewhere.
The fun of the books was you get this almost unstoppab;e robot, who no longer has any limits and chooses to help a bunch of hippie, we are the world, make love not war, softies and in doing so they change his view of humanity and himself and what he wants to be. In the books, IIRC, he even measures his later decisions on what these people would think of his actions.
Finally, my hope is that they make longer episodes and the actors get a chance to really become, settle into and understand their characters. I hope apple will give them the chance. Longer episodes, a little bit more of murderbots sardonic humor, and a really good screen adaptation and this could be really good.

I really like this movie. The acting was very good. The story went just the way I like it.
I'm not sure what to call this, action-comedy? Silly action romantic comedy? It was just fun. The writing and acting just makes you like who you're supposed to like and dislike who you're supposed to dislike. And at the end of the movie, everybody gets what you think they deserve. Lots of violence but the movie takes it so lightly you barely notice.
Watch this movie. Don't take it too seriously. Relax and have some fun. It kinda has the same feel as Gross Pointe Blank from way back but a little more quirky.

I couldnt even get thru this movie. I only stayed for Bill. I kept hoping something would develop or get interesting but that never happened.
I read some of the other reviews and saw some comments about the writer Wes. They talked about like he was some great talent or visionary.
Maybe i just dont get it. Im the guy that doesnt like wil ferrel movies or the office. I just dont find them funny.
I looked thru his list if movies and I saw few i recognized and didnt think mych if any if those.
Ive seen other movies in this cinematic style. Sone ive enjoyed. Some nit so much but thus movie was quite a bit of a slog for me.
