I am surprised at the low rating, I hope people will start appreciating it more. Maybe one needs to have lived through the 90-ies in Estonia to appreciate it fully.
I would call it an allegorical social satire with a Lynchian twist. I laughed out loud quite a few times, and to some sequences I was mentally applauding.
I totally loved the characters, sometimes stereotypical, sometimes comically surreal, and how their stories are presented one by one, leaving one wonder till the end how exactly they will be connected.
It's not just a comedy, there are also darker moments in the movie, but wrapped into the unserious comical narrative.
I also loved the deliberately silly looking aliens, I am happy that the director has chosen not to make them CGI. It definitely adds to the absurdity of the scenes.

I saw it first in 1997 in the cinema, and since then numerous times at home. Till now no other movie could beat it. Now, due to Lynch's recent departure, there is a retrospective of his movies in our cinema, and today I saw Lost Highway again, for the manyeth time, but on the big screen. I know the movie by heart, but on the big screen and with the cinema sound it aquires the third dimension. After almost 30 years it is still the most beautiful movie for me.
A piece of advice for those who have watched it only on the home TV or on the PC (I hope nobody watches it on the phone! :D) - find a way to watch it on big screen.

I've been following the Birchpunk project for several years and found their production amazingly good. They started as an independent low-budget project without any funding whatsoever and have made several videos which they uploaded on Youtube for free, and immediately received the highest ratings. Top quality video, witty and funny script, good acting - just what a good movie should be about.
Then the war in Ukraine happened and they fell silent for a couple of years. There were rumours that they have signed a contract with Kinopoisk (Russian movie portal) for production of a full series. I initially had big doubts of the outcome, but when I saw the result, I was almost applauding. They have managed to create a subtle, intelligent and funny satire to the current events, so subtle that you really need to know the context to get it. But the ones who know it are rewarded twice.
