If you've seen the trailer for Zach Cregger's "Weapons", then you probably know that it involves the mysterious disappearance of several children one night. But as with Cregger's previous outing, "Barbarian", it turns out that the basic premise is the jumping-off point for a look at a much more horrifying topic (and as before, multiple people are windows into the story). I won't spoil it beyond that, but let's just say that you'll feel lucky this is a fictional story; if even one of the things from this movie happened to you in real life, you'd probably get traumatized forever.

All in all, one impressive piece of work. Julia Garner, Josh Brolin, Alden Ehrenreich and Amy Madigan all put on great performances. I look forward to Cregger's next movie.

Yeah, just imagine if George Harrison had known that a song from his first solo album would appear in this sort of movie. I wonder what his response would've been.

Jeremy Irons has spent much of his career playing Mr. Tortured, and that's just what he does in Henry Bromell's "Last Call", portraying F. Scott Fitzgerald during the last year of the author's life. I don't know much about Fitzgerald, so I have no choice but to take the movie at its word, as it shows the man destroying himself through his drinking.

If you only know Neve Campbell from the Scream franchise, then you'll be pleasantly surprised at her no-nonsense performance as Fitzgerald's last secretary, helping him write his swan song. It looks like it wasn't the most enjoyable position. Despite Sissy Spacek's prominent billing as FSG's institutionalized wife Zelda, she only appears sporadically; I consider Sissy Spacek one of the most underappreciated actresses of all.

Anyway, not a masterpiece, but worth seeing. I should admit that I'll probably never read any of Fitzgerald's works.

The only feature film directed by Leslie Harris focuses on a teenage black girl in Brooklyn who has to face an unpleasant reality during her final year of high school. "Just Another Girl on the I. R. T." manages to be both funny and serious, with sharp dialogue and relatable characters. It's one of the few coming-of-age stories to focus on a girl. I'd wager that the plot may have actually happened to a few people in real life (if not exactly as the movie portrays). A fine example of 1990s arthouse cinema; the credits even define it as a movie that Hollywood dared not make. All in all, I wish that there were more like this.

Paul Robeson School of Business? That sounds like the opposite of what Robeson was about.
