I came across this film and thought wow that sounds interesting. You go in thinking you know what you're going to see based on the outline - at least the platform I was on had an outline and I've tried to add one here but we'll see - but this film proves you wrong. And not right away, it takes its time to twist around until the final surprise. In between it keeps you guessing - what's going to happen, what's he going to do, and then right when you think he's going to prove that he's one thing he doesn't and then you're like what the heck. I don't think of myself as an indie fan necessarily, but this is definitely a film worth seeing. I could imagine it being done by Hollywood with some big name actors but I don't think they could have done a better job. Still it wouldn't surprise me at all if somebody picks this up and tries to do it in a bigger way to reach a larger audience. This is one of those films that just doesn't get enough attention even though it deserves to. There is some blood and gore but overall it's not a gory movie, it's a kind of depraved psychological thriller with some very interesting personalities.

I'm going to be honest, these are academy award-winning actors but the film is really just sappy and slow with a poor timeline setup. None of the actors sell their part. One day she's barely moving the bag and pays more attention to people in the room and next thing you know she's got Rocky Balboa's right hook and all they did was went to coffee in between. Doesn't make any sense. There's almost no action and when they do get into the ring it's ridiculous setups. I remember watching this film a long time ago and not sure why I tried again now - just the passage of time makes you wonder if somehow you miss something. I had forgotten about the big dramatic ending, which could have been very provocative and meaningful if she had just simply sold the part better. It's interesting to hear Morgan Freeman narrating the film all the way through but it really doesn't add anything even though it may be the most interesting touch that the film has to offer. Maggie is bossy and doesn't listen but we're supposed to believe that this renowned trainer who's Hay Day is long in the past is going to put up with her because he misses his daughter. Not to mention with all that pull no punches personality she still is a doormat for her narcissistic mother . For such a profound ending, the lengthy run time just doesn't bring it all home to reach this level of emotion and understanding for the audience. Yes I'm well aware that I speak for a few because I can see all the 10 star reviews who think that Clint Eastwood can do no wrong. Lucky for the producers that they got it right for those shallow individuals who rave about this very serious and complicated issue by delivering it in such a boring predictable package.

I think alot if Neeson fans are grumbling because they think this series somehow undermines Liam's work. I don't see why it would. But it is indeed intended to be a prequel, although the write-up neglects to mention that. I found this series to be very engaging, easy to follow, well-paced and relatively well-acted. Really, the only character I didn't think sold the part was Jennifer Beals. She was ok but I'm just not a fan. Her roles are all pretty flat. I also thought it was confusing to have 3 regular characters that look so similar you have to track them a bit to realize they're different people - long dark hair, thin face, lack of personality, same make-up artist.

For the most part, the series is very bipartisan other than the unusually heavy presence of women in top positions. I'm one, btw, but it's a bit carried away here, like in SWAT.

I've actually binged this series all day today, now on S1E7, and I don't binge just anything.

Some of the situations and bad guys get a little stale and I think it's super weird for Bryan to be dating his sisters bf. There's plenty of plot holes and "magical" moments (it couldn't happen in real life). But still enjoying it, so far. It's the kind of show i would have liked to have known about sooner but the title made me think it was another Neeson film and I've seen those.
