I like the movie all in all, but about 12 hours is a bit too much but i like it, there are scenes where you are really think''f*** this is what I call real action and rediculaty''(excuse me my english but I could write better things when I where american but I'm russian-german and learned english only 5 years long) I give the movie a 8 of 10, because 10 would I give movies which are really really special good, like zwezda(2002),bumer(2003),loshadi w okeane(1989),bespredel(1989),agenty kgb tozhe wlyublyajutsa(1991), pro biznesmena fomu(1993)or kammyshovyj raj(1989).

I seen this movie about 10 times, its always damn nice 2 see it. Its the favourite movie of my cousin and in the way 4 people who likes seeing war movies its a pure god's gift 4 them, cause with this movie the russians could shows the world that there are always even exist good regiseurs and actors who can make such a hearttouching and interesting good movie. This movie has a typical russian movie-end like movies in the perestroika time(1986-1991).Because typical is the tragic end without happy end. Other russian movies like avaria-doch menta(1989), pomiluj i prosti(1988), katala(1989), kamyshovyj raj(1989), igla(1988)....have such a typical end, too.But it means not that the movie is bad, the movies are still good movies.

The movie is not bad, its a good movie which I give 7 points of 10. I must say that the movie is not from 1988, its from 1987. It was the last film of anatolij papanov, while the recording of this movie he died.Papanov is getting big in movie-business since the movie briljantnaja ruka(1969), he played there a criminal man with a special humor personality, It will even nowadays make a parody of his charakter by people like the music group'Krasnaya Plesen'. But 'holodnoje leto 53-go' shows that in the early days it was sometimes so that the real criminals, which killed and stealed people get out and people who were not criminals and made not much wrong had to working as a prisoner.
