This is such a heartwarming little film set immediately after Bambi's mom died in the original film. The stern faced Great Prince must adjust his routines and day to care for Bambi until spring comes and he can find a doe to raise Bambi. The animation is beautiful and captures how awkward this transition is to both father and son. It's beautiful to see their relationship strengthen throughout the film. I liked the way the film makers showed the grief the Great Prince felt for the loss of Bambi's mother and Bambi's own grief. I enjoyed Flower's role and Thumper's antics. He and his sisters were well written to act like children without being obnoxious. There's moments of real humor in this movie as well and two nicely placed songs. Its a bright movie - I enjoy it.
This is a sweet movie for the kids about belonging and finding ones place in the world and in a family. Tramp and Scamp's father-son relationship is a big part of the film and I thought it was well done. Both showing growth by the end. Angel was a fun addition - she's got the street tough energy without being mean. I love that the Tramp got to have a few nice moments showing up the other street dogs and he also had great moments of wisdom. I wish Lady could have had a bit more of a role but since it was such a short film they still gave her good screen time for boosting morale. Scamp's three sisters are annoying but they are obviously written to entertain little kids and don't get much screen time anyways. There are a few fun musical numbers and the ending you would expect. Not on the same caliber as the original obviously but it's a sweet film that does justice to the original characters and works with good themes.
This is my favorite film adaptation of Robin Hood! Kevin Costner portrays the perfect charismatic leader who's self assured and passionate. Morgan Freeman embodies Azeem and he's a great man to keep Robin Hood from getting too cocky because he's equally good at fighting - he keeps him humble. Friar Tuck is perfect - a great character of faith with a dedication to beer. The Littles are such a fun family and the Will Scarlet angst is chefs kiss. Of course, Alan Rickman is iconic as the dastardly Sheriff of Nottingham. Marian and Sarah are not just damsels in distress and Marian and Robin Hood have great chemistry. The extended cut is worth the extra time. It's such a fun movie!
