Pretty amazing that Netflix is dropping this level quality film onto their service now, who would've thought this 10 years ago. Chris Pratt and Millie are A list actors with the Russo Brothers and a high concept sci-fi film with a massive budget pretty impressive win for their studio. Loved the 80s town I loved the soundtrack, the cast, the score though at times a bit overdone. I thought the storytelling was solid. It could've used that edit. There was a couple scenes that were unnecessary and extended to a point where it was filler. Very enjoyable, family film high concept, kind of reminded me of ET meets minority report. Spielberg is all over this thing. It was basically an ode to Spielberg, a a bit lighter hearted version of AI. If I had the ability to give it a rating, it would be a 7.6 I rounded up because of the IMDb app. I think some of the reviewers are a little too harsh. This is good fun for the whole family. We haven't had something like that in a while that wasn't just completely crammed with agenda..
The only good thing I could say about this movie is thank God I didn't pay for it. The Will Ferrell formula has been declined for years, but this was absolute collapse moment. The plot is ridiculous and not even rational on any level. The writing is atrocious. They just try to get by with Will Ferrell's charm and facial expressions and his stick he's been doing for 25 years, it's tired, old and predictable. Reese Witherspoon looks good, but this was a poorly written character. She's almost exactly playing the same character form "the morning show", totally unlikable. Her performance is just a resounding, angry, modern city slicker successful Karen. But probably the worst element of this whole disaster is the rest of the cast. The rest of the cast would've had a hard time making a toothpaste commercial in the 80s. Nobody would hire these talentless hacks. If this movie was forced to go to the theaters, it would actually benefit Hollywood because it would quicken the demise because this film wouldn't have made it two weeks in the theaters. These producers put this crap out on streaming and because they know that there's already signed contract. They don't put a lot of effort into the filmmaking and storytelling process. So these actors continue to get paid and the studios think they're still turning out content, but it's total garbage it needs to stop. Will Ferrell needs to be put into a timeout until he can be on a project that's quality..... pathetic.
Michael Douglas can't save this show. There's not a single character other than the Benjamin Franklin character that's even mildly interesting. The plotting is very methodical and boring character development, worthy of any interest. I was wondering how they were going to make a series out of this moment of history and in my opinion, it just doesn't work. Maybe it gets better later, but the first episode where all of the real meaningful set up was happening was just OK for me. The sad and costume design are wonderful and the locations are spectacular, but I could look in a picture book of the experience and some serious time. I think Apple plus needs to step up their game very hit or miss series.
