I mean... what? I couldn't even finish it. Way too many tropes and trying to hard to be funny when it wasn't. Someone clearly was trying to model sci fi after Baz Lurman or something. Too many obvious nods to other sci fi that they were actual copies: the fifth element opera singer (song/singer not good), the cell's facial chain mail, dune shields, costumes, characters that mimic too much similar to guardians of the galaxy... I don't know why these hugely talented actors did this movie- was the script amazing before editing? Was it a Chinese studio production that paid them insane amounts of money (you know those Chinese Hollywood fake blockbusters). I'm baffled more than disturbed. It's like a really expensive high production b movie. Don't get me started on the shaky camera work and the narration that sounds like the beginning of a universal studios ride where the seats are too small.

While the historical drama is about an event I am surprised no one has ever made a decent film about yet (until now), there were some moments that broke attention from the great plot. Some of these were some spots of out of place poetic monologues when there weren't any others in the show, some brief moments of cringy overacting, but what pulled me out of the story significantly was the distracting soundtrack of the old patriotic children's song "This land is your land". While I appreciate the artistic intention, I was cringing singing along to the song in my head while watching people die slowly and kissing, et. Al. Filing was fantastic, beautiful scenery (I used to live in the location so it was very nostalgic). I light of the Mormon church's statements, as a former Mormon, I can say they're bull. It's a historical fiction based on a true event. Even the salt lake tribune spoke about the true event. The church is only bothered because they have yet to take ownership and formally apologize for the atrocities their leaders did in the area. Mormons are not bad. But just like Christianity and American history, all started in brutal uncivilized ways. Everyone has apologized for their history. It's time for them now too.
