That was an embarrassing load of rubbish. Script and dialog my kids could have written. Reacher is big, a fact that is overly relied upon, yet he walks like he's done something in his pants. It is one of those series where you get the beers in for a laugh at how bad it is, then don't bother watching the rest. Every problem is resolved by someone with a gun, big deal - I think I'd watched the undubbed version of The Raid too recently, which makes all the BS macho film/series look bad, but this series was premiere league BS, like watching the love child of Steven Segal and Magnum PI.
Don't say I didn't warn you :)
Don't say I didn't warn you :)
Why?
Really engaging story that pulls you along and which feels like it offers something different than the usual tropes. Not really a film that relies on jump scares, though there are a few, but more a piece of great story telling, which dares to step away from the usual and tells the story through action without being an action film, all the more amazing considering the reveal is quite early on.
A fabulous retro feel, where the aliens almost stepped out of the pages of a 50's comic while avoiding the overcooked Marvel look.
The sound track is amazing - I'm surprised no one has mentioned this.
A great third act with very clever ending.
A wonderful soulful, sole performance from the actor, playing a believable and vulnerable character with no one to turn to..
Don't watch it on a tablet, it's one way to ruin a good film - I think the haters must have watched it on their phone :)
Probably my favourite film of '23.

....and having watched the Chinese series I thought this series was a good watch. Different maybe, but enjoyable.
I can see they (Netflix) have made an effort to get away from the usual sci-fi trope of casting models as key characters, though could still do better, both Liam and Benedict are great characters.
Prior poor reviews seem to be stuck in one of two camps, either the anally retentive who complain the script doesn't stick to the Chinese book and characters or those who similarly moan about the science. It's called science fiction for a reason - at least it's not crappy Marvel nonsense.
Sit back, chill out and enjoy.
Just heard Netflix are going to can it after the 2nd series. It was the last decent program on Netflix, that's now become so polluted with low budget reality shows about dysfunctional wannabes selling houses or getting off with people they haven't seen. BORING. Time to end my subscription.
