I like argentinian movies - they have that nice vibe to them from how they film characters to the locations to the dynamics of the human factor. Unfortunately this is a netflix production and is not all that argentinian. There are still certain mainstays they stay true to here, but overall it feels dry.
This is apparently based on a comic from the 1950s that lasted 2 years. And this is also a problem because we know how comic based movies go... And this one is so old but adapted to take place in today's world. Niche old comic turned into series while not staying true to the original material. Yep here we are again, classic entrapment of print to tv. That's why this show does not feel right throughout the entire first season.
It is slow paced to the point where nothing happens yet a lot happens, but you are not shown or told about it. This creates that so common sensation that somebody is skipping over the source material for the sake of not revealing it all and stretching the plot. In terms of plots, there are several subplots that are horribly done. The entire Clara quest was an abomination. And many more im not going to list, but just to say that everything simply happens behind the scenes, magically. Then is introduced after the fact on screen at random and everybody just rolls on like it's normal. As a viewer you are part of that everybody and expected to as well, just roll with it. Ugh.
I've seen that before too many times and i have knocked productions for it and will do the same here. Simply this series fell for the trap of trying to be too smart for its own good by creating fake mysteries and obfuscating elements that should have been filmed and part of the scenes, instead of filming random junk to fill time.
The cast is likable; it is old and has that connection to your parents. Characters i still do not attach to nor care for; none of them 6 episodes later matter to me... which is a problem. For all the time wasted here, they didn't give us the backstory of a single one. At this point i'm writing them all off. They are just random names and cannon fodder.
The CIG is not good. On it's own it is fine but you can always tell where it comes and goes, and you can tell how it is superimposed onto live shots. Basically not a single scene is done well. You can always tell whats fake and there are many many MANY issues with blending - wheels interacting with terrain, effects being literally a layer somebody dropped over the final cut... repeatedly. They either had no money or did not care. Either way, C- grade CIG, not acceptable in 2025.
Anybody rating this a 10 is delusional and only doing this because of nationalism. I have to say this having gone over most of the reviews. These series needs to be compacted and focused on something other than your parents running around and disappearing and then appearing at random left and right. As it is, that is literally what is taking place here and it is disappointing.
I am really hoping that in S2 they can do better because if they put out another season like this one, this show is done.
Fix or cancel time. The Eternaut only has 2 paths from here.
6\10 can keep you engaged but there are so many things wrong on every corner...

Welcome to BRICK. BRICK is not about bricks; in fact there are no bricks here. This movie should have been named anything else such as tiles, boulders, murals, stones, plaster, metal, magnets, legos. Literally anything but brick. Reminds me of INFINITY POOL in which there was no pool. This fun detail out of the way, the tone is already set.
The movie goes down the list of diversity quotas without shame. Include this, include that. You are gay, so are you, everybody is gay, and you are not gay, you are old, you are a psychopath, also gay. No shame no lead in just getting it out of the way so they can get that quota filled in. It is done in such a bad way it just annoys the viewer.
This movie could have been an escape room movie, a puzzle movie.... an adventure movie.. a sci fi movie. At times it tried to be all of those but failed at being any. It just became low effort drama with a very washed up mystery.
The props are bad. I can remember one other time where a gun used on screen was more rubbery than the one here. And speaking of props.. why is this MA rated.. there is no intimacy, no gore, no real violence... who rated this MA or is it just another cheap attempt to mislead the viewer and sell some shock appeal that isn't there. Very strange. This is PG13 all the way.
The positives... characters with some exceptions are decent enough. Believable enough. Acting is acceptable..C+ grade.. fits with the script. The ending though while being anticlimatic is actually contrary to what you would expect from such a movie. I can appreciate how it ended and during the movie itself, they literally tell how it might end. They spell out the possible outcomes in some conversations. And it ends exactly like one of them. I liked that touch. Deep irony here and you can go back and remember which character was right all along, making the entire movie plot, pointless. Unfortunately too little, too late.
5\10 it tried but could not deliver more than meh.

This was a brilliant movie. It is one of those where you cannot find faults because everything is so well done.
The setting is great, decor is authentic, wardrobe fits. Characters are amazing, deep and unique and you feel with each one. Acting is superb and scenes flow smoothly and coherently. The plot is complete and meaningful with no open ends.
Events are well done and meaningful and most importantly realistic; everything feels right and that it belongs. I do not want to call this quintessential 70s massachussets boarding school movie because I do not think this was the point here, it wasn't the goal of the movie to be such, it just had that as the setting. But i was told by people of this vintage that it is actually very accurate regardless. That is good to know and realism is always good.
The ending... That is worth mentioning. I am not happy with how it ended...I expected or rather hoped for a different ending because i became attached to the characters and wanted something better at the end. The movie has several scenes that send you on that belief that thing will go a certain way, but they do not. To me it is a sad ending because it was not the one i wanted. When a movie gets you involved enough that you actually care about the characters that to me is one of the hardest things a writer and director can achieve. And here they have done it.
9\10 the choices we make, are sometimes not for ourselves but they show who we are.
