Troy was an excellent movie, with a stirring score that put me in the right frame of mind for the movie in an instant. James Horner is brilliant and doesn't disappoint here. I cannot wait to buy the soundtrack. For the first half of the movie, I was in hysterical laughter. The script they wrote! The lines, the melodrama, the incredible farse on real emotion! However, when people started dying inevitably, since it is a war film, I started crying. I thought that Brad Pitt's acting was better than expected, and the talent I was most impressed with actually was that of Eric Bana, playing Hector, and Rose Byrnes, playing Brisaeus. I was surprised because I had not heard of either of them but they definitely made the movie as far as acting goes.
This movie was very inspirational to me and was very hopeful. I think that Michael Caine and Tobey Maguire did a fabulous job and some of the scenes were so moving that I was almost in tears just because of the emotion. Definitely not cheesy, I respect that it raises important issues, makes you consider your values. It made me think again about everything I've always believed, and challenged me to think beyond the obvious.
Although I haven't read the book, clearly this is an original story by John Irving, and more sentimental than I would expect from him.
Note: Not appropriate for children under 14, many friends of mine have said it should have been rated R.

I love this movie! I love the puns on Romeo and Juliet, I love the distinctive characters and I love the humor. I laugh every time. Most people say this movie has lots of gratuitous sex...we're talking Shakespeare, I don't think he would consider it gratuitous. See at all costs. But probably no children under 12 though, they might be confused and find it to be disturbing.
