In stark contrast to a style forward persona in Empuraan, comes a movie, raw, simple, funny, poignant, all shades of grey all rolled into one and that too before the highs and lows of Empuraan had a moment to catch breath!
No flashy interviews, no plot revealing teaser trailers and no sneak peak reviews of the trailer. Just a weekend release with a promise by the Director that it would be a tribute to his favorite Lalettan, every frame justified and a treat to watch.
And so it came to being, already showing indications of strong word of mouth stellar reviews. My brother called me urging me to watch it in theatre. I thought he was just pulling my legs knowing I am a big time Mammooka fan (though I whole heartedly watch every Lalettan movie and acknowledge the fine actor that he is).
And now I cannot wait to tell my tribe not to miss this treat on big screens. Brilliant ensemble performances quietly and fiercely supporting the protagonist and helping the movie soar. I was excited to see Arjun Asokan show up and a little heartbroken that he did not have a more relevant role.
That apart, nothing to be written without giving away the plot. A great watch, and truly glad that Lalettan had this opportunity knock his doors and he did everything in his power to shower his audience with his nuanced, powerful performance. An even bigger treat was to watch him back with Shobana, both very much at ease with one another in this compelling movie.

I went in with a very conflicted mind, not a fan of the overdose of the promotions ever since Bollywood discovered Malayalam cinema and went bonkers, praising everyone and everything.
But it is a cinema done in a magnitude worthy of the promotion spree.
Hats off to Prithviraj for pulling off a technically nuanced and fine movie.
Mohanlal, Manju and Tovino are all actors who have proved their mettle and justify the characters.
Suraj's character was shortchanged and his caliber deserves a more grand role.
The script was a little simplistic but did stitch up a storyline. The premise set up for the next movie was certainly fantastic.
Again, this is Prithviraj's vision and he has envisioned a grand scale drama. And kudos to him for an execution well done.
