The first season is so underwhelming. The designs and esthetics aren't even close to good, good enough for its own show. I hope the following seasons are better.

The major issues with the esthetic is how the designer thinks too highly of her capabilities. I can tell she has no formal training and no natural gifts of a designer eye because whewww. Also, I can appreciate the profession of architects. There is a reason they are needed because most people have no idea how to properly layout a space. This couple has no idea how to properly utilize space. The one room where this is critically needed is in a bathroom. All of their designs so far in season 1. The sink, toilet and tub are all lined up on the same wall. This ginormous empty space everywhere else in the bathroom.

Illogical choices for kitchen layout and options. One kitchen had zero upper cabinets, which is fine if there is lots of bottom cabinets or a pantry. In this case, there was neither. And you'd think, well maybe they didn't have the space, but this wasn't the case because they specifically had the space in the original kitchen but chose to move the kitchen and then handicap it with limited storage space.

Oh and that hideous faux brick floor project was peek cringe.

I think this couple's designs are not worthy to carry an entire show.

The show is decent and I enjoy the synergy between Ben and Erin as a couple and designers/builders. All of the petty complaints about Erin's personal fashion or her husband's arm placement is absolutely ridiculous. Seriously, are 12 year olds leaving reviews on HGTV shows now?

While Erin's interior decor style isn't my cup of tea, I can still enjoy the level of taste and skill in her work. But my biggest issue with the show is that it's too repetitive. She hits her specific style sense on the nose each and every time, to the point that the reveals all look the same. Now granted, I've only binged watch season 1 so far.

My other critic is that some of the reveals look like a new version of dated. I understand that it looks better than what the original home and decor, but for tens of thousands and sometimes $100k worth of renovations and interior design, I am expecting it to at least look new and modern. But I guess this is also her particular esthetic. For me, it takes down the excitement of the reveal by a lot as a result.

I enjoy these types of shows more when the hosts are trained and experienced across varied styles to keep episodes interesting. The eclectic country look gets old and tired very quick. I hope the remaining 7 seasons show progression in her creativity and versatility.

I'm sure this is likely a good movie if you understand the native language. However, I do not so I can either read subtitles, which is annoying to do since it distracts from what is going on in the scene. But why oh, why did I turn on the English voice over?!?! Who in their right mind thought that ONE person not only is the voice for every character, including women characters, but then the voice narrates the entire actions and what's going on when there isn't dialogue. I'm so annoyed by this. Why invest in such a decent looking series when paid some AI bot to read the script and narrations. Invest in real voice actors to dub the series for God's sake! If HBO Max wast free for me, I'd cancel it just to prove a point on how ridiculous this is. Lol.
